Close to Funchal city, and airport. Lots of restaurants and bars around. Close to the ocean and two clean and warm outdoor pools
There's literally no ventilation in the obey and other common areas.
Breakfast is no way close to even a 4 star hotel in terms of variety and options.
The main discomfort is the terrace, where we got locked (twice, with stress) out because of the weird terrace doors. We shouted and someone heard us and came for rescue.

The location of this hotel truly competes with some of the upscale hotels in the area, such as the Savoy and The Cliff Bay and, in my opinion, it may even be better!
The interiors are spacious and beautiful, and you can enjoy stunning ocean views from almost anywhere in the hotel. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from many excellent dining options and also within easy walking distance of Funchal town.
Our room, a Junior Suite (417), had a panoramic balcony overlooking the ocean. I’m still dreaming about sitting on that balcony and watching the sunset!
The rooms are exceptionally clean! (clean even to my OCD standards!) The staff were fantastic, and anything extra we needed was easily arranged.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a genuine 5-star experience without paying a fortune.
We only had breakfast included, which was great, with a good variety of options and fresh ingredients. We didn’t dine at the hotel’s restaurants, but we did have a burger and a grilled chicken salad from the pool bar. Unfortunately, both were quite dry and not of the best quality. Perhaps this is something that could be improved, as the rest of our experience was very enjoyable.

i didn’t like that things like the ac stopped working, tvs wouldn’t turn off and the shower drain was clogged, no one ever came by to fix it so i just did it myself

The location is excellent, with easy access to the sea and several pools. The room was spacious and comfortable.
They didn't mention that the room had a city view rather than a sea view. The free parking was a real adventure.

Loved the sixties "mid century" architecture, and the view from our room was breathtaking.
Staff was uniformly exceptionally polite and helpful.
Our airconditioner dripped into the entryway, soaking the carpet. Not a big issue, but it needed to be attended to.

+balcony and amazing view from the room (we were on the 17th floor)
+bathtub
+good proximity to city center and many restaurants nearby to go for dinner
+fast elevators (despite many floors and many people)
+many sunbeds and umbrella was given easily upon request
-hairdryer was broken, so we had to go to reception and ask for a new one
-quite poor breakfast (max. 3/5 stars). It was quite difficult to find what to eat and the breakfast area is too small, so it gets crowded extremely fast (long queues to get food). During 1 week stay we were never allowed to eat outside, because every morning we were told that it’s all full (even though we could see some empty tables from the inside).
-during the cleaning, someone forgot to lock our door, so when we returned to the room the door was completely open
-for some reason it is not allowed to pay by cash in restaurants (only by card, which is a bit convenient to take card to the pool area)
-towels could be exchanged only during the room cleaning time (so needed to wait or go find a housekeeper to get new towels)
-cold water in the ocean and pools
