Housed in a historic building from 1876, Opus XVI, an Edvard Grieg Heritage Hotel, is a luxury hotel located in central Bergen featuring individually designed rooms and suites. Guests can enjoy a Norwegian-style breakfast buffet and are free to admire the in-house exhibition. Free high speed WiFi is available throughout the hotel. had an overall pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is excellent and probably its greatest strength, making it a very convenient base for exploring the city. The property feels more like a boutique hotel than a traditional five-star hotel. While the atmosphere is relaxed and informal, guests expecting the level of service typically associated with a luxury hotel may find some aspects lacking. For example, there is no automatic luggage assistance upon arrival, and guests are generally expected to find their way to their rooms themselves unless they specifically ask for help. I was also surprised that no one accompanied me to my room or explained the facilities. In most five-star hotels, staff will show guests how everything works, including the air conditioning system. Unfortunately, I spent my first night feeling cold because I could not understand how the heating and cooling system operated. The system appears to be centrally regulated, which is not immediately obvious. Another unusual feature is the absence of an in-room telephone. Communication with the hotel is handled through WhatsApp, which some guests may find modern and convenient, while others may prefer more traditional options.

There wasn't much to dislike about this hotel. It had a comfortable bed, a clean room, was in a great location and had a stellar breakfast. The architecture and style in the hotel was well done. The staff was friendly, open and helpful. It makes you want to seek out the other hotels in this collection.
Like all older buildings, getting up and down from room to street involved both stairs and elevators. The ongoing strike kept the waitstaff, kitchen and bell hops off the job. The restaurant was closed, however, the full breakfast and bar continued. On check in, we described how sleep deprived we were to the front desk clerk and he made sure we weren't lugging our extended stay suitcases up and down the short flights of stairs to our room. The staff made up for the negativity of the strike.

Our room was poorly located and cost nearly twice as much as the abrupt cancellation by the Bergen Radisson Blu due to a labour dispute.

Lady of the front desk was amazing, really did the extra mile. Comfortable rooms and beds. Nice historic building. Amazing breakfast with local products.

The most obnoxious, least friendly, pasdive-agressive desk clerk. Middle aged lady, longish gray hair, severe attitude issues. Ignored me multiple times going out of her way to pretend I was not there. No other people checking in, no other people in the bar area, just her standing at her desk pretending I was not there. Absolutely atrocious behaviour. I was not rude, demanding, difficult. I simply wanted to check in and when she said my room wasnt ready, I did not complain. Instead I said I would have a drink at the bar and wait, no problem. She brought me a bar menu and never came back. I could see her 5 metres away from me, doing nothing, but avoiding eye contact. I finally ordered from someone else and then she came over to say I could check in. I explained I had just ordered a glass of wine at which point she looked annoyed with me. Then she said she could check me in at my bar table (for the record, all I needed was my room key as I had checked in online). And again, she left and never came back. Finally there was another clerk at the check in desk and I went to see him to get my key. He was very helpful and nice. And later that night, the young man from Montenegro working the bar was friendly, hospitable and professional. As were the two waitresses at breakfast the following morning. But the woman checking me in was awful. Worst experience I had in Norway. Shame!

Room was clean. Adequate size.
Noise. No sleep every night from 11 pm to 3 am. Very loud foot traffic (assuming from nearby bar). Bed was way too soft, but staff did help with that.
