The hotel is in a magnificent historic art deco building that was built for the HQ of six shipping companies. It’s quite a conversion, in the old part of the hotel, where we were, the room was bit dated in that bits of the wood was chipped, windows don’t open and there is no AC. There is a central climate control but the room was quite hot at times. The room was large and decorated in accordance with its period. The longer we stayed at the hotel the more we appreciated its artistry.
Secondly the location is superb, an easy walk with luggage to and from the central station, and an easy walk into heart of the city. Buses are the metro area also right there.
The chips on the woodwork, which would not have been too costly to fix. If they could fix the windows to open that would have been nice. However windows in historic buildings are regulated.

Historical character and a great location
The service was intermittent; we left the room in the morning and returned at 4pm and had not had any cleaning or even refreshing of the towels. Also, the second night of our stay, the a/c completely stopped working in the middle of the night.

The staff were extremely helpful and polite. The hotel was a dream to stay in with so much I interesting history. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Amsterdam
