We liked everything about this apartment! The beds were very comfortable, it was spotless, had everything you needed including a washing machine. We particularly liked the location which was walking distance to all of the main sights in the old town. Our host, Hugo, was absolutely the best host we have ever had. He collected us from the airport, gave helpful and useful advice on everything. Can't be faulted! Would definitely recommend - and he has another nearby property for more people which looks stunning. Madeira has something for everyone and we loved it! We would recommend hiring a car if you're staying a bit longer (we were there for a week). Drivers are courteous and polite on the whole.
There is nothing about this property we didn't like. A perfect base for exploring, which we did a lot of!

The communication: Hugo the owner of the house is a very welcoming person, explains and suggests what to visit, where to eat, where to rent a car, where to and not park. He was in contact with us almost every day, asking if all was fine.
Kindness: Hugo picked us up and dropped us at the airport, welcomed us with so many gifts ( exotic fruits from Madeira, wine, chocolates). He arranged a tourist guide.
House: as described. All what you need is there. Although we stayed only 8 nights, Hugo arranged the cleaning. It is situated near everything (buses, shops). Hugo will hand you a map and will explain what's best to visit.
We really can't complain. We have enjoyed staying here and are recommending you too. Hugo speaks English so don't be skeptical.

A beautiful house with courtyard in a quiet location close to the center of Funchal. And last but not least, a relaxed host who is there for you at the right times, who will pick you up from the airport, spoil you with wine and delicacies and with excellent tips for trips and restaurants.

I travel a lot and I won't exaggerate if I say that Hugo was the best host I have ever had. He went above and beyond to make our stay unique. Not only did he pick us up from the airport but also offered a drop off after our stay. We were welcomed with exotic fruits, cookies, cake, local wine and a bottle of water. Hugo also shared with us all his recommendations on where to eat/drink, what to see, how to organize things etc. Our stay in Casa da Avo Clementina was truly amazing and if we are ever back to Madeira (one can hope!) we will definitely stay here again. It was one of my best trips! Obrigada!

Very friendly host who provided us with plenty of awesome information! The appartment is also amazing with a small terrace in the middle. All the ameneties that we needed were there. The location is also perfect as it really does not require a steep walk on the streets on Funchal (5min walking Mercado dos Lavradores). Would recommend to everyone!

Quite possibly the best place we've stayed while travelling! The host and the accommodation were amazing.
Hugo went above and beyond as host. He gave recommendations through WhatsApp and a personally annotated map of Funchal and Madeira island, left local wine, fruits and biscuits upon arrival, and picked us up from our accommodation in Porto da Cruz and dropped us off at the airport.
The accommodation was absolutely brilliant! It was clean, had bath towels and beach towels, a small garden to sit in during the day and a living room with a TV.

I’ve been traveling for some time and met many different hosts - all of them were nice but Hugo is incredible! He took care of everything and tried to help us as much as possible so we could feel like at home.

We fully enjoyed every single minute we spent in Funchal and Casa da Avo Clementina exceeded by far all our expectations. Located only a few minutes away from the city center, the house is so comfortable, clean, well-appointed and authentic. We particularly enjoyed the vintage feeling with the heavy wood furniture which reminded us so dearly of our own grandparents' homes, yet having all the modern appliances readily available. But the best of all was our host, Hugo, who kept in touch with us the whole time, greeted us with fresh fruit, cake, cold water and a wonderful bottle of Madeira wine. He took the time to suggest what we could visit around, recommend restaurants that were excellent, made sure that we had everything we needed and more. Thank you, Hugo, for everything, we hope to be back some day!
