In an inner courtyard of an 18th-century mansion, this eco-hotel is located within the walls of St. Jorge's Castle. It features rooms with free Wi-Fi in the historic Alfama neighborhood. This is an absolute gem, right next to the castle San Jorge. It’s very quiet and peaceful . It used to be the royal kitchens and the building kept traces of that. The rooms are charming and feel so luxurious . There are lovely attentions like the afternoon buffet with tea coffee cakes , the port in the bedroom. The breakfast buffet is catering for all tastes and is available until 12pm which is so nice. But best of all is the kindness of all the staff, and their willingness to help. Thank you Henri.

The hotel was amazing. From the pickup at the airport to arranging a taxi for us when we left and everything in-between. It is located opposite the castle, away from the crowds. We were welcomed like family, the staff were always friendly and helpful. The place was spotless.
Maybe the bathroom could use an update, but now I'm being picky. It was clean, the shower worked great, it had everything we needed.

Loved everything about this hotel. We felt like being guests in a private house and super relaxed. The location was special to us and we staying the property just to relax. Would come back!

Fantastic location, peacocks were beautiful and regular visitors, cool plunge pool was excellent after hot days exploring, breakfast was exceptional. Very peaceful and comfortable beds.

Location, in historic area very close to castle. Transport links into town e.g. tram/bus good, required just a short walk. Room, although facing onto street, was very quiet. Room facilities and quality excellent. Helpful staff. Peacocks were great, did not disturb me in the room.
Complimentary coffee available in lounge, but freshly brewed would have been better e.g. bean to cup machine. But just a minor issue.

They place is so cute and well thought out. They really go to the effort to attend to the details. Lovely staff.
While it is near the castle, you have to remember that castles are on the top of the hill. I'm not sure how older travelers get in and out of this place. It is a workout every time you leave.

The location was nice, in a tourist area and close to the castle. The staff were helpful.
the walls between the rooms were very thin. We could hear the neighbor snoring, which disturbed our sleep. The place was quite noisy, especially because of the peacocks nearby, so I would not recommend this hotel if you are a light sleeper.

What a delightful surprise - we had no idea Solar would turn out to be the best hotel of 25 hotels in our recent tour of Europe. From the superb location - highest in Lisbon, to exceptional staff, complimentary champagne and peacocks - we are still telling stories about this heritage hotel.
Leaving Solar - we could stay forever!
