Wonderful
Great place, best value for money - and the best thing is that the Metro station is literally 1 minute away from the hotel.
Could be cleaner, Wifi wasn't great as well. Also the cabin was really small, if 2 people stand in the room you can't really move - but we managed that.

Exceptional
It had the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen on a facility! Also very queer friendly but maybe that's just Amsterdam.

Very Poor
Literally nothing. The worst by far. They did allow me to shorten my stay from 4 nights to 1 but that is it!
The value, the location, the staff, the room, literally everything was appalling. My room was minuscule and was over priced. The lock failed so I was locked outside of it. I am an architect and know design and it is ugly and dated, but the worst by far is how poorly my daughter and I were treated. I felt I was being mocked. Strange for a city full of wonderful people.
Believe me I never leave a bad review (why hurt a business?) but I feel compelled to warn others. Fortunately I was able to book another place in the heart of the city last minute for cheaper with larger, cleaner and better rooms and a really nice staff. Yikes!!!

Wonderful
The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. The room was visually pleasing. The top floor restaurant serves very good food at a reasonable price, offers interesting views of the city. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The proximity to the Metro is a bonus.
There was nowhere to put an open suitcase, except on the floor or the bed. The blinds were stationary and let in early morning sunlight (eeck!)

Wonderful
I really appreciated how kind and accommodating the staff was. They let you store your luggage for free, have so many events to participate in (if that's what you're interested in), and they give you many recommendations for the city. My sister and I fit comfortably in our room and we really enjoyed the sunlight and comfy bed. I would stay here again next time I visit Amsterdam!
The bathroom shower could have been cleaner!

Good
That I booked a sleep cabin by mistake instead of a regular room so it was a little too tiny for us

Very Good
Volkshotel Amsterdam was a great place for our family of four. While it has more of a hostel-style, youthful vibe, it still suited us very well. The room was comfortable and clean, and overall we had a very pleasant stay. The lighting in the room could be improved, but it didn’t take away from our experience. Breakfast was good, and we would happily stay here again.
Not enough light

Very Good
Buzzy, lively, youthful atmosphere in the public areas with minimalist, modern, comfy rooms.
Large hotel with many rooms, including many families with children. Quality/taste of the coffee.

Lively hotel integrated with co-working space. Quiet and affordable place to sleep, clean showers, great wifi, and rooftop with hot tubs. Easy to rent a bike and get around the city.

Poor
Good location, nice lobby and cafe at the ground level
Small rooms for the price, unhelpful staff when we wanted to extend our stay, chilly rooms with A/C limit of only 24C, poor room amenities. Much better value at the TSH across the street.

Wonderful
Arrived earlier than check-in and the the friendly staff informed me I could already check in and had been upgraded to a larger room for half of the nights I booked. The location is very convenient to metro station and nearby grocery store. My young children loved the room with the tatami beds. Staff are very helpful and attentive.
Room on lower level facing the street was a bit loud with vibrations from below. No take-away from the restaurants in the hotel, although they allow the food to be taken into the rooms with provided utensils and trays.

Especially liked the vibe in the Workplaats in the evenings. Great young energy. Also the decor: minimalism meets thrift shop chic.
It would've been nice to haev a chair in the room
