A reputable hotel.
Due to a fire in the kitchen on Feb 4th, I had to spend one night elsewhere, but I came back on Feb 5th to finish my stay. The hotel is still top-notch and highly recommended despite the temporary setback.

Honestly, this was a mess. I had a fully paid booking for 5 beds, 2 nights (Jan 30 – Feb 1, 2026). When I arrived at A&O Hostel Rotterdam, I was told they were overbooked. No warning, no email, nothing. I waited for about an hour at reception while they tried to figure it out. Eventually, they sent me to Van der Valk Rotterdam – Blijdorp and clearly told me that both nights were covered. That turned out to be wrong. The next day (Jan 31), the hotel told me that A&O had only booked one night, and that after 8:00 PM I would no longer have a room. I tried calling A&O multiple times. No one answered. Later, the manager admitted the phone number listed online and on Booking.com is incorrect, which explains why contacting them was impossible. With no help, no response, and no solution, I was forced to pay for the second night myself, even though I had already paid for two nights in the original booking. The following day, I went back to A&O in person and spoke with the manager. He acknowledged the situation and gave me an email to request a refund. I never received a reply. Booking.com also couldn’t help. This wasn’t bad luck. It was poor organization, bad communication, and zero responsibility. The whole place felt overwhelmed, and even the front desk staff seemed stressed dealing with unhappy guests. If you’re booking here, understand this: a paid reservation does not guarantee you a room. I wouldn’t stay here again, and I don’t recommend it.

We stayed for 4 nights. On the second day I noticed that while we were out in the city someone was in our room and went through our stuff. I checked and found out that a box of jewelry was missing. Administrators at the reception told me that it was probably someone with an electronic key, but they couldn't tell more as there are no cameras on the floors. The manager wrote me a note that I could attached when contacting the customer service. On the next day I went to the local police and reported the incident. The same day someone broke into the room again and made some mess, so I could see it - it was a revenge for making "noise", obviously. I wrote an email to the customer service, describing the events. Stay away from this place.

Location and price.
Staff. There is always a qeueu in front of reception. Even for the short question, you have to wait 10 minutes. I have ignored to ask a couple of times and just walked away instead of waiting.

Clean, ok, not cheap, but the cheapest at that point. Not far from the station.
A bit long waiting time at the reception. Some self-checkin option with a screen which was taken by someone who in the end stopped using it half way. The main issue was: very sociable yet noisy room mates, well after switching off of lights and midnight. Before that (not so disturbing since I was awake: there was some bringing of extra mattresses etc). No kitchen? At least I was not told of one. Big problem: not enough places to charge phone, so I had to almost argue with a room-made since we both have phone issues and need to charge through the night.

The location is close to central station.
Someone has been staying in the room the whole time, and their things are everywhere. The room smells even when I leave the window open all night. Someone has been smoking in the bathroom all night and all my clothes smell. The sink is blocked, and there are towels and bed linen on the floor of the bathroom. I don't recommend it. Also, if people can smoke in the bathroom and the fire alarm is not working, this is a serious safety issue.

First of all, we checked in and we were double charged from the reception of the hostel with the excuse that our payment in booking was not visible in the system yet. We got a room with a hacked door, excrement in the toilet and when we asked to change it because we were afraid of our safety and disgusted we got a noisy room that was smelling tobacco, with an almost broken lock too. The atmosphere in the hostel from the staff to the guests was totally bad and we had the impression that the place is not safe at all. The only person that was looking professional and tried to help us for all this inconvenience was the manager of the reception.
