We were given a warm welcome with a glass of madeira on arrival and a basket of fruit the following day. Our room was very comfortable with a powerful shower, kettle and a sea view. The included buffet breakfast offered a great choice and also included Portuguese custard tarts, pancakes, omelettes to order and fresh bread. We loved starting our day with breakfast overlooking the sea. The pool area is stunning with infinity pool, beautiful gardens and plenty of sunbeds. The tours offered are very good value. We did the full day West Coast tour which was very enjoyable. The hotel is a good 45 minute walk to the centre of Funchal but it's surrounded by good restaurants and shops and is right next to the promenade which is great for walks. There are always plenty of taxis available but we just took the no 1 and 2 buses into the centre for 2 euros. What we liked most about Pestana Promenade was that all of the staff were so helpful, efficient and friendly.

great selection at breakfast
My room was directly on the promenade so much noise and disturbance from drunks between 1 - 4 am. Politely complained to hotel but was told nothing could be done. Contacted booking.com and they arranged a new quiet room - thank you so much booking.com!!!

The hotel is exposed perfectly to the see and you can observe beautiful sunrises. It has external pools but also a relatively big indoor which includes an hydromassage pool, both useful when the weather is too cold.
The room was a bit outdated but it was an offer so. The breakfast food is a bit repetitive, but it is ok for a week stay, but the quality can definitively be improved without getting bankrupt.
