The Gardens are fantastic. Lots of places to sit and read or relax by the pool perhaps. There are one or two staff members who are really friendly and trying to make up for all the problems caused by the other staff who are not friendly and not honest and do not do what they say they will. Aaron and Carlos and Asensio were the stand-outs for me. Great at their jobs. Kind. Honest. They each spoke Spanish and at least some English.
The restaurant is in an underground space where the million LED lights flash intermittently at different times from each other. The breakfast is mostly cakes and fruit with a few other things. You have to pay extra for an espresso. The dinner menu is a bit strange, some cheesy burgers and not much that I thought looked good and no changes are allowed. I had the feeling that several items were pre-made and then heated up in the microwave. The restaurant staff are unbelievably unfriendly bordering on rude. The airconditioners are set to 16degrees and it is absolutely unhealthy and freezing in there, as well as being unpleasant due to the flashing lights, the wicker placemats and often I was given a glass that was not actually clean. There was a receptionist, Sol, who appears all smiles and polite but actually does not do what she says she will do. She was half-way through booking a car for me for the next day and just left without finishing it or messaging me to let me know. I am allergic to the laundry detergent they use so I asked - at my expense- to wash the sheets in my powder, and then not to change the sheets. Sol Promised to let the Housekeeping know, but failed. Sol gives only partial addresses to the taxis so they get lost and drive you around town with no air con at 44degrees and when you come back or ask her about any of this she either denies it or says "oh". no responsibility taken for her incredibly callous and untruthful, incompetent approach to doing her job. Still to this day, two weeks later, the hotel has not processed my $500USD refund for the downgrade in the room, or provided an itemised invoice for the full charges, which I asked for at check out since one of the charges was wrong. Sol of course said yes she would print it but did not and she called Viviana but no refund was made an no attempt to make this situation legal. I don't know what to do about it except call the police.

Outstanding staff, friendly environment, and a very non-resorty feel thankfully! Breakfast included was decent, but lunch/dinner from the restaurant was absolutely delish! Rooms were comfortable and spotless. Parking secure, within the premise (Asunscion is as safe as it gets for walking). Clay court tennis was a ball (they lend you rackets). Pool was refreshing and perfect size for laps. Checking in and the desk were prioritized & staff beyond helpful to even find us a venue to watch the Super Bowl in Espaneol : )
Nothing but good things to say … except …
Please purchase two new canisters of tennis balls ? And keep up what you’re doing and pay your staff accordingly, they are fantastic from the hotel to restaurant!

An oasis in Asunción!
Be aware that the single rooms and bathrooms are quite diminutive. They provide all necessities, but tiny. The saving grace - exquisite and lush surroundings.

The location was excellent. It is in a safe walking area and you can get to the center of the city in 10 minutes by car or bus or 30 minutes on foot. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely beautiful. There is a lovely swimming pool and tennis court. It is worth taking time to enjoy the property as well as the historic city.
It would have been nice if the hotel offered historic tours of the property because there seems to be so much history there.

I would fly to Paraguay again just to stay here. It truly is an oasis in the middle of a sometimes run-down city. The staff are professional, kind, fluent in English. The room had a charm that fit me perfectly. This is the first hotel in Paraguay and still looks new but holds the kind of history I love. The gardens are absolutely amazing. The birds singing outside my window, the peaceful trees. Pool is lovely, the whole property feels like a true getaway. I stayed in 7 five-star hotels on in South America on this trip - and Gran Hotel del Paraguay was my favorite. I wish I'd had time to check out the National Library full of amazing records and history right next door. Uber got me everywhere I wanted to go in the city easily.

Excellent service, very accommodating. Everything was clean and comfortable.
A brief welcome summary of the amenities and services at the time of check in would be helpful. We had to search and ask around for the pool. The restaurant and bar different services were a bit confusing but we were then assisted by the staff as to how it all worked. There really is not much to dislike about the place only things that could be better. Overall it was a great experience.
