Pocna is unlike any hotel I’ve stayed in. Nestled inside reserve Jaguar Park, it offers something increasingly rare: the feeling of genuinely living in nature rather than just sleeping near it. Barefoot breakfasts, howler monkeys at dawn, iguanas wandering past your door — this is the real deal.
The room was comfortable and well-equipped, which genuinely surprised me given the wild setting. The staff were attentive and warm throughout our stay.
A few things to know before you book — and I mean this as useful information, not complaints:
Wildlife is constant. Iguanas, coatis, tropical birds, snakes, spiders… they share the space with you. It was a delight for us, but if that idea makes you uneasy, this probably isn’t your place.
The eco rules are real. No single-use plastics, no alcohol on the premises. This is part of the deal and I respected it fully — just come prepared and don’t expect a swim-up bar.
Sargasso is a reality in early May. The beach was cleaned regularly, but seaweed accumulation meant we could only swim in the ocean 2 out of our 6 days. This is a natural seasonal phenomenon beyond the hotel’s control — worth factoring into your timing if ocean swimming is a priority.
Who is this for? Eco-conscious travelers, nature lovers, anyone who finds beauty in simplicity and wants Tulum without the party scene.
One of the most memorable places I’ve ever stayed.

Very Good
Quiet, safe, great staff. Beach location might be worth the inconvenience for some being away from city center. Yoga early in the morning, Nespresso in rooms, daily breakfast is recommended.
Staying inside the national park has some positives and drawbacks. Beach access is great. Some good restaurants on the beach as well, but they do not stay open late. If you do not plan to go into the city often and want to disconnect, Pocna is a good option. However, if you do enjoy Tulum's city restaurants and nightlife, entering, leaving, and re-entering the park can be complex. Each entry into the park requires a wristband. The property gives you a set for your stay however if you frequently leave the park you will have to purchase another wristband.
It is currently 400 MXN to have a taxi brought in to pick you up. And often, taxis do not want to go into the park because when they exit they are supposedly charged 50 pesos.
I was able to secure rides for 250 or 300 pesos with no tip returning to the park.
Also, be aware that you may need to walk a lot, either on the paved road or on the beach, to get around. The park offers an electric trolley, but only to those who purchase the Jaguar Park wristband. Get this wristband before your stay!
Bike rentals are $9 to $15 USD a day and recommended as an alternate method of transport.
Also, entrance to the ruins has its own price (separate wristband), and you cannot access the ruins from the beach.

Good
Exactly as advertised, the hotel is located directly on one of the most beautiful beaches in Tulum, right inside the Jaguar National Park. You can literally walk straight onto the sand from your bungalow.
Our room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. A special note: the bungalows are built with concrete and stone and have no gaps to the exterior. This means you are completely shielded from mosquitoes and wildlife, which is a huge advantage compared to the wooden bungalows found elsewhere.
The included breakfast was surprisingly good; you can choose one main dish from the menu in addition to toast or pancakes. My only recommendation is to ask for an alternative to the standard 'coffee.' It’s described as an Americano, but in reality, it's more like coffee-flavored hot water! :)
The hotel provides free and unlimited drinking water, as well as 4 Nescafe capsules per day : very appreciated
1. The Sargassum Issue: The biggest downside during the mid-season is, of course, the sargassum seaweed invading all the beaches in the region. This isn't specifically the hotel's fault; in fact, Pocna Hotel makes a real effort to clean it up, unlike many neighboring properties. However, the collection process is quite disruptive. A noisy tractor operates throughout the morning, which can be very annoying when you're trying to enjoy breakfast or relax on a sun lounger just a few meters from the engine's roar.
2. National Park Access: Managing the hotel's location within the national park isn't always straightforward. You have to pass through a guard inspection every time you return to the hotel. Even when wearing the official access bracelet, we always had to explain we were guests and show our booking confirmation, which became a bit tedious.

Wonderful
The hotel is in El Parque del Jaguar which means that in order to enter and exit you have to go through the guardia national. This made it so the hotel was very excluded from the touristy areas. If you are trying to access the archeological site it’s very accessible by taking the electric bus just up the road. The hotel staff were amazing!! The rooms were clean, fully stocked and in a beautiful setting.
Having to go through the national guard check point made it hard to bring in any food/drink from outside as they did not allow alcohol or plastic. This means you have to eat at the restaurant on site or drive out of the area. The Japanese restaurant had steep prices, I really don’t recommend eating there unless you don’t feel like driving out of the hotel area. We were here in April and there was quite a bit of sargassum, although the hotel tried cleaning it up the beach was really not functional. We will have to return when there is no sargassum. Overall still highly recommend this hotel!!

It is such a magical area! It feels like it’s just you and the jungle & beach.
The only downside is having to drive in and out of the preserve area, but it was fairly easy!

Wonderful
Beautiful beach location: Our room was a hut in the jungle with a veranda and views on the sea. Great setting, large room + bathroom. The hotel also removes the sargassum seaweed which makes the beach section in front of the hotel much nicer than other beach sections.
Service at breakfast is a bit slow. Coffee is not good.

It’s a great location , quiet . Room was as shown in pictures impeccably clean . Nice & friendly front desk team . Nice beach, unfortunately lots of seaweed to swimming was not possible. Nice daybeds on the beach with shield from sun. There is a couple of good restaurants within walking distance which in addition offer gorgeous views (casa Maria, mezzanine)
Many comments mention the price. Room and easy beach access was at par with price level . Unfortunately, there is really not many amenities.,pool is very small. The restaurant serves a fair breakfast but is limited to egg dishes and definitely does not at a level matching the price of the hotel .

Really incredible hotel, could not recommend it any more highly. The sandy path through the jungle through to the private rooms was amazing. Each room feels secluded and private whilst still maintaining proximity to the facilities. The staff were excellent, the food and drinks at the beach club were high quality and fairly priced. Beds were available on the beach every day and the service was fast and professional. The pool area carved in amongst the trees overlooking the ocean was amazing. For those wanting to be a short drive (or ride) out of the main area of Tulum, you should seriously consider staying at Pocna. Despite being out of the main area, it's walking distance to other hotels that have beach clubs so we felt that we had great food options.

Wonderful
The hotel is very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. The room was pleasant and the staff very friendly and enjoyed breakfast by the beach where we were visited by a coati.
We enjoyed our stay but we had to pay to enter the park and extra tax on arrival. The rules on wristbands were very confusing and the Tulum ruins are in a separate park with an additional cost. The taxi from the ADO bus station to the hotel was $350MXN on the way in (a 15 minute journey) and $400 for our return when booked by the hotel.

Very Good
The quiet, the very pleasant staff especially Orfe she helped us secure a driver and offered much information to make our stay pleasant. The restaurants nearby were very good in addition to the 2 on the property.
The different arm bands was a bit confusing.

Really cool jungle vibes. Nice beach with loungers. The reception staff was very welcoming.
The 2 restaurants on site are not great. The food is overpriced and the portions are very small. The staff is also quite rude and slow for service. We tried other restaurants nearby (Cinco and Mezzanine) which offered better service and better food. You also need a car to get around otherwise you have to pay an absurd amount for a taxi.

We had a beach front room and it was perfection with a comfortable bed and a stunning view. So quiet and calm - only the sound of the crashing waves. No tv or fridge but that was a-okay for me. Simple and relaxing. It was a dream and I'll for sure go back!
I seriously have no complaints. The staff were lovely and helpful, there when you needed them. The whole experience felt like tremendous value to me. Worth every penny. I did not want to leave!

Amazing location, a short walk from the Mayan ruins. As it is now inside a national park we felt like we had our own private bungalow in paradise. I had no expectations before going but was really pleasantly surprised at how great it was for this price. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout. Big thanks to the guys next door who run the boat tours who were great and were really flexible when we had some weather and had to change dates. The breakfasts were big and tasty. I would happily go back for a longer trip.
We ate dinner at other restaurants a short walk away (Casa Maria was excellent) as we didn’t hear good things about the two restaurants on site and they were both empty at night. But we didn’t eat there so can’t really comment.

Wonderful
I stayed here Dec 2025 and Feb 2026, both considered off season. The property is right on Tulum Beach in Jaguar National Park and is absolute paradise.
The place is pretty small- about 40 rooms/ bungalows- with friendly and helpful staff. With daily sunrise yoga and breakfast included, I barely felt the need to leave the property. Daily yoga with Brenda was a highlight for me, and why I returned to the same property 2 months later!
I think all of the rooms are quite different, as I saw complaints about the bathrooms not offering privacy. Both times I stayed in beachside bungalows that had a closing door to the bathroom, that were large, clean and comfortable. The rooms don’t have TVs, which I appreciated, and WiFi is strong near the restaurants and entrance, and sporadic in the bungalows. Download your ebooks/ things to watch!
The restaurant staff remembered me (today was Gerardo, Gustavo and Victoria), and the front desk people as well. Edgar said “welcome home” when I checked in this time. I saw complaints about the food so thought I’d mention that you get to choose anything off the breakfast menu, and the portions are generous. You also get juice (typically melon or piña) and coffee. I’ll add pics.
The prices on Tulum Beach are like US prices- pretty high. You’re only a few miles from the town, grocery stores, and many restaurants, and some rent bicycle. Renting a car is cheap and convenient.
You can visit the ruins nearby, or walk the beach daily with very little attention/ disturbances from people selling things. I snorkeled one day (only 200 pesos if you walk down the beach to the locals), and though the reef isn’t very healthy, there were turtles, rays and some colorful fish! They also offer massages and facials on- site. Many couples visit here, and young families- mostly European.
I love Hotel Pocna, which is why I wrote such a long review!
Though it’s not their fault, all of the different charges can be frustrating. There are so many government agencies requiring money that you pay taxes, environmental fees, national park fees, archaeological fees, etc all separately. Lots of wristbands!
I’d love to have a refrigerator in the room, a clothesline (my room had one the first time), and signs to remind people to never flush toilet paper in Mexico (we had a clog on my first stay).
