Great location just down the road from the park and city center, tram stops and close to museums. The Vondel apartment was perfect for traveling with kids, beautiful historic building, and we loved having use of our own laundry in the apartment.

The lift broke down several times and moving luggage along the VERY steep stairways was tricky.

The location was excellent and breakfast options were good but re used some uneaten items so they were looking tired by the last day. The room was comfortable.
Staff attentiveness was just ok. For the amount you pay the expectation was a not met. Front desk smoking out on the back balcony was not a good look.

Good location, nice hot water pressure, strong AC, and clean overall. It was a comfortable stay.
I would say this hotel is just okay, not exceptional (esp for the price — it was particularly high during my visit in early August). Rooms are a bit difficult to navigate due to the unique layout of the building and narrow hallways, and it was hard to initially find the elevator. Upon checkin the staff did not offer to help with luggage, so just keep that in mind if you’re bringing heavy suitcases. Also no room slippers provided (not a big deal, but an amenity I look for in any hotel).

The location was great, near museums and at the shore of the central rings of channels in Amsterdam (just a few metters outside the busiest part of the city). It was quiet and safe. Breakfast was very good, and so were the renovated rooms. We found a triple room quite spacious for Amsterdam standards. Shower was great, too.
It is worthy to mention that we had a problem with our room in the fourth night of our stay. It happened a little after 10 p.m. The staff at the reception took immediate action to find a temporary solution, and the manager the next morning was fully aware of the situtation and arranged a permanent solution to accomodate our family.
To me, that shows a few important things about the Catalonia Hotel chain. First, staff has autonomy to solve unexpected issues. Second, they did it properly, which shows great training standards. Finally, they are commited, in the first place, to guests' satisfaction. As consumers we would probably expect it from any business, but the reality is far from that. Catalonia Vogel Amsterdam stood out when the moment came, and just because of that attitude (not forgetting all other positive aspects) I can totally recommend it to other guests.
As we were in Amsterdam during a heat wave, some complimentary bottles of water would have been appreciated. Just a minor remark which doesn't change our positive appreciation of the hotel. Nothing to complain, really.

The location is great. Not too busy but still close to everything.
This hotel definitely does not deserve a 4-star rating:
1. The room was extremely small, with barely enough space to fit our luggage.
2. The elevator is far too small.
3. The property is not accessible at all. There are numerous stairs at the main entrance to the lobby and throughout the corridors leading to the rooms.

Toilet roll holder in room 436 fell of the wall needs replacing. Great that in room coffee machine had decaf pods but no milk was supplied in the room. Upon request Bar staff did give us a little jug of milk. Reception staff Tim and Pablo are very helpful. Victor the Porter was very helpful and cheerful. Location of hotel is excellent.
Room 436 toilet roll holder needs fixing. Also leave space in the fridge for our milk and our items. No need for mini bar fridge to be stuff full. Also Pringle do not need to be refrigerated.

Fabulous value to stay traditional block. Got an upgrade which was extremely welcome.
I’m claustrophobic so can’t do the one man lift that creeps past the brick between floors but got great exercise climbing stairs to 4th floor.

Disappointing
It was well located
We booked the property about 12 months before we stayed. A week before we stayed we realised that the prices were hundreds of Australian dollars cheaper on the booking.com site. The price of a suite was cheaper than our superior twin room.
Booking.com despite our request for them to honour their price match guarantee ghosted us! It has been a week now since we checked in and booking.com have still not given me an explanation.
We approached hotel management but they lied to us about a possible upgrade and essentially did not care.
Despite this the hotel is old and run down and not very comfortable
