Good location, nice lobby and cafe at the ground level
Small rooms for the price, unhelpful staff when we wanted to extend our stay, chilly rooms with A/C limit of only 24C, poor room amenities. Much better value at the TSH across the street.

This is my favourite hotel in Amsterdam! Great ambience and excellent atmosphere and energy.
Breakfast is decent. It could be better. But it was good enough. And the lobby has a great restaurant.

Arrived earlier than check-in and the the friendly staff informed me I could already check in and had been upgraded to a larger room for half of the nights I booked. The location is very convenient to metro station and nearby grocery store. My young children loved the room with the tatami beds. Staff are very helpful and attentive.
Room on lower level facing the street was a bit loud with vibrations from below. No take-away from the restaurants in the hotel, although they allow the food to be taken into the rooms with provided utensils and trays.

Fantastic location! Fabulous facilities, good shower, hot tubs in the roof and a sauna, bustling cafe bar downstairs. It was nice to be surrounded by working professionals, it just felt like we were in the right place. Plus there’s events on! Would definitely stay again!
The only thing I would say (which is minuscule) was that the bathroom didn’t have a door haha! It was a chain curtain so we had to banish the man also staying with us to the other side of the room whilst we showered haha! It was very novel and stylish though and actually was a funny memory!

Great location right by the metro. Hotel has a very cool chilled out vibe. There was a vinyl market on when we got there which husband loved! Really spacious room with comfy beds and kids loved the high beds!
Air con was a bit noisy.

The Volkshotel has a quirky, funky interior. There is a retro design theme, which works really well. The rooms are simple, but functional and perfectly suited to people who don’t want to sit around a hotel room all day, but need a good nights sleep ready to explore Amsterdam. We really enjoyed our stay here as there was lots going on in the hotel.
The food in the restaurant was limited. We had children in the group, so a wider menu choice would have been better. That said, the food we had was lovely and there are plenty of other options available locally.

Literally nothing. The worst by far. They did allow me to shorten my stay from 4 nights to 1 but that is it!
The value, the location, the staff, the room, literally everything was appalling. My room was minuscule and was over priced. The lock failed so I was locked outside of it. I am an architect and know design and it is ugly and dated, but the worst by far is how poorly my daughter and I were treated. I felt I was being mocked. Strange for a city full of wonderful people.
Believe me I never leave a bad review (why hurt a business?) but I feel compelled to warn others. Fortunately I was able to book another place in the heart of the city last minute for cheaper with larger, cleaner and better rooms and a really nice staff. Yikes!!!
