Very Good
Very well situated in the city. Easy access to all the sights and sounds of Oslo. Breakfast was good.
Whoever designs the bathroom layouts needs to be forced to use them for at least 2 days. Siting the toilet roll holders so close to the toilet is both an awkward and unnecessary arrangement…..

The restaurant being closed on Sunday after 4pm and the restaurant being busy with a large group. I had to go somewhere else.

Very Poor
The physical condition of the hotel is far below what one would expect from a five-star property. The facilities are visibly worn out, tired, and in need of substantial renovation. Based solely on its condition and level of maintenance, I would struggle to justify even a three-star rating, let alone the five-star classification it currently holds. A hotel may face operational difficulties, but there is no excuse for delivering an unclean room, providing no housekeeping for four days, maintaining facilities in such poor condition, and then treating paying guests with disrespect when they seek clarification about charges. This hotel failed in the most basic aspects of hospitality: cleanliness, service, transparency, and guest relations. I cannot recommend it and would certainly never stay here again.
Worst hotel experience I have had in decades of international travel. I travel frequently and stay in hotels all over the world, but I have never experienced such poor service and lack of professionalism. When we arrived, it was immediately obvious that our room had not been properly cleaned. There appeared to be some kind of staff strike or operational issue, but regardless of the reason, the room was not in an acceptable condition for arriving guests. During our entire 4-night stay, housekeeping did not clean our room even once. Not a single visit. The condition of the bathroom and toilet was particularly disappointing. The housekeeping failure alone would have justified a serious complaint, but the treatment we received regarding breakfast was even worse. Our original Booking.com reservation was for 4 nights at approximately EUR 1,197. Upon arrival, my wife and I requested that breakfast be added to the reservation. We paid an additional amount and the total charge increased to approximately EUR 1,587. Based on the price difference and the fact that the room was occupied by two guests, we reasonably understood that breakfast had been added for both of us. However, when we arrived at breakfast, we were informed that breakfast had been paid for only one person. We were sent to reception to resolve the issue. Instead of receiving assistance, we were met with an extremely rude and dismissive attitude. Staff refused to acknowledge the significant additional amount we had paid and focused only on technical arguments about currency conversion. The discussion took place in front of other guests, which was embarrassing and humiliating. What makes this situation particularly unacceptable is that the hotel was arguing over breakfast charges while simultaneously failing to provide basic housekeeping services throughout the entire stay.

Wonderful
I had decided to go for a bit of luxury after the long haul from Australia! I really enjoyed my stay. Very centrally placed- easy access to everywhere. The Royal Palace parklands were my favourite. Really beautiful. The Grand Hotel is expensive, so it depends on what your priorities are. I loved it. Unfortunately the strike affecting hotels across Norway meant that some facilities were not available. But that didn't worry me. Friendly, helpful staff and the decor is superb. Breakfast awesome too!
Couldn't really fault it.

2 sinks in the bathroom has some drainage issues. We stayed for 3 nights, there was no cleaning for our room, which is king of disappointment.

The location and breakfast was great.
We paid for a grand petite room. We were given room 527 and it was tiny. Not even a cupboard or drawers. Looking at the listing again this is not the room we paid for It was unfortunate as our visit coincided with strike of hospitality workers which meant no cleaning of rooms, clean towels and access to roof bar was closed. Didn’t go to the spa but it was an extra 250 NOK

Didn’t have a chance. Because of the strike I couldn’t stay there. They sent to a very boring hotel instead.
Never had the chance to find out.

Very Good
The hotel is in a great location in central Oslo within walking distance of main attractions. The staff were very professional and helpful. We asked for a room that was less stuffy and were offered an alternative that was better suited. The bed was extremely comfortable. Takk!
The swimming pool was extremely warm and therefore not pleasant to swim in. The ongoing strike affected the hotel’s ability to offer a full service. The picket lines outside hotels represented staff who are seeking better pay and conditions-we hope they succeed. Norway is an expensive place to visit, never mind to live in.

Nothing, due to the strike in the hospitality industry, we were sent to another lower level tiered hotel to stay in even though we prepaid a couple of months in advance of the trip. We received zero communication about our two rooms being rebooked at a lower level property. No pre-notification from Booking.com nor from Grand Hotel Oslo. We did not receive a rate change nor credit from moving from one tier hotel to another.
No rooms upon available after prepaying a number of weeks/months in advance. After arriving to the hotel with all of our luggage in tow, we were informed headquarters for the hotel chain group randomly decided who would be moved to a lower level property, again with no pre-notice. We again, took luggage in tow to locate new hotel property. Throughout our stay we witnessed numerous parties complaining about the change in hotel reservation/standard, to the front desk of the hotel we were all moved to. All parties we overheard in the lobby appeared to have the same experience, no pre-notice of the change and a drastic change in level of hotel booked. Many parties complaining were very animated in their communication due to how the reservations were systematically changed without keeping the customer in the loop. Changes can’t be made once you are in the 24 hour window and if you are not informed in advance you have no options.
