We arrived at the hotel an hour before check-in and found our room was ready, which was a pleasant surprise. The room overlooked the Maas River and offered nice views of the city as well. The king bed was comfortable, and the furnishings in the room were fun (and funky), harking back to the days when our relatives traveled by boat between continents. It also had a nice, big bathroom. The hotel building itself is a period piece from a bygone era of steamship travel, and they've done a great job preserving that feel. Plus, you can use the water taxi to get to and from the city—it's a super awesome way to experience the uniqueness of Rotterdam.
The hotel restaurant (and especially the outdoor terrace) has slow service. We had lunch and drinks there. Also, because most transactions are now electronic, paying in cash is a challenge for the staff. Aside from lacking basic math skills, the servers don't carry enough change to smoothly handle cash transactions. So, my advice is to just use a credit card.

Close to the Cruise terminal. Walking distance to the metro and Rotterdam Central. Some restaurants around the hotel. Super hot water and decent toiletries.
Farther from the center of town than we thought. Turn of the century hotel. It's a little dark inside. About 8 stairs to enter the hotel. I and I did not see a ramp. No mini fridge in the room. Breakfast is 25 euros.

Great location. Easy stroll to many restaurants and a grocery store. Five minute walk to the cruise terminal.
It was difficult to get our luggage in and back out. The entrance had stairs. There was a lift of sorts, but it was really made for people, not luggage.

Some of the reception staff were not helpful and this caused several issues during our stay. Although early check-in was confirmed on arrival, the room we were given still had a maintenance worker inside, so we had to return to reception and request another room. We also asked reception to book a taxi for the evening. The booking was made under our original room number rather than our name, which caused confusion after we were moved to a different room. When we asked reception to check with the taxi company, we were told the issue was our fault, even though the taxi had been arranged by the hotel. As a result, we were late for our venue. The next day we were also given the wrong room key, which suggested that our details had not been properly checked.

We loved that the hotel was so close to the pier. We arrived via a Holland America cruise ship so walking to the hotel was easy. In addition, we walked a great deal following a tour book we had and it's location made things easy.
The stairs were a bit of a challenge. Also--it would have been nice to have a small refrigerator and microwave in our room.
