The location and the funky design. I also liked the coffee machine in the reception which also sold fresh croissants. The staff were pleasant, friendly and efficient.
Stingy facilities. For example, there was no welcome tray, or selection of teas and coffees -- there was just an old kettle and coffee machine that didn't come with instructions. I worked them out. The shower was weak and the heat just about acceptable. It was push button (there is a note on the bathroom mirror that has a QR code which you need to have a smart phone to access the shower instructions. I did this following the YouTube demo, but you can only adjust the 38 degree heating by one digit to 39. I like my showers hotter and more powerful -- the deluge option rained down drizzle, rather than a deluge. I came out of the shower cold and there are no towelling robes available to wrap yourself in. I was in a Superior Double Room -- you'd of thought! You also couldn't turn the heating up much in the bedroom. You had to request the cleaner to come in -- which meant a trip to reception as no phone or tech link in the room.
The fitness and wellness centre which boasted a sauna and steam room was shut when I wanted to use it -- a note on the door says it only opens at 3pm if you request it at reception. Although I'd booked the room on a refundable basis of €359.15 including VAT and City Tax, the government hiked the VAT tax on short term stays from 9pct to 21pct this year, making guests pay an extra 33pct of the cost of their stay in tax. The second thing after good afternoon that the receptionist said was could I please settle the outstanding tax of euros 72.
I can't see myself going to Amsterdam or Holland again if these extortionate taxes and stingy hospitality facilities persist. The excuse with the tepid water, lack of cleaning, switched off sauna was conserving energy. Well, in future I will conserve my own energy by going to a cheaper, more luxurious place. The staff, were nice, though. Hurrah for the young people who actually have to run the place while management penny pinches.

The atmosphere in the breakfast area is a bit cantine like. Breakfast is good, but when it is busy you are seated in the back what seems to be used normally as a conference room

Only 1 chair in the room. There is a low to the ground seating area near the window. Nice but too low for elderly guests.

Location: Jaz in the City is conveniently located close to the arena and just a few minutes’ walk from Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena. The location is ideal for events or concerts, with easy access to public transport and nearby amenities.
Room: Very spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room to relax.
Staff: The staff were great—friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
Shower: We had a hard time adjusting the water temperature. It took some effort to find the right way to press the buttons to get the balance between hot and cold.

Nicely decorated rooms, simple check in process.
Offer late check out request in hourly increments but was told we had to pay a flat fee of €60 to pay for another night although we only wanted to check out a couple of hours later. The nice girl on reception tried to waive the fee but her manager said it was not allowed and we had to pay the full charge.

Disappointing
From the moment we entered, We were greeted by a receptionist who wasn’t the friendliest. Whilst checking in we had to pay “City-tax” which was never mentioned on Booking.com. It was €100 for two people for 5 nights. Which I found to be extremely expensive seeing as on our booking it stated all taxes included in the price. Our hotel room wasn’t the cleanest and there was a lot of hair on the bed (not ours) the TV screen mirroring didn’t work during our stay in the hotel which was an extreme let down. Seeing that there was only a handful of channels in English all which were irrelevant. We called the front desk to enquire about this for them to tell us that IT was aware of it and was trying to fix it. It was never addressed or fixed during our stay yet we were still charged for everything. The food in the restaurant was very expensive and did not taste great. €5 for a can of red bull? Ridiculous.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend staying in this hotel. There is much better hotels in Amsterdam for better value and cleanliness.
