An excellent location. The cable car connection to center was easy and Monte Palace Botanical Garden was close. Hotel garden is beautiful and has good amount of parking spaces. The pool was a nice extra. The bar offers food until 23. The view from the room was beautiful.
The hot tub next to the pool was broken. The gym is poor.

The rooms were in a terrible condition: very old, the shower was very dirty, and when we asked for it to be cleaned, they just wiped it with a rag that smelled bad and didn’t actually clean anything. The air conditioner in the room didn’t work, even though when we booked the room we specifically made sure there was air conditioning. The staff were of no help, since the maintenance team could only come on Monday.
I didn’t like the level of cleanliness. The rooms and the hotel are very, very old and not well maintained. The attitude of the staff was unhelpful and dismissive.

The view, atmosphere and staff were exquisite. The location is troublesome to get to. Basically all that can be done by personnel was really good and all that is defined by architecture shows its history. A very pleasant stay.
And if you are planning on driving, check the elevation maps, then check them again and believe that it is THAT steep.
The room lacked central lighting and was illuminated by multiple small lamps. The feel is cozy but when you like light, then you have to wait for the sun.
The gym was unventilated (but the whole Funchal is one big gym if you move around)

Spacious , high ceiling , classy rooms with older style furniture that perfectly matched the property atmosphere, Beautiful garden full of flowers.
Dinner was not available in the restaurant the evening of our stay and we had to go to Funchal.

Lovely location and the room (booked last minute) was enormous. Restaurant on site was good, breakfast so so.
Our room was situated next to a maintenance closet, the noise was extremely loud whenever they closed the doors.

Breakfast was good. Views were nice.
We were on our honeymoon while staying here and they put us in a twin room. We had to complain to get an upgrade to a bigger room with a queen bed despite our booking notes. They did absolutely nothing to make us feel special.
Checkin provided minimal details.
Then to end our stay, our passports ended up in the TRASH and we missed a flight costing us $1300. The receptionist was not helpful at all and escalated the situation. He essentially told us we had lost passports before and would not assist. In a highly stressful situation, their reception staff member (pictured) made it MUCH worse and did not help at all, I would avoid this dramatic staff member at all costs. I have never experienced such terrible service. We found our passports in the dumpster after having missed our flight. The receptionist response was "see I told you it wasnt in the room".

Clean, quiet and the staff was amazing. Breakfast was great. Riding the gondola down to Funchal for the day was really fun and a nice break from driving. Having a separate living room was wonderful since I get up earlier than my husband.
Driving there is a bit tricky but well worth it

Beautiful charming hotel with stunning surroundings with exotic garden and sea view. It's perfect if you want to be in a peaceful area surrounded by nature. Close to Madeira Palace garden and the tobogans.Staff goes above and beyond! Nadia ,José and Eunice very welcoming and ready to make your stay memorable:) Obrigado I will come back
Perfect stay if you rent a car as no much restaurants and no shops around just nature. You can only go down to Funchal on cable car or uber. Very steep roads and no sidewalks. But if you want to experience the tropical feeling of a island this is your hotel:)

The location of the hotel is excellent—just a few minutes' walk from the Monte Palace Botanical Garden and the cable car. The hotel grounds are stunning, resembling a beautiful botanical garden with views of the sea and a nearby church. The common areas are tastefully decorated with antique furniture, Persian rugs, wooden floors, fresh flowers from the garden, and many charming details. I absolutely loved the atmosphere.
The staff is friendly and professional, and everything is impeccably clean. Breakfast is good—while the selection isn’t huge, it includes everything you need for a satisfying start to the day.
It’s clear that the staff works hard to keep the hotel clean and well-maintained, but some areas are starting to show signs of wear and could benefit from renovation—especially the pool area. The space has incredible potential: the pool is a good size, and the view from it is absolutely stunning. However, the jacuzzi wasn’t working during our stay, and based on other reviews, it seems to have been out of order for several months. A light refresh of this area would truly elevate the overall experience and take the hotel to the next level.

The hotel is beautiful.The beds were very comfortable. Everywhere was really clean. The staff were very helpful. Vera, Jose and Eunice were at reception. They gave us recommendations of places to visit and restaurants that served delicious food. The included breakfasts were delicious with copious choices The restaurant in the evening was lovely.
Norbert, the waiter. was very attentive. He spoke several languages and was extremely helpful. The hotel was situated close to the toboggan ride , gardens and the cable car. Although we were unlucky with the weather we still enjoyed ourselves.
The hotel was hard to find. We found that using Google maps on our phones was better than the sat nav in the car.
