The staff!
Run down in need of major update. The pool was so disappointing dirty, broken tiles. No Bar. No Tea/Coffee in room. Bedroom furniture old, painted green, awful green carpet. Balcony furniture was falling apart.

Great value for money. A bit old but for money its good. Breakfast is not very fancy. Simple i would say but all in all for 97$ i payed its worth of every penny. A special for the size of room and view

It was beautiful I loved it the hotel decor the staff very very cheerful and when I checked in I don't use lifts the reception staff got another staff member to bring me to my room

Large selection for breakfast - especially the fresh fruit; staff were very engaging and attentive plus it was easy to communicate in English; car parking was straight forward and there was excellent WiFi coverage. Water pressure and temperatures were good.
The room we had (210) was in very tired in condition, the corridor carpet was old and stained and the lift was aged and jerky. No tea/coffee making facilities. The towels were old and thin (though very clean).

It was fantastic value for money. The room had a balcony with a fabulous view. The room was cleaned daily, and literally every single staff member couldn't have been more helpful, welcoming or friendly. Lovely buffet breakfast.
About an hours walk from Funchal, which we did a couple of times, but an easy direct bus.
The pillow on my bed was too high which made my neck ache.
The balcony paintwork could do with a freshen up.
No transport at all on New Year's Eve, and an hour's uphill walk!

An unexpected hospital stay for my husband led me to Hotel Escola. It was close to the Private Hospital and reasonably priced. I could not have asked for anywhere better. The staff were outstanding and took care of me and anything that I needed. The breakfast buffet was simple but good. The dining room was big and spacious with amazing views.
My room had a balcony which overlooked the ocean and surrounding countryside and had amazing sunsets. When my husband was discharged and came back to the hotel with me he was welcomed by the staff and manager. I felt that I was at home. It was an amazing place to stay during a very difficult time for me.
As said in previous reviews the decor is a little tired but it wasn't something I would say I didn't like. Some new bath towels and bed pillows would be nice .
