Location was great to explore the old town on foot
Was a bit noisy, I’m assuming delivery carts for hotels/restaurants being pushed along the cobblestone streets in the very early morning.

Good location as far as being centrally located in Funchal. The problem is that it is not located on a used road. And the sidewalk / non through road closes much of the day. It’s impossible to find. It’s impossible to get your luggage to the hotel. The parking is 10 minutes away. No one tells you that you can’t drive your car near it and that the “road “ is closed most of the time. They should at a minimum send you an e mail explaining that you can’t drive to it and won’t be able to find it. I almost canceled my stay and found a different hotel. We couldn’t find it even after calling them after an extreme amount of frustration.
The location and that the “road” / sidewalk is usually closed. The fact that your car is 10 minutes away. The fact that you can not drop your bags at the hotel. If you have heavy bags it is not where you want to stay.

We booked Sé Boutique Hotel because the location was ideal. The hotel is in the heart of Funchal next to the Cathedral. Make sure to visit the Cathedral tower!
The excellent hotel staff turned out to be a bonus. They went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and recommended activities that were perfect for us.
I forgot an item in the room and messaged the staff after we checked out. They tracked it down and held it at the desk until I was able to return for it. Very much appreciated!
Breakfast had a good variety of items.

The staff were very attentive. The room was clean and well maintained. The rooftop was a nice amenity.
I had an interior room with a view of a small courtyard area. There was another room across the courtyard from mine, so I had to keep the curtains closed the whole time. So, the room was dark and not a place I wanted to spend time.

Very well decorated and a good atmosphere. Roof terrace is a plus. Staff are very helpful and kind.
There is a complimentary drink provided but if you get the juice it’s out of a carton and the wine is given in half measures. If you provide a complimentary drink then provide it.

We loved the location, individual style and character of hotel. We particularly liked the roof terrace - a big bonus feature. The staff were so friendly and helpful.

Cooked items like scrambled eggs overcooked and not changed often enough. The coffee dispenser unable to cope with traffic resulting in long waits. Lack of fresh milk. Fruit selection ok but items like fresh oranges, when in season would be nice.

Amazing roof top bar, great vibe downstairs, central location. Amazing comfy large bed.
My shower adjustment was broken so I had to bend under it which isn't a hotel experience Id have wanted. It was also quite dirty on the shower head, I was only there one night so didn't really want to waste time complaining.
They left some bubbly as a present, was very cheap so Id rather just having a working shower (and each guest had a complimentary drink - wine wasn't very nice). I had one of the rooms with no window, which was fine as was a cheaper rate. The safe was also broken. Good breakfast selection to deal with dietary issues, plates were tiny though, so was logistically very tricky! Needs a bit more room in the breakfast area to cope with guest numbers.

Incredible Stay – They Made My Birthday Unforgettable!
From the moment we arrived, this hotel went above and beyond to make our stay special. For my birthday, they surprised us with a handwritten note, a bottle of champagne in the room, and even two free drink vouchers for their stunning rooftop bar. It was such a thoughtful and personal touch—it genuinely made my day.
The decor throughout the hotel was beautiful, stylish, and clearly well thought-out. Everything felt elegant and welcoming. The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of everything, making it super easy to explore.
But what really sets this hotel apart is the staff. Every single person we encountered was kind, helpful, and genuinely invested in making our experience a great one. You can tell they take pride in what they do.
I can’t recommend this place enough. From the ambiance to the location to the little surprises—they truly nailed it. Can’t wait to come back!
