Wonderful
Lobby has nice seating areas 24/7. Air con worked well mid Sept. very easy to get extra coffees for the room from the maid’s cart. Umbrellas available to borrow if you ask the FD. The remodel/construction did not disturb us.
since check in is at 3pm we had to pay 25€ to get in it early even though it WAS ready when we arrived at 12:30

The staff were very kind and friendly and the hotel was lovely, clean and comfortable. We were very close to everything we wanted to see so we’re very pleased with the location.
The twin mattress wanted to slide off the bed, but this wasn’t a huge problem.

Very centric and well located to explore further around. Rooms are nice, clean and quite. Personnel was very professional and helpful. Side restaurant and pub are a highly recommended plus.
For some reason, beds had two matresses, one on top of another, plus a topper. Overall too high to get into the bed and too unstable, causing a dangerous fall during the first night. Got assorted next day.

Excellent location very close to the centre. The staff were very helpful in recommending restaurants. Easy to find. We stayed three nights and would come back.
Nothing I didn’t like.

The location is fabulous with the tram almost directly in front of the hotel. Some of the concierge and check in folks are very nice - especially Arcan!
Loved the Bouillon restaurant - excellent food at decent prices.
Our bathroom smelling horrible that we couldn’t even go in to it. We got assistance to have it sprayed and it was better. The lighting in the room is quite poor.

Great location! Hotel staff was all very nice and helpful. We felt very comfortable here.
Our room had a very bad smell - almost like a mold or mildew issue that made our luggage smell when we left. I don’t know if this was just an issue with our room but it was very noticeable. I would also not recommend the French restaurant in the lobby - they were very rude and rushed us off of our table and service was bad.

Perfectly situated right behind Dam Square—within easy walking distance for everything in the city. Hotel had good facilities—spacious, clean, and friendly enough staff. Rooms serviced every day.

Poor
Hotel is adequate, nothing special. Staff was good but in the end, management was a huge disappointment.
My wife and I are long-time, highly experienced travelers. We have been to Amsterdam at least two dozen times over many years and have always had excellent luck with lodging. This trip, we booked a 4-night stay at Die Port van Cleve for the first time, paying in advance on Booking.com. We checked in about 11:30am on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, were charged an extra 25 euros for early check in and were scheduled to depart on Saturday, August 15. On Wednesday morning, which was still 3 full days before our scheduled departure, I asked the front desk to shorten our stay by one night, meaning we would depart on Friday rather than Saturday. When Syrel, who was very kind, contacted the hotel "reservation department" they said no, we would not receive a refund for the final, unused night. I called Booking.com to enlist their help and they, too, were very kind. The agent called the hotel while I was on hold to stress that we were long-time customers and our request was minimal—we would merely be staying for 3 nights rather than 4. The "reservation department" wouldn't budge. We checked out on Friday anyway and are now out $275 for the last night. Nearly two weeks later, after appealing to the hotel manager, this is the response I rec'd.
"Your reservation was made through Booking.com on a prepaid rate. Unfortunately, the conditions attached to this rate do not provide for a refund when a stay is shortened after arrival." He went on to blame it on the staff saying he was "sorry (for) the way this was communicated" but his explanation is nonsense. Staff was helpful. Booking.com was helpful. He could issue a refund with the click of a mouse. It was his decision and his alone.
Considering the small ask I was making, I feel the way the hotel manager treated us was outrageous. I travel a lot and am accustomed to better service. Is business so bad they have to shake down their customers for a lousy $275?

Very Poor
I liked very little about this hotel, only the location.
Towels were paper thin, rooms were small, even by European standards, lighting was terrible, couldn't read a book, bathroom was constantly damp due to poor ventilation, furnishings cheap for a 4 star hotel, not even a headboard for the bed. But the worst was their check-in blackmail policy. Official check in time was 3:30 pm. If you were there earlier, they wouldn't allow you to access your room, without paying an additional 150 to 25 euros extra, depending on how early you were there, even if your assigned room was vacated, cleaned and ready, they wouldn't give you your key before 3:30 pm, unless you paid an extra "convenience fee." I call it an "extortion fee." I stay in hotels 4 months each year and this is the only hotel to extort this fee. Terrible policy. They should be ashamed and embarrassed.

The property was great. Excellent location. The best part was the staff.
She was SO warm and welcoming. She made our experience that much better. Having wine on the rooftop was an amazing surprise. We already wish to return.
There was nothing we didn’t like.

Wonderful
Well located for exploring and for restaurants.
Pillows were extremely soft and offered no real support. There was a used contact lens in the corner of the bathroom floor.
Bonus is that it's round the corner from Canela
