The lighting in the room could have been brighter

The rooms are very dark but this wasn’t a big issue.

My only comment would be that our room could use additional lighting.

It was top notch. If you need something, you ask for it and they take care of it. Wifi was not great but it worked most of the time.

We stayed at Die Port van Cleve in Amsterdam this past weekend and were really disappointed with our experience, especially considering the price and the hotel’s reputation. When we arrived late on Friday evening, we discovered that the toilet cistern was broken and wouldn’t stop running. I went to reception, and a gentleman came down to the room, banged on the flush a few times, and declared it fixed — but it definitely wasn’t. The noise continued all night. The next morning, I reported it again to reception, and they said maintenance would take a look while we were out. When we returned later, we were told it had been fixed, but that wasn’t the case. We also decided to use the bath in the room, which we were looking forward to as we currently can’t use ours at home. Unfortunately, when we filled it, dirty water and scum came up from the plug and release, leaving the bath unusable. I reported this to reception again, and they offered to move us, but only after 2 p.m. — which wasn’t practical as we had plans for the day. They said they would investigate and left us in the same room. That evening, the toilet cistern broke again. When we called reception, another staff member came and did the same thing — banged it a few times — and told us, “If it happens again, just bang it like this.” When I pointed out that I shouldn’t have to do that, he laughed and said it was the only way to stop it. The water ended up running all night, and we barely slept. When we checked out, the hotel offered us a free drink in the bar as compensation, which felt inadequate given the inconvenience and lack of proper maintenance. We travel frequently and stay in many beautiful hotels, but this stay really did not meet expectations. The room issues, lack of genuine repair, and minimal compensation made it feel far from worth the money. Sadly, we wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it to others.
