Are you a senior citizen who wants to stay at a hotel in a time warp? Old mildewy carpets, hard beds, flat lumpy pillows, loud doors, impersonal butlers hovering all around, away from the real feel of old town Funchal? This is the place for you. If you are anyone else.. stay in the other area of Funchal which is a 10-15 minute drive away. This hotel has so much potential. It has old school charm but is desperately needing some TLC. The fast talking front desk guy was helpful and the most normal employee. The few cats were cute but when I asked someone about them I was told they were going to be removed. Sadly they were my favorite part of the property. Save the cats.

The highlight were the staff. Very friendly and

I was disappointed about the quality of the room and furnishings given the price - it did not feel like a 5 star hotel to me.
Our bathroom toilet was broken, shower was tricky with the bar in it. And the air conditioning did not work.
Breakfast was good - had better quality products but was similar to other hotels of lesser quality on the island. We were left wondering what we were paying more money for.
A good hotel but not good value for money or up to date with what we would want at that price

The staff were exceptional to a person. Friendly, informative and helpful when needed. The hotel has a very peaceful, colonial feel to it; a haven of peace.

The quinta is beautiful, the pool area is amazing abd the breakfast was really good.
The pool was cold, and the hot tub had to be upon request

The hotel offers a stunning view, which is definately its highlight. It's surrended by the garden, which is beautiful, but needs a little more care.The staff was very helpful. During the breakfast you can order eggs prepared especially for you, which is good alternative to bufet served dishes.
However, the room definately is in need of renovation and lack essential amenities, e.g. lack of contact in bathroom to charge the teethbrush and shelf to put your cosmetics and laundry bag, drawers in the only waredrobe in the room were unusable, despite being lined with paper - bad smell, what made us keep our clothes in the suitcases during whole stay, damp smell in the hallway (our room was located not in main, but additional building), contact near bed situated not over the nightstands, but just above the floor, what was uncomfortable. The staff which is responsible for swimming pool maintenance did it during swimmimg pool open hours: mowing the grass, preparing the sunbeds (every day only few of them was covered by the mattresses and with towels, so ready to use, the others remains unprepared until you asked about it). Additionally, the location is quite far from the city center, making it necessary to use a car to get around. While the scenery and garden is beautiful, the overall experience could be improved with some updates and better facilities.
