Fair
The room was spacious and had a very comfortable bed.
The breakfast service was very disappointing. There was a tall blond staff member who ignored me on two occasions. The first time, I tried to ask for help finding a table instead of wandering around the breakfast area looking for a place to sit, but he completely ignored me. The second time, there were no coffee cups available at the coffee machine, and once again he ignored my request.
I eventually had to speak to him more firmly and point out that he had ignored me twice, asking him to please bring more cups. I was polite and respectful throughout, and I expect the same level of courtesy and professionalism from the staff. His attitude came across as arrogant and unwelcoming, which unfortunately had a negative impact on my experience. Room was difficult to find the room because the hotel layout felt like a maze.

Disappointing
The location and room
1. The staff making us pay for one breakfast on both days due to a typo from Booking.com
They could clearly see the same rate was given for all three rooms we booked for the two nights, same room type for all 3 rooms, 2 guests were registered per room but on one of the rooms, there was 1 Breaky included instead of two. They would not budge in this type error from you. It upset us all.
2. Our room not being ready until after 5pm when then we’re guaranteed for 3pm. We then asked for a free upgrade to another room and all they would offer is a downgrade to two beds instead of the king we reserved and putting us on the ground floor instead of the 4th.
3. They advertised the pool and hot tub would not be available but said the steam room would be but it was also closed. No facilities unless we went to another hotel to use theirs.
Just very disappointed with their unwillingness to accommodate us. Horrible customer service.

Beautiful building and close to the train station.
The swimming pool and jacuzzi was shut

Wonderful
Amazing property and very historic feeling with tall ceilings and vintage design, staff is kind and accommodating, great WiFi, complimentary minibar.
Half of the tv channels didn’t work, because the building is vintage, the elevator is a bit scary to use. Price is a bit high for what is received.

The location was nice. The property itself was magnificent, a showplace of architectural style. Staff was very accommodating.
The only detriment I found was no air conditioning. If I’d gotten there a day earlier it was 98• F , would’ve been rather uncomfortable. Cash be a little noisy if your room is in the front of the building, but that was a non-issue for us.

Wonderful
Room was larger than expected and clean. Blockout curtains were great. Hotel had a lovely "olden days" nostalgia in its decor and staff were very friendly. We arrived by overnight train (13 hours) in the early morning. Although our room was not ready they gave us a wellness pass to use the shower/gym facilities and stored our luggage so we could go out to breakfast and sight-see showered and in clean clothes without dragging our luggage around. Location was very central to the heart of Amsterdam and very close to trains and, ferries and buses.

Poor
Location was great as was the building’s history and architecture. The staff were really nice. The complimentary mini bar was also a nice touch.
Mattresses were worn and covered with heavy comforters despite the lack of air conditioning. The ‘climate control’ was a digital thermostat on the wall that didn’t do anything; a single open window that didn’t help when covered by the curtains. We were only there one night and the fan was the only reason we didn’t switch hotels.
Earlier in our trip we stayed at the Hotel CC nearby. They have air conditioning…

Poor
I like that the property was close to central station and looks pretty from the outside.
The room was not very clean. The furniture smelled really old, almost like a body odor smell. I got nose-blind to it after the first night but it lingered when I get close to the furniture, including the headboard.
The carpet must be original because it looked very dingy.
The coffee machine, cups, and silverware were dusty. Even after the second day, the new glass I got was dusty. Looks to have been used for a really long time.
The hose keeping was half-assed, for the most part, I think they just re-done the bed and stock some items (some nights, they miss some items). The last night, they only definitely did the bed.
I had multiple mosquitos in my room, and got a bug bite while taking a nap on the first day I was there.
I don’t usually like to complain about this, but I paid a lot of money to stay at a “5-star” hotel. But it felt like I was in a 2-star hotel. I had better service at lower rated hotel at cheaper prices during my trip.
The pool was not working, which I was really excited about because it looked pretty in the photos. And I wanted to relax since this stay was at the end of my trip.

Disappointing
Historical character and a great location
The service was intermittent; we left the room in the morning and returned at 4pm and had not had any cleaning or even refreshing of the towels. Also, the second night of our stay, the a/c completely stopped working in the middle of the night.

Wonderful
The history and design of the building is absolutely incredible. I felt like I was staying in a museum. No expense was spared when this shipping house was built and they have taken great care of the unique designs and architecture. The staff was patient and helpful through out our experience. We loved the look and gothic vibe from the hotel. We would definitely stay again and recommend this to our more occult friends.
There are some interesting attributes because the building is old. The shower drain was not able to handle the amount of water coming from the various shower heads so the first day we flooded the bathroom. Once we learned how to use this it was easier to manage. The light switch card system was confusing at first and we thought a ghost was taking our light card. Turns out the cleaning service removes the card when they come to clean. Also, there is no AC but once we were informed that some windows open, it cooled it down enough to sleep. There is also a lack of plugs in convenient places so we had to get creative with the tea kettle and phone chargers.

The hotel is clean and the staff is good
This is the first 5 star hotel I have been to without AC. Ridiculous to have to sleep in over 30 degrees. Even after the weather cooled down it still hot inside because most windows don't open. The hotel is fine, don't get me wrong. but the facilities is no where near 5 star standard.
