Exceptional
The customer approach and service is splendid. I wanted to store my luggage at the hotel at 9:45 to stroll the city before checking in, but these guys checked me in right away — hours before I could expect it.
Also Sarah at the breakfast bar was super nice making the morning even better.
Private room is very bright and clean.

Location
Generator Amsterdam is located inside a really nice park where there's mixed utilities like basketball, tennis courts, and general greenery.
It's also in the oost side of Amsterdam, about 20 minutes tram from central station, maybe 5–10 minute walk to the two different tram stops.
Room (positives)
Typical hostel room, with the deluxe king we got towels also included (you need to pay otherwise.)
Cleanliness (positives)
The shower area and toilet were both clean so no complaints there.
Reception & Check-in/out
We arrived to the hotel at 1600, with check-in meant to be for 1400 we made sure to give room for error.
Yet, the room we had booked wasn't ready when we tried to checkin. When we asked when, the staff didn't know. They said wait around the area maybe, 30–40 minutes.
When we waited and eventually went to check 45 minutes later, it was done.
For the staff:
The room should have been ready at checkin time.
If the room wasn't ready, you should know it wasn't ready and why and communicate it.
When the room did become ready and you know people are waiting, come over and tell them...
Room (negatives)
The mattress itself was relatively thin, maybe 5cm.
It felt like it was also two singles wrapped together with a divet in the centre.
The bed frame itself was a squeaky metal one, if you were doing adult nighttime activities all of china would have known.
From within the bedroom, you could hear other rooms talking, although not very loudly. You could also frequnetly hear people in the hallways, children running up and down.
Cleanliness (negatives)
The white sheets did have some very minor dirt on them something brown stuck that came off. Not the end of the world but the cleaning staff probably would have noticed and just left it?
Outside, given it's a park, rats / mice were in the bushes outside the hotel.
Overall value
This is all par for the course really in a hostel, I don't mind lowered expectations.
With that said, I'd not go back at the cost of 700+ for 3 nights. It missed every chance to get points it could.

Wonderful
Comfortable beds
There was no quiet area for work calls. Music is everywhere in the main areas.

Fair
The front of house staff at reception were not very welcoming. Additionally, the top bunk bed felt quite unsafe due to its height, and the ladder/stairs were a bit slippery, making it difficult and potentially dangerous to climb up and down.

Good
The staff and the energy of the place was great. Location was very nice.
The doors are very loud and it can be tough to sleep especially in the mornings. Also can hear lots of noise from other rooms. Did not sleep well during the trip.

I went to this hotel, stayed for 2 nights along with my kids. The beds are wonderful but there are 3 beds arranged vertically, each side.
It is perfectly OK and safe for adults. For my kids who move and play a lot, that shall be a concern. Things solved as i made up our rule saying no one shall climb to the highest bed. Except me :)

Very Poor
Honestly, nothing. Terrible value for money.
Terrible cleaning.
Private room with 4 beds, piss on the toilet floor, dirty sheets and pillows dirty and smelly.
Entry lobby that looks like a hospice.
No towels at the room, everything need to pay extra, I mean everything. They even put the check-out at 10 so that if you leave at 12:00 like 99% of hotels and hostels you need to pay extra.
Honestly one of the worst places I have been, even the worst hostels in Copenhagen are better than this. Go to an ibis for a quick rest.
Long check in.
Staff ok.

Very Poor
Nice location, good facilities.
I stayed in a pod, which was in the basement right next to a nightclub operated by Generator. Extremely loud music on Saturday night, lasting the whole night till 4 am in the morning. It was simply impossible to get any sleep before the nightclub closed.
To make the matter worse, when I got up and went to use the shared toilet in the morning, my door card failed. I couldn't enter the bathroom and couldn't get back to my own room. I called a nearby staff member to help me but was rejected. He insisted that I must go to the reception. So I was forced to go to the reception first thing in the morning, barely awake, face unwashed.
The lady at the reception greeted me with a big smile. When I complained to her, she just kept smiling and kept telling me everything was fine, there was nothing to complain about.
I was extremely unhappy with their attitude and insisted they could not just pretend it was ok to treat a customer like this. I asked for a partial refund as a compensation and was rejected straight away without any room for negotiation. I threatened that I would leave them a bad review. That lady still had that professional big smile on her face and simply asked me to go ahead, she didn't care about bad reviews.
This was simply the worst experience I have ever had in my years of travelling. Apparently, they just don't care about the customer, period.

Disappointing
Some staff members were really nice
Dirty installations rust on the shower head and the grout lines in the shower are moldy.

The sink was clogged. Took forever to drain.

Good
The location was very convenient, and the park the hostel is in is very cute.
The room was too crowded, with triple-high bunk beds that were very inconvenient. Not enough space for bags.
