Poor
I like that the property was close to central station and looks pretty from the outside.
The room was not very clean. The furniture smelled really old, almost like a body odor smell. I got nose-blind to it after the first night but it lingered when I get close to the furniture, including the headboard. The carpet must be original because it looked very dingy. The coffee machine, cups, and silverware were dusty. Even after the second day, the new glass I got was dusty. Looks to have been used for a really long time. The hose keeping was half-assed, for the most part, I think they just re-done the bed and stock some items (some nights, they miss some items). The last night, they only definitely did the bed. I had multiple mosquitos in my room, and got a bug bite while taking a nap on the first day I was there. I don’t usually like to complain about this, but I paid a lot of money to stay at a “5-star” hotel. But it felt like I was in a 2-star hotel. I had better service at lower rated hotel at cheaper prices during my trip. The pool was not working, which I was really excited about because it looked pretty in the photos. And I wanted to relax since this stay was at the end of my trip.

Disappointing
Historical character and a great location
The service was intermittent; we left the room in the morning and returned at 4pm and had not had any cleaning or even refreshing of the towels. Also, the second night of our stay, the a/c completely stopped working in the middle of the night.

Wonderful
The history and design of the building is absolutely incredible. I felt like I was staying in a museum. No expense was spared when this shipping house was built and they have taken great care of the unique designs and architecture. The staff was patient and helpful through out our experience. We loved the look and gothic vibe from the hotel. We would definitely stay again and recommend this to our more occult friends.
There are some interesting attributes because the building is old. The shower drain was not able to handle the amount of water coming from the various shower heads so the first day we flooded the bathroom. Once we learned how to use this it was easier to manage. The light switch card system was confusing at first and we thought a ghost was taking our light card. Turns out the cleaning service removes the card when they come to clean. Also, there is no AC but once we were informed that some windows open, it cooled it down enough to sleep. There is also a lack of plugs in convenient places so we had to get creative with the tea kettle and phone chargers.

Disappointing
The hotel is clean and the staff is good
This is the first 5 star hotel I have been to without AC. Ridiculous to have to sleep in over 30 degrees. Even after the weather cooled down it still hot inside because most windows don't open. The hotel is fine, don't get me wrong. but the facilities is no where near 5 star standard.

Loved the room and the breakfast. Location was perfect too. The building is historic and has a lot of charm.
The spa was being renovated - this was disappointing as I was looking forward to using it. It was a consideration when booking and there was no warning about that.

We stayed there 4days last month of July. The property was located near by the Central terminal. The staff are very accommodating and friendly also they’re very much helpful they provide us with room near by the canal view although I just request it when I’m already there . It’s my birthday week and they made my bday special by providing my request. We ate breakfast , which was not included in our booking ,so we pay €85 I think for 3persons on my bday breakfast. The foods were delicious, you can have a variety of foods and drinks. We tried also one night at the bar to watch the soccer game. The staff also give us recommendations to see some of museum and some restaurant to dine out. At the first day we find it difficult to find the elevator, the hotel was like a maze puzzle but it’s beautiful and clean. Our room was bigger and clean . They provide you water, soda and the bathroom accessories including sleepers and bathrobes. There’s also locker, small ref, iron, hair dryer. Bring your own international socket plug. Our room don’t have the usb socket where I can charge my phone. We forgot to bring my international travel adapter it’s good my friend have it so she lend it to us and charge our phone. The pool and sauna was not open they renovate/fixing it so we allowed to go to Victoria hotel for a swim and sauna just show your room card. We will stay here next time again.????

The room was spacious and had a very comfortable bed.
The breakfast service was very disappointing. There was a tall blond staff member who ignored me on two occasions. The first time, I tried to ask for help finding a table instead of wandering around the breakfast area looking for a place to sit, but he completely ignored me. The second time, there were no coffee cups available at the coffee machine, and once again he ignored my request. I eventually had to speak to him more firmly and point out that he had ignored me twice, asking him to please bring more cups. I was polite and respectful throughout, and I expect the same level of courtesy and professionalism from the staff. His attitude came across as arrogant and unwelcoming, which unfortunately had a negative impact on my experience. Room was difficult to find the room because the hotel layout felt like a maze.

The room looked brand new for such a historic property, with all modern comforts and conveniences. Everything was spotless. The hotel was incredibly conveniently located to the central Station and the points of interest.

Poor
Impressive historic building in central location by train station on a canal. I give 2 stars out of 10 for the location.
I checked in on 26 July and left the next morning. In a single night, I got a masterclass in everything a five-star hotel can quietly get wrong while still charging five-star prices. Made to wait at check-in, I was pointed toward the bar, where another guest had his sock-clad feet sprawled across a table in full view of the room. Staff walked past more than once. Nobody blinked. Room 318, billed as a "deluxe double," had ceilings low enough that I could rest my palm flat against them, and a window facing a narrow white shaft. The website promises soaring ceilings and generous light. What I'd actually looked forward to was an evening of swimming and steam. Downstairs, the pool was drained and taped off, the jacuzzi also sealed like a small crime scene, and the steam room shut. I didn't find comms by Booking.com mentioning this. The hotel's own website still shows a spa glowing with inviting, entirely fictional water. No one tells you at check in. A young manager later explained why none of this comes up at check-in: under an arrangement with the nearby Victoria Hotel, only a capped number of Amrath guests are permitted to use its spa each day. Rather than disclose the closure upfront at check-in and risk more requests than that cap allows, the hotel says nothing — and only offers the workaround to guests who complain. By the time I hoped to end the day with a hot shower, nothing worked there either. No hot water! I reported it that night and again the next morning and was told someone would come. I returned an hour later to find the shower exactly as I'd left it. Cold, untouched. I raised each issue as it happened. At check out, I wasn't offered a reduction, just a card inviting me to complain for some after-the-fact goodwill gesture. Is this hotel badly run or just betting guests won't bother complaining? I am grateful that other 5-star hotels haven't made me ask that question.

Beautiful historic building with great location. Nice staff. Clean
Pool was under repair so we had to go for another hotel for that. The parking was very expensive- remember to ask for prices before booking. All in all a very expensive stay and I didn’t feel they 100 pct meet the expectations of that price.
