The heritage aspect adds a nice dimension, and the location is just far enough away from the noise, yet to close to access whatever you need.
Handy to train station, with an easy flat walk.
The check in process caused some concern, when we were allocated a room that someone was already checked into !
Despite the rocky start, the hotel did redeem itself with a pleasant stay.
Suggestions for management, please review your check in and security process !

Very Poor
My stay did not meet expectations whatsoever. To begin with, the air conditioning in the room was very poor and made the stay uncomfortable. Furthermore, I was deeply disappointed by the unhelpful and unwelcoming attitude of the front desk staff. I faced flight delays and asked for their cooperation to extend my check-out time. However, I was met with an entirely illogical demand: to pay the full price of a night just to extend my stay until 3:00 PM!
This kind of treatment shows a complete lack of flexibility and professional customer service. I expected a much higher standard of hospitality and appreciation for guests' circumstances.

Disappointing
This is a great, imposing building with a lot of history, well-placed for visiting Amsterdam and close to the Main Train Station. The facade and general look of the building is impressive as you can probably see from the photos. The decor of the restaurant and the bar are also suitably impressive, similar to other hotels we have stayed in of the same era.
This was the last hotel of a two week European trip, travelling as far as Italy and staying in 4 other hotels along the way. We have stayed in Amsterdam previously, never at this hotel. As this was the last hotel of our trip, we thought we'd treat ourselves. This was easily the most expensive place we stayed, so had high hopes. We stayed in room 704 on the second floor. The cost did not include breakfast (stupid us!). All our previous hotels had included a good breakfast at much less cost. Access to the hotel is restricted to stairs at first approach, although there is apparently another way in that can be opened. You need to lift your luggage up the entrance stairs, (unless a porter spots you I guess). The hotel is rather maze-like, with a few short steps at various places and the use of lifts as expected. We consider ourselves reasonably fit, but any infirm person might find this a problem. Our room was spacious, with a large double bed, chairs, table, sideboard and wardrobe, and reasonably well-appointed in the style of the hotel. However, there was a very loud and annoying cracking noise from the lower glass bathroom door hinge which was unexpected, and was a nuisance, especially at night when you didn't want to wake your spouse when using the facilities. It sounded like the glass would shatter each time you used the door, which was clearly upsetting. We can't believe this has not been noticed before. Otherwise the bathroom was good, although there was no bidet (a slight surprise). One of the window locks wouldn't work, and consequently we were unable to block out the noise of a party occurring across the street on our last night. They had a great time! The bed was rather uncomfortable for me which was also surprising. We didn't eat in the restaurant or drink in the bar. On checking out we notified the staff of the room issues, so they may be fixed for the next visitors.

Our room was nice and we enjoyed our stay. The bed was quite comfortable, the room was spacious and appreciated having a full-size desk. We enjoyed the Nespresso machine and a mini bar with waters and coke that were included. The buffet breakfast was very nice, decent variety and custom omelettes available on request. The staff was helpful and friendly, and the location was very convenient to Centraal station.
An outside view from the windows would've been nice but they did let in light. More electrical receptacles would have been convenient, but it is a (historic) older building and they were adequate.

The hotel is located close by the station.
The staff, facilities, not very clean, tv not working. Had a bad experience with unatended gym and sauna approached my a male- felt threatened and unsafe. The hotel didnt really deal with thia situation appropriately. I would not be using the hotel again.

Only the location........nothing else!!
THIS IS NOT A 5 STAR HOTEL. It's shabby in places and really looks like money has not been spent on keeping it looking nice. The outside look of the building is nice, but it really is dated. A 4 Star hotel at best!!! Paid for a 5 star hotel with pool etc, the room initially given to us with shockingly poor, even though it was in excess of £300 per night (no b/fast). The pool was closed for maintenance.....no additional gratuity etc, just reception saying "it's closed...sorry". Eventually moved to a nicer room which was similar to the photo of the room I thought I'd paid for. It offers facilities it doesn't have, certainly when we were there, and really needs a makeover......else it needs down grading!!

The location is perfect; the building is so cosy and beautiful. The reception was friendly.
The swimming pool was not available, the room service tried a couple of times to enter our room although we have put the "do not disturb sign". The AC was not working on one of the hottest nights; we have escalated this so many times but no satisfied reply or resolution was found.

The entire hotel is gorgeous, interesting, and historical, and does have elevators. Excellent bar and restaurant. About a 15 minute walk to any of the "hot spots" in Amsterdam, and only about 8 minute walk to Central Station. Quieter location than in the middle of the tourist areas.
The lighting in the room was dim. The carpet is due a replacement. There is no air conditioning, for our stay it was not necessary, but if we had been there a week or two earlier it would not have been tolerable. Unfortunately the pool and spa (which we were looking forward to!) is out of commission.
