Loved staying at hotel Alp with my sister. We loved the location. Our room was so clean and bed and sheets were super comfortable. Staff were very pleasant and always ready to help. I definitely recommend this place and would return.
Everything was great!

Staff was very polite, helpful and was cheering us up whenever we came back tired. We were offered free tea and coffee every time we came near reception. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was new and clean. Room was warm and spaceous. Taxi was arranged through reception and was very good service and not too pricey.

Exceptionally clean, offered lots of free extras such as hot drinks anytime, an abundance of bathroom amenities such as shampoo, toothbrushes, lotion etc. Water in the room was a great touch. Rooms are small and compact but have everything you need and more.

Disappointing
Unfortunately, we were woken up by loud drilling noises in the morning due to ongoing renovations at the hotel. It was impossible to sleep with the constant construction sounds. In addition, the rooms are poorly soundproofed — we could hear everything from the hallway and the neighboring rooms. Every time a door opened or closed outside, it was very noticeable inside the room.

The location of the property was great. The room was very clean. Enjoyed having a balcony with our room.
Even though it was a triple room, the room was too small for our family of three. It would have been fine for two people, but for three people and their luggage on an extended trip through Europe, it was a bit tight.

The night clerk who checked me in was awesome, I am a senior lady and he carried my bags up the stairs for me. My room was fabulous, very bijou bust still very luxurious in such a small package. The shower was outstanding don’t get me started on the shower head extension, wow is all I can say. Then the BED, oh my GOSH, I came in tired, I ended up sleeping 14 hours straight. The bed is soft with a pillow top yet firm so you get an incredible nights sleep is all I can say. I was just blown away. I did oversleep my alarm by over an hour and had to pay an extra hours stay. But it was worth it to me, I woke up so refreshed. The morning tea was wonderful down in the bar and they even gave me a mini Toblerone that was really nice.
The only thing that I did not like were the stairs. I have really bad vertigo and I even have to take ginger tablets to help me manage the stairs coming down them.

had a really great time in the hotel, from the many useful facilities to the lovely staff who helped us with everything and gave us info about some attractions and locations
the room was the perfect size, comfy bed, a nice shower and bathroom and a cute view to the neighborhood
at the lobby there’s a hot drinks machine that you can use whenever you want which was very convenient!
location was good, not exactly in the center but a very short tram ride/walk away, and the neighborhood had some nice stores and cafes
the only downside was that there’s no elevator and the stairs are steep, but the staff helped us carry our luggages to the 4th floor so it wasn’t a big deal

Fair
Our room had a balcony facing behind the building. That was wonderful and Quaint. The building seems to have been newly renovated, so the facility, and the rooms were updated. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is a lobby where you can make yourself a coffee drink. The room had a small refrigerator, so you could store food overnight. The water pressure was great. The Alp is located on a tram line which made it very convenient to get around. Also, it was an short walk to the main attractions. The Alp has a large area on the 1st floor for meeting with friends or co-travelers. This is a family run business, so you will not get a run around about corporate policies. The room had air-conditioning that actually worked, unlike many hotels or accommodations. There are many reasonably priced restaurants a short walk from the Alp. Great neighborhoods to walk through . We always felt safe walking around. The staff helped us get our overstuffed American luggage up to the room. Many travelers were from other European countries and had reasonably sized and weighted luggage than we did. I felt bad for the young man whom huffed my luggage up to my room.
It should not be a surprise to everyone that the historic buildings lack Elevators. In fact, the stairs to our 4th floor location tested me. I guess i need to hit the stair master before I return. Again, remember historic building close to the Central historic area. If you are not in decent shape, perhaps stay at some chain hotel out of the historic area by the airport. While this hotel was recently refreshed, I was not a fan of the bathroom layout as it was tight. The jacuzzi tub should not have been part of the build as it is significant step out of it to the floor when exiting the shower. Again, if you have mobility issues, this place is not for you. I saw a guest commented that they like the tub, but honestly I think it would have taken an hour to fill up. Again, historic buildings often have small rooms. I found the room to be tight, especially if you have multiple pieces of large luggage like we did. It should be noted that this hotel had breakfast service in the past, but no longer does. There is little open at 6:30 in the morning, so make sure you bring leftovers home if you like to eat early in the morning. Staying close to the city center is expensive. This was a significant higher cost compared to our stays in Germany, For that reason, I think the value was not what we expected. I apologize for these comments, since I know this family run hotel is providing a great service to travelers. People need to adjust their expectations and realize city center means small accommodations that are expensive as compared to other locations.

Everything was perfect. We arrived and they welcomed us so well, they are friendly and helpful. They recommend lots of things to us, gave us introduction to being in Amsterdam, mentioned about all the details about our stay. They offered us a welcome drink, the hot drinks are free as well.
The room was so clean and spacious, there were towels, travel kit (sewing kit, shampoo, lotion, etc.), water, apple and chocolate. The balcony is great, and the view from the balcony was so peaceful. It was silent as well. They are ofc daily cleaning the room on your request, we didn't want to but we requested fresh towels. Everyone was so friendly, we really enjoyed the stay.
the location is amazing, there are cafes, supermarkets and many more things around. there is a tram stop in front of the hotel, so it was easy to arrive as well.
One last note, as you can imagine there is no elevator so you need to take the stairs, they helped us to carry the bags when we arrived, thank you! Keep in mind that you will carry your bags, you can request lower floors.
I like everything

Poor
As other reviews have mentioned, the staff is welcoming and helpful. Apples on the beds and chocolates on the pillows are a nice touch. Access to public transportation is great, with a tram stop right in front of the hotel.
The room was small but clean and nicely appointed, with two comfortable single beds. There was a small refrigerator. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub with two shower heads above. Toiletries, a hair dryer and a lighted magnifying mirror were present. The room had a nice balcony with a table and two chairs.
Negatives: There was no way to adjust room temperature. I was there in early fall. The lack of air conditioning was not an issue, but since the radiator furnace was not on, there was no way to warm the room. The wifi was ok.
Posted hotel policy requests that no visitors allowed in the room.
There is no elevator and the stairs are very steep. There are 68 steps to the fourth floor rooms. Above the second floor, all of the treads are triangular, as the staircase is an elongated, four story spiral interrupted by several small landings. The treads are about one foot in depth at the wall, less in the center where one walks. Traversing these steps, especially with luggage is difficult. The stairway lights, one per floor, are on motion sensors. This isn’t a problem when ascending, as one’s presence turns in the light for the flight above. Unfortunately, this is not the case when going down, and the flight below is in darkness until one descends enough to trigger the motion sensor - about half the flight.
Most concerning was the lack of a secondary fire escape route. I was told that in case of fire I should wait until someone came to rescue me. I was very uncomfortable sleeping in a room where, if there was fire and/or smoke in the stairwell, I had no other means of escape. At best, one would be racing down a very steep, dark (motion sensor controlled) stairwell. This could be remedied if there were a fire escape from the balcony.
Overall, this is a clean and welcoming budget hotel with structural design issues. Because of my concerns, I would not stay here again.

Wonderful
Staff was great and friendly. Free hot drinks at the lobby. Great coffee. Great recommendations from the receptionist. Room and hotel was very clean. Bathroom were nicely renovated.
Room was EXTREMELY small. It was loud, because of trams outside. You needed to have windows open, because ventilation was not great.

We liked everything from the very first moment we entered the hotel. We received a very warm welcome from Mr. Tahir, who explained everything about our stay, including the best places to visit and the best areas for lunch or dinner. He also had tickets available for various tours. Complimentary warm drinks (tea, coffee, etc.) are available at any time. Highly recommended for a perfect stay in Amsterdam!
The bathroom is a bit small, but it's perfectly fine for a short stay.
