Very Good
The location, the amenities in the apartment and ability to rent bikes from the Wittenberg was wonderful. The apartment was spacious
The rooms initially weren't very clean - there was hair on the counters and in the shower, the couch had a stain, the tables were sticky. We had to ask 3 times before there was a proper cleaning, but the staff did ultimately rectify the situation. The only other problem is that the kitchen sink was backing up from someone else's apartment. We asked multiple times for someone to come look at it and no one came. We didn't need the sink that much, so it wasn't a big deal, but we didn't feel like asking multiple times was not ideal if we had needed the sink.

Good
Quiet neighborhood, close to public transport facilities
The additional VAT of €359.00 that I had to pay at check-in due to the increase the tax rate by government. This was never communicated to me at all . This is unfair to the budget traveler .

Exceptional
Great location, nice coworking-style space to get some work done, and friendly staff.
Not enough basic supplies for a longer stay - only one-time coffee/tea and limited dishwasher and laundry tablets, plus too few dishes; staff helped with some items on request, but it was still inconvenient.

Very clean. Excellent location
Things you need to know before booking: In the 2 bedroom unit, the only bathroom is located inside one of the bedrooms. The other bedroom is located upstairs with dangerously steep staircase. The shower/tub is slippery and there are no grab bars or rubber bath mats

Good
Beautiful space and great location. The area around the Wittenberg is quiet, but active, with a beautiful little park by the canal nearby. We enjoyed the coworking space as well.
The apartment could have been cleaner as the window sill in the kitchen was dirty, there was still hair in the shower and the bathroom floor was dirty. The biggest issue though was that the kitchen was not at all well-equipped. It is easier to list what was there- one single medium sized pot with lid, one single pan, a cheese grater, a (dull) chef's knife and cooking utensils (wooden spoons, etc). There was nothing to serve food, nothing with which to bake or roast food in the oven (no sheet pans, casseroles, oven mitts, etc). I asked for large and small pots (for pasta and sauce) and a cutting board. I was told by reception that those things were not provided. After some push back they agreed to providing a cutting board, saying that it should already be there. The lack of kitchen equipment made meals for a family of four difficult. Keep in mind, we had a 3 bedroom apartment, so it should be expected that there would be multiple people to cook for. You will need to purchase all the basics, including salt and pepper, cooking oil, paper towels and napkins. There was a dual washer/dryer, but the dryer did not work. The laundry facilities on site that were advertised were out of service (room was completely empty). There was routine drainage work scheduled on our side of the building that started around 7am on Saturday morning. By 9 am, we got up to the sound of Gangster's Paradise on the workers' radio.

Place was clean. staff were friendly. Quiet
They lied about the bed. They said it was a King size bed. It measured as a Queen size bed. When we complained they gave us some bullshit about it being a UK king size. Amsterdam is in the EU it should be a standard EU size king. Then they offered to move a cot into the room for an outrageous €55 per night extra. Very unhappy about this. No washing machine in unit.

Loved all of the space and the two beds for the kids. The kitchen was sufficient, the windows were nice and large, the furnishings were comfortable and it is a pretty building. Would love to know more about the history of the place.
The towels are scratchy and there were not a lot of restaurants close that we were interested in. The second bathroom didn’t have a full shower but rather a handheld sprayer.

It was 4-15 Celsius outside but in our room when it was sunny, it was 25-28 with no way to cool it down outside of the fans in the room. Maintenance came and cracked open a window but it was still rather warm

Great location. Nestled near the university and residential it was quiet with good options for easy bites or full meals. Access the public transportation was easy with options for metro or tram. Close to the city center and just two stops via metro from Amsterdam Central.
Gym was extremely small so probably wouldn’t go there expecting much.

Very Poor
BED SHEETS LOT OF DIRTY AND TORN INCOMPLETE COOKING EQUIPMENT HEATER OFF AT NIGHT FROM 11pm UNTILL 7am. WHOLE LIVING TEMPERATURE AT 15degrees.
I had a very disappointing experience during my stay booked through Booking.com. I was assigned a basement room with two bedrooms, where there was a very loud water pump noise every time the tap was used, and the heater did not work properly. When I checked in at 2:00 PM, the room temperature was 18°C. I reported the issue, but the receptionist assured me it would improve. Unfortunately, by 8:00 PM the temperature dropped to 15°C, and during the night it went down to under 15°C. the staff on the first night was polite and helpful, the overall handling of this situation I complained and was informed that I could only change rooms the next day. I accepted this and stayed the first night under very uncomfortable and cold conditions. The next morning, I spoke with a morning staff member named Hasan. I was very disappointed with his attitude, as he repeatedly tried to convince and fooling me that all rooms in the hotel had the same issue and even claimed that my room was the best one available. I was also told that changing rooms maybe require an additional fee of 100 euros. Eventually, I was given another room, but with one complimentary cleaning service was removed, despite my 9-night stay. This room clearly has maintenance issues, yet it continues to be rented out. In the following days, when waiting at lobby I even heard twice that there were other guests complaining about the same room and request for change.

Wonderful
We liked the location, the proximity to sites, restaurants, shops and to public transportation (trams, metro). The building itself is very nice (several buildings, actually), and the apartment was lovely and spacious, really great to give us all enough personal space when needed. The huge windows were a real bonus, bringing in lots of light. The furniture is nice and modern, and there are three televisions! The staff were helpful and friendly. On the whole, this was a very positive experience and we can recommend the Wittenberg wholeheartedly.
The kitchen was not as well equipped as one would expect: needed were paper towels, a cloth towel, a dish rack, more plates and cutlery, more tea bags and sugar, and maybe even some salt and pepper. Short term visitors do not expect to buy these basics--especially as this is not a budget hotel... A small thing: upon leaving for the airport, I noticed there are many hotel bikes parked outside the lobby. It would have been nice to be made aware of these upon arrival, so that we could take advantage of this. Also, having to ask for toilet paper a couple of times from the front desk people was a bit awkward (stayed a week). But these are all very minor issues that did not spoil our very good experience at this hotel!
