Unfortunately, our experience at this hotel was very disappointing because of the terrible noise at night. We stayed for two nights, and on both nights it was almost impossible to sleep.
What makes this even more frustrating is that, before our arrival, the hotel offered us a paid upgrade to a higher-floor room with a street view. Naturally, when you pay extra for an upgrade, you expect a better experience. Instead, we ended up in a room where the street noise was so loud that we could not sleep properly.
On the first night, I actually thought the housekeeping staff had left the windows open because the noise from outside was so loud. I checked them, but the windows were completely closed. The old wooden street-facing windows provide practically no sound insulation at all. The noise continued until around 3 a.m.
What I find unacceptable is that the hotel actively sells these street-facing rooms as a paid upgrade without warning guests about the extremely poor sound insulation and the level of nighttime noise.
Guests should be clearly informed at reception: “Our street-facing rooms can be very noisy at night due to the old windows. Would you prefer a quieter room facing the courtyard?” We were never given this information or this choice.
For a hotel in this price category, this simply should not happen. Paying extra for an “upgrade” and then being unable to sleep properly for two nights is extremely disappointing. Whatever other amenities a hotel offers, being able to sleep at night is surely the most basic requirement.

Excellent location directly opposite Amsterdam Centraal, which made getting around the city incredibly easy. The hotel was comfortable, the staff were friendly, and overall we had a really enjoyable stay.
The room allocation was the only real disappointment. Our Booking.com confirmation showed a Superior Double or Twin Room with 1 large double bed, and I had also contacted the hotel in advance to request a large double/king bed. After a specific room request was declined, which was sent to me directly from the hotel.. I asked if possible for a quieter room away from the station with a canal or old city view, and was advised that these preferences had been noted. It was therefore disappointing to arrive and be allocated two single beds and a room with no view. I appreciate that some room requests are subject to availability, but given the booking confirmation and the pre-arrival communication, this did fall short of expectations.

They gave us the worst possible room, right across from a busy restaurant/bar. The whole night it was so loud. Couldn’t sleep. Plus beds are very uncomfortable. Don’t know if Booking.com gets the cheapest worst rooms in hotels, but I think I’m done with booking.com
