Beautiful hotel and great facilities. Comfortable with an unbeatable location. The hotel is an art deco masterpiece, updated and clean. Reception staff were welcoming and provided early check in and room upgrade. In a word excellent

No way it’s a 5* hotel. Desperately shabby everywhere, rooms are pretty smelly and in need of an upgrade. Very noisy to sleep with loads of big doors constantly slamming

Disappointing
Location was great.
There was no lounge or comfortable area to sit apart from the rooms.
The breakfasts were ridiculously expensive so we ate out.
The interior of the hotel was extremely gloomy and in need of a complete refurbishment. We chose the hotel as we were bringing grandchildren and it had a pool, but on arrival, were told by the staff that it was unavailable. We could use a nearby pool at another hotel but it was a 15 minute walk away not 'across the road'.
The bar area was uncomfortable. Hard chairs and sticky tables.
The staff were totally indifferent to our concerns.

The location and room
1. The staff making us pay for one breakfast on both days due to a typo from Booking.com
They could clearly see the same rate was given for all three rooms we booked for the two nights, same room type for all 3 rooms, 2 guests were registered per room but on one of the rooms, there was 1 Breaky included instead of two. They would not budge in this type error from you. It upset us all.
2. Our room not being ready until after 5pm when then we’re guaranteed for 3pm. We then asked for a free upgrade to another room and all they would offer is a downgrade to two beds instead of the king we reserved and putting us on the ground floor instead of the 4th.
3. They advertised the pool and hot tub would not be available but said the steam room would be but it was also closed. No facilities unless we went to another hotel to use theirs.
Just very disappointed with their unwillingness to accommodate us. Horrible customer service.

The location is brilliant, the room was comfortable and the building itself is extraordinary. It is a complete maze, apparently because it once housed six different companies, but finding our room became part of the adventure.
Unfortunately, the hotel appears to be run like Fawlty Towers.
I ordered an Armagnac and a Baileys in the bar. The waiter read the order back as Armagnac and Malibu. I corrected him. He said he understood, then immediately told the bartender I wanted Malibu. I called over and corrected them both. They said they understood. The bartender then reached for the Malibu bottle. By this point, getting two drinks had become unexpectedly exhausting.
The milk saga was similar. There was none in the room, making both the kettle and coffee machine rather decorative. We told reception in the morning. They apologised profusely and promised to send milk to the room. When we returned late that evening, there was still no milk. I rang reception and, rather than apologising, the person I spoke to became quite cross that I was even suggesting the hotel should provide “free milk”. He told me it was hotel policy not to provide milk in rooms, although we could buy a glass from the restaurant. Unfortunately, the restaurant was now closed. Had reception told us this that morning, instead of promising to deliver it, we could simply have bought some while we were out. So, no tea or coffee for either of our two nights.
Then came the bill. The hotel had already taken a deposit of more than half the total cost. At checkout, I was specifically asked whether I wanted to pay just the balance on the same card or pay the whole bill again on a different card and have the deposit refunded. I chose the balance. They charged me the full amount anyway.
When I contacted the hotel, I was told to “be patient” as refunds take “from a few hours to a few days”. That was two weeks ago. There is still no refund, I am still chasing, and I am now having to dispute the charge through my credit-card company.
A fabulous location and an iconic building, but behind the grand exterior lies absolute chaos.

Hotel was great! Very luxurious, I wish I had more than one night to stay! The pool/jacuzzi weren’t working and I didn’t try the sauna, but the location was great. Easy walk from train, the room was spacious and loved all of the history of the place. Staff was 10/10. Location was also great, easy walk from train, but easy to walk further into the city. Umbrellas easy access if it rains, 10/10 recommend and will stay again.
