Clean, comfortable and within reasonable walking proximity to the downtown city sights, restaurants, etc. Had a nice, grass-covered courtyard for relaxing at the end of the day.
Rooms are a bit small. No elevator. Fine for fit individuals, but would not work well for elderly or others unable to carry luggage upstairs.

Front desk staff was pleasant and accommodating — we arrived early, our room selection and parking happened to be available ( though I am well aware that this is not usually the case at hotels) we had booked for 2 nights but ended up staying only 1 night as our travel plans had changed. Good location . . . Walking distance to everything Christchurch!
Room was spotlessly clean but rather tiny; limited space for luggage; small shower but good water pressure.

Great location; helpful staff; easy to leave stuff in baggage room. Room had everything I needed: coffee, plunger, fridge, bathroom and comfy bed!
My room was adjacent to the communal balcony, so I had to shut curtains for privacy (I prefer to have the natural light and fresh air), but otherwise, all good.

Southwark Hotel and Apartments is a very nice place to stay while in Christchurch. The staff was pleasant and professional. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. The location is outstanding for walkable access to transportation services, restaurants, shops, and points of interest in the city.
The layout of the rooms on a very narrow hallway makes for difficult passage during housekeeping times. Noise is amplified so that any sound from adjacent doors or rooms is very noticeable.
