No AC, no safe, everything in the room is very old overused, corridor floors very old can ear every noise grom people walking and from other rooms, wardrobe doors don’t close, light bulbs missing, shower curtain useless, breakfast room feels like a school canteen, eating breakfast is like a being in a sauna no window coverings (need sunglasses to eat breakfast)

Probably the worst holel I've ever been in. Each night waking up full of sweat because of no ac in middle of august and ended up getting sick. Everything was dirty and old.

The owners, who know nothing about hospitality yet have a constant presence in front of guests, hang around the lobby policing people while they pickle their livers at the bar. They put no money into the place but their staff members do their best.

It’s a little bit old, the rooms and furniture, they don’t change the towels, it’s hot because there is no air conditioner but you have a window so it will refresh.

Room was old, creaky floors and old furniture.

No lounge chairs by the pool. No wi fi in the rooms. No restaurant for snacks or meals. Long hill down and up to the hotel.

I couldn't find any reason for dislikes

Many accommodated customers were put off by the higher prices of drinks and food in the hotel restaurant than in the surrounding area.

Small improvements could make a huge difference. Breakfasts - cold milk out at start! Greater fruit variety (1 day had fruit salad, lovely). Fruit often felt not quite ripe (no excuses on this island - esp on market days). Only black tea available Tetley - suggest guests bring own if fussy (English!). Dinner - unimaginative, not good value for money compared with that available in town / near market. Forgot orders at times (e.g. glass of wine at dinner). Room - dirty behind / under head of bed ++. Did clean visible room / change sheets and towels mostly every other day or on request (though occasionally ignored that had had a do not disturb out all morning and went in to 'tidy' in afternoon). Bath clearly old, white enamel broken down in parts. Mainly good hot water (though if arrived back early afternoon, not always very hot). Shower and bath available - good! Tiny enclosed courtyard / no view at all, 2 plastic seats - absolutely no attraction to use - why bother?? Swimming pool small, no loungers, only a fe)bean bags (not tried - can't get in and out of them!!) Reasonably quiet (not full, but not summer), but sound insulation not good. No access to service at swimming pool (drinks etc.). Certainly not encouraging people to use / stay at side of pool. Small tweaks would make a big difference, but overall, felt as though a bit quaint and antiquated (in decor too - odd little 'library'). Poor inside bar space, no lounge facility, no big screen access / music / entertainment etc. A little out of the way with poor access for large vehicles (despite tours saying they would pick up at hotel, they all later specified a pick up point from 5 to 20 minutes walk away). Quite 'uphill' for coming back from town after a long day!! Although price appeared competitive on booking in ignorance, I srongly suspect overpriced for the level of facilities offered.

Always leaving the key at the reception feels odd. Supposedly they only have internet in the common areas, but it had no problem going online in my room.

Breakfast needs work in fact start again, a little thought and effort it would improve the hotel a lot

Wi-Fi only in the library and bar area, which is a big minus in year 2025 unfortunately. The bed and linen were clean but the building would have needed some renovation and cleaning. Inside the wardrobe there was smell of mould so we did not use that. The heater and hair dryers were given only on request which is uncommun. Some renovations are undergoing so I hope these things would get fixed because the place has lots of potential if renovated. It is prohibited to eat in the rooms but we did not understand why. The location is good if you prefer a nice view to Funchal,the ocean and desert islands but if you want to be close to the city centre and movida you need to be fit enough to walk up or rent a car :) taxis to the hotel from Funchal city centre are 4-5 euros, which is fine!
