Located in a refurbished, late 19th century building in the quaint Alfama district, Memmo Alfama – Design Hotel offers a 24-hour reception. It features a wine bar, an outdoor pool and Tagus River views. Rooms at Memmo Alfama have a design décor and include the latest equipment, as an iPod docking station and a LED flat-screen TV. Beds include Egyptian linen and 6 pillows. The bathroom comes with 100% cotton towels and free toiletries. A breakfast buffet is served daily in this design hotel, and there is a 24-hour honesty refrigerator with snacks and drinks. The wine bar on the 1st floor offers a perfect setting to enjoy a Portuguese wine and light meals while listening to Portuguese music and overlooking Tagus River. The staff were amazing. Thiago at the front desk was helpful recommending sights to see, Trolley 28 "tour", local restaurants (not tourist food), and he even broke our large Euro bills for tipping money. The morning breakfast is outstanding. Very good quality meats and cheeses and delicious cooked egg dishes. The views from the pool and terrace area amazing. You can even see your cruise ship arrive. The location is in a great area (Alfama) and is safe with many hidden local restaurants to visit. And if you get the chance to attend the Memmo hotel Wine/Dinner and Fado music show, do it!!! The wines were awesome as were the menu items. And the live Fado show was fantastic with included history of Fado. I can't recommend this hotel enough!!!
There was no desk to work on a computer but most historical European hotel rooms are smaller and do not have space for a small desk. Not a real problem, but guests should be aware of it in case they plan to work while staying at the hotel. If so, my suggestion is work from the dining area or even the terrace area with the fabulous view.

The seating area in the breakfast area. Not enough standard style seats. Low sofa style seating which was too low to be able to eat at the table comfortably.

Breakfast was very good - small healthy buffet and choices specially prepared from menu . Modern boutique decor and design throughout the hotel - beautiful rooftop bar and infinity pool for the warmer months ! Staff were very helpful and professional - calm peaceful atmosphere throughout the hotel.
The room requires an extraction fan in bathroom - it was v damp and steamy and had no ventilation unfortunately. Also the modern drain in bathroom sink was rather smelly ….. Seats and tables in lounge / breakfast room are extremely low - tricky to sit at if you are of a certain age group !

The breakfast was excellent. There is a rooftop deck that has gorgeous views of the city where you can both eat and drink. It is very close to the trolley lines and an easy walk from many sights. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The bed and shower were excellent.
The only marginally negative thing I can think of is that there is about a 50 yard long small road that goes to the front door from a main road that is between buildings and seems a bit dark when you are walking back at nite though we had no problem at all and did not encounter anyone sketchy there.
