The rooms were very comfortable and the dinner at the restaurant in the middle was good!
The breakfast was not very good and the coffee was TERRIBLE. Basically undrinkable.

Hotel location is not far from center city.
Most staff are very nice (even if one morning there was no table for 4 people (my family) available and the girl just asked us to come back later for breakfast!… not the answer I am expecting from a 5 stars hotel, espescially when you have an appointment for a hike!… so on our own we merged 2 tables, that was it.
The Suite on the 8th floor was very nice, we enjoyed a great terrasse with very nice view on the ocean.
Swimming pool very nice as well.
Few small restaurants around, but food quality was good.

The view from our hotel was excellent, over looking the north Atlantic sea and I can hear the waves from our little balcony. The room was clean, breakfast was very good, hotel facilities are great.
Above all, the staff from the hotel are all super friendly and accommodating that you'll really feel welcome and appreciated.

I was on vacation with my mom, who had long dreamed of visiting Madeira. It was her birthday. I asked the hotel management to help make this vacation unforgettable. The staff went above and beyond, were very attentive, gave us a birthday cake, and did everything they could to make our stay as memorable as possible.

Air conditioning didn’t work for the first two days, even after calling reception three times. Beds were too firm.

Great staff in a below average hotel.
Definitely not 5 star, more like 3 star. Location is great but everything needs a revamp and the rooms stank of dirty drains. Excellent staff in a below average hotel. Awful breakfast. We left after one night.

The hotel facilities are amazing. The location by the sea and balcony views. Very good breakfast and restaurant area where it is served.
The food and drink in the hotel was overpriced compared to restaurants outside. The food quality was poor compared to restaurants close by.

Wonderful
Location was a factor when choosing this hotel; close enough to downtown Funchal yet far enough to avoid the busyness and we were not disappointed. Pestana Vila Lido is located right on the ocean front where all rooms had an ocean view...amazing. Breakfast provided a wide variety for all food sensitivities. Thanks to Miguel, Ismael and staff for being so accommodating. We will return.
Very hard to find something not to like about this hotel.

The noise from the ocean was lovely at night. Rooms were modern and clean. Breakfast was good. The front desk gentleman were very helpful and kind. Dec 25 at night and 26th before 11am gentleman that worked the desk- thank you! We wish we stayed here longer. We went to the Carlton owned by the same company and it was horrible.
Some of the carpet was very outdated. But clean.

Wonderful
Very good location, since we have a car the private parking is very convenient, gated and in and out at any time. Absolutely beautiful view from our balcony.
If I had to say anything, the onsite restaurant is a bit pricey, we did not eat there but choose a short walk to many food options

The á la carte restaurant was not good. Very expensive compared to the low quality, poor looking and even almost bad food. The loud live bar music is very inappropriate for an a la carte restaurant in a 5 star hotel as we could hardly hold up conversations. The staff was very nice, but I would never visit the restaurant again.

I love that it had direct access to the ocean for swimming and the hotel is strategically located 360 view so so beautiful the ocean the garden...its a little eden by the ocean. The rooms are spacious and clean. I had an amazing stay here.
