I found the pillows too stiff and unyielding. I asked for a flatter pillow, which the staff gladly provided, but it had exactly the same issue! This is a matter of personal preference, so some people may prefer this

This hotel is 10/10 with excellent warm and frendly staff. The location is super excellent. A special shout out to Ambre for the free upgrade. The rooms are huge. Even the standard Deluxe double rooms which was ocuupied by my family are big. I would without hesitation recommend this hotel.
I liked everything. Only one small issue. the carpet needed better cleaning. papers on carpet in passages. But this could be the occupiers of the hotel. but hotel still 10/10

We absolutely loved our stay at the Clayton Hotel American in Amsterdam. The combination of beautifully modern, stylishly decorated rooms with the hotel’s classic and iconic exterior architecture creates a really special experience. Our kids especially enjoyed the snacks and the relaxed, lively vibe of the bar, which made the hotel feel welcoming for the whole family. The main restaurant area is wonderfully cosy and inviting, with large windows that allow you to soak up the authentic Amsterdam street atmosphere while enjoying a meal or coffee. The location is spot-on — surrounded by vibey streets and great shops, yet not too busy or overwhelming. It’s the perfect balance for exploring the city while still having a comfortable, calm place to return to. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended for anyone looking for character, comfort, and a great location in Amsterdam.
Not really a negative, but the hotel feels very much in line with a solid four-star experience rather than exceeding it. A late-afternoon or early-evening room refresh would add a more luxurious touch. There is also a slightly corporate feel in the rooms, although the décor is thoughtfully planned and very well executed. The vibe in the bar and restaurant however makes up for this! Overall, still an iconic stay.
