Beautiful spot. Good food onsite too
The casitas are quite dark inside, eg, you can’t read in bed. I didn’t ask for an additional lamp— perhaps they have some? Also the random bongo guy needs to cool it ?

The staff was amazing. Friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful and very clean. The design was cool and stylish while maintaining a very natural look. The food was fresh and healthy. Delicious and quality. Servers were attentive and on it without being pushy and or avoidant. They maintained a nice balance of checking in and giving space. The place was also very nice to our dog.
From our room I could hear the cars and motor bikes on the street in the middle of the night, which was disruptive and hard to fall back asleep when I woke up in the middle of the night. Also, I was so saddened to hear a dog close by bark all night-- all five nights and even in a torrential downpour rainstorm. Super sad and distracting for me as I let my dog sleep in my house and on my bed.

Amazing location, friendly staff, very nice and clean rooms. The restaurant on the property was delicious, the beach beds were comfortable. They include free parking with security. This place was great!

Free breakfast was a nice touch it definitely came in clutch when needed. Wish there was a gym on the actual property but it’s not the end of the world bc of that.

Very Poor
The staff was pretty much non existent and when we did need help with getting water to drink or something basic, they couldn’t help… Our toilet broke down multiple times, the beach was unusable and had a horrible experience.

Disappointing
Positives: the grounds were well maintained, staff was mostly friendly, the staff in the neighboring restaurant, the Akna, were great. We had a nice 2 bedroom cabana but there was only A/C units in the bedrooms so we couldn’t use the main areas too much. Good location. .
Negatives: the sargassum was awful and also smelled awful. We couldn’t use the beach at all - the reason we booked it was to be able to walk to the beach whenever we wanted but it was not possible with all the seaweed. One night we found a scorpion in our room - not sure if they fumigate for those types of pests but it was scary. Main reason I give this hotel a 2 star review and why we will never go again is because my husband (foolishly, yes he has fault in this) left his shorts on the bed with his wallet in them while we went to the pool. While we were at the pool, the cleaning staff went in to clean the cabana. When we came back, we couldn’t find the wallet and after looking for some time, we found it buried under some clothes in one of our suitcases. We thought it was strange but brushed it off. Then, days later there were fraudulent charges on 2 of our credit cards. One of those credit cards we took for emergency purposes only and never used it once in tulum. It wasn’t used to book the room, to book transportation - nothing. It was only taken for emergencies like I said. So we put two and two together and reported it to the hotel. They said they would look into it and then came back two days later denying any wrongdoing from their staff. They took no responsibility and reprimanded no one. I also want to add that one evening when we were walking to dinner, we saw an empty camera bag, a wallet, sunglasses and a scarf thrown to the side on one of the walking paths. We thought it strange so we reported that as well. It’s very clear those items were stolen to look through then thrown once they had taken what they wanted to take.

I loved the restaurant by the beach. The whole location was very clean and a beautiful resort altogether.
The lighting in the room could’ve been a little brighter, but that is all. Everything else was wonderful.

I loved the direct beach access and cleanliness.
On my 4th night, water was out for the entire night. I had to reach out to inquire about the issue. I understand it was out of their control but maybe a heads up/general message to everyone?.

Very Good
I like the location of the hotel, it’s in the hotel zone but perfectly between spaces so I can still rest without being in a crowd of music, cars and people. I also like they have a cute restaurant with a beach bar (happy hr 6-8pm everyday), great food too and they make it public so everyone can come and enjoy a drink by the beach. Their staffs were very friendly and helpful. I also like that I am steps away from the beach!! This is the best.
I guess they can do a little better with instructions on how to book a yoga class (I.e. the details about book 1 day ahead, or cash only or allow card?) I think some clearer guidelines will prevent confusion. But again, this is really small and they were very accommodating when I didn’t have enough cash.

It was nice, felt like you were in a jungle.
The hotel only had one restaurant open. The location was pretty far from the walking zone of the beach side of Tulum. The pool staff didn’t even have pool towels available. Also, some of the towels had some stains. They also charge you random $30 fee once you get there even though you book it through booking and already paid that fee.

The tacos were ok
Welcome to the mosquito nest! There’s many things hotels can do to take care of a mosquito infestation: mosquito nets, free spray for guests, burning coconut husks, the staff at Maya Tulum prefer to smile and shake their heads, citing recent rain and the jungle as unstoppable. We arrive and were bit 10+ times on the way to our room. But we weren’t safe inside either! Thatch roofs provide little bug defense and we got bit another 10 times during our nap. I’m allergic to mosquitoes. If I get bit enough times I can have my eyes swell shut. When I informed the staff of this they gave me that same smile, head shake, lame explanation, and directions to the pharmacy to buy my own defenses. Changing to a room with a real roof was apparently impossible. But thats not all! Our private hot tub was not heated and disgusting. They only cleaned the green slime when we asked them to do so — not that it mattered. We werent going swimming in that mosquito pit anyway. The hotel cant control the ocean, but you should probably also know that this section stinks like nothing I’ve ever smelled before and is an unappetizing red-brown color atypical of the carribean. We had no hot water for two hours after we arrived, we also had to request for it to be turned on. When the attendant came to fix it he turned on all the sinks and one didnt drain but he didnt seem to mind that. The staff also tried to charge us the maximum amount for everything. We were quoted at $200+ for a trip to Chicen Itza you can find on booking for <$50. Prices from the minibar are astronomical compared to the 7/11 down the street. They also quoted us higher prices for taxis than the drivers themselves. The restaurant is only tacos with very limited options and everytime you eat there the staff quietly insists on 15-20% tip. For every meal and drink. Even though its the only place to eat in the area. We felt like captives. Juices are 90% water and not very tasty. Coffee is instant and disgusting.
