Very Good
Absolutely wonderful view; rooms are clean and well kept; breakfasts and dinners are great; staff is very nice and helpful
The building and furniture are dated, expect chipped wood and a lil' corrosion here and there; amenities common to a 3 star hotel, such as tea and kettle, slippers, safe locker, are either absent or paywalled; location, while beautiful, lacks infrastructure, you get stranded if you don't have a car

Pleasant
The location and view from the room were amazing. Large room and bed, with a balcony facing the mountains.
Good breakfast, but not too many options to choose from.
Small pool with sunbeds.
Cute, extremly friendly cat, Oscar.
Gym is small, but good enough, I guess.
We arrived at 1:55pm, check-in is from 2pm. And the staff in the reception made us wait another 15mins, because we arrived too early. I did not appreciate it at all.
All the furniture is noisy, as well as the door, which besides being squeaky, also makes loud sounds to confirm you opened it and to notify your door is still open. Which can be good, but not if you want to wait for 10 seconds for the other person to get out of the room and you end up informing the whole.floor about it. Of course nothing is sound proof, so not only did you hear all these noises in your room, but all these noises from your neighbors as well. Each drawer, each door, every move.
Eggshells in the omelette every single day. Unbelievable, must be a record!
Sauna was "under maintenance" throughout our whole 5 night stay. Of course the price did not reflect the fact that you can't use parts of the facilities they say they offer at booking time.
Mini golf course and table tennis exist, but do not look great. We got exactly 0 information about the facilities at check in, so I can't tell if those were "under maintenance" as well.
There seemed to be some other restaurant/bar in the garden, but I have not seen it functioning.
All in all, pretty pricey for what it offers. Which is basically just a great location.

Wonderful
Located in a lovely area, close to the sea and the mountains, ideal for walkers. Rooms & communal areas are very comfortable & clean.
Great amenities, ie pool, gym, sauna, gardens, etc. Their masseur provides a great service - this is in the gym, not a dedicated spa area.
Lovely staff who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We plan on returning!
The evening meal options were very limited & the quality was variable - when it was good, it was great, but at other times, it wasn't so great.
Staffing levels were pitifully low. The poor bar man (who was great, BTW) was running around waiting & clearing tables, etc while tending the bar! The hotel was fully booked with the majority looking to book tables and use the bar all within a 3 hr time frame. We've no idea how he managed it, but somehow he did!
We felt bad for the poor guy who somehow managed to maintain a cheerful demeanour while this was going on!

Very Poor
What a scam!!! The room was very very noisy with 45 db due to ventilation from the kitchen. This is 50% higher than what WHO recommend (30 db) for a sleeping room. They turned off the ventilation to stop the noise when I complained and then turned it on again a bit later. So far at 19:30, this procedure has happened 4 times.
The aircon in the room had 40 db noise when turning it on.
The door to the balcony couldn’t be closed properly.
In addition, when I booked the room through Booking.com, the room was marketed with Sea View. But did see 0.0% of the Sea due to a tree in front of the view.
When asking for some compensation, the refused and asked me to talk to Booking.com.
They were fully aware of the issue and blamed Booking for having incorrect pictures.

The hotel is on a hill in the beautiful valley of Sao Vicente. Our room had a view of the magnificent mountains and the sea and it was amazing. The hotel and the room are pretty, the room has a small fridge, nice bathroom, and my favourite part was a balcony. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The breakfast has a good choice of food, even though it doesn’t change much from day to day.
Unfortunately we didn’t find the beds comfortable. I have bad back and my husband doesn’t but both of us had back pain after sleeping in it. The mattresses are just way too hard.
Also, when we booked a room it had twin beds, which were two single beds put together. After sleeping in them for one night we realised we had made a mistake and asked if we can have a double bed. We were told it would be an extra cost. It turned out they put an extra mattress protector on the twin beds which sort of held them together but they still were moving one from the other and we could feel the space between the beds. It was still not a comfortable arrangement and they charged us 20 EUR per night for this. Not sure why charge per night when all you did is put a thin mattress protector once?
We feel that the property, being a 4 star hotel, should invest in more comfortable beds.
There were other things in the room which felt dated/uncomfortable, such as a wardrobe with heavy doors with no handles, or absence of proper blanket with a duvet, you have to cover with a bed sheet and a separate rough blanket.
The hotel also felt understaffed when on one night we spent 2 hours on dinner in the bar waiting for food for long periods of time. The food is good and the people who work there go out of their way to do their job but clearly when the hotel is full it has to have more people in the kitchen.

Apparently this has been a tourist destination for many years but the old building has been modernised inside. At least our room, the dining area and the reception area were modern. We didn't use the lift because stairs led directly to our room. The man in charge of the breakfast rates special mention. He was very helpful both at breakfast and helped find other staff when we were leaving. There was a gentle grey cat who supervised the car park. The accommodation was signposted from the town. You drive up into the hills then at the T-junction there was nothing so we asked at the cafe. You turn left at the junction and the right turn for the hotel is shown soon after.
The weather wasn't always kind and a large puddle formed in the car park although it soon disappeared. Parking space was a bit cramped. It didn't bother us but latecomers had to be creative. I guess parking wasn't a problem in historic times!

Exceptional
A very nice hotel, in a very lovely house with a great garden.
Perfect if you want to explore the trails in the area or just to relax. The pool is nice, the breakfast great and the staff friendly.
Having a car is recommended. Thus it is manageable without a car.

Loved the breakfast! George and Joanna were fabulous! Great suggestions and so personable. Both of you made our experience even better! Thank you for your hospitality. It will always be remembered.
Loved everything! However if you don’t have a car it will be difficult getting around in that location. Good thing taxis are available and cheap!
