Very Good
The property is beautiful, nature friendly, private. The meandering paths to the pool snd beach lovely. Restaurant and food incredible. Staff amazing.
The villas are looking worn, our plunge pool jacuzzi jets did not work. Also very noisy loud music from the hotels next to Viceroy.

Fabulous small resort. Very private and quiet. Food was delicious. Service was incredible. Would highly recommend. We hope to go b ack some day.
Room had a slight musty odor but I think it's because of the climate and not because of cleanliness.

Quiet and restful surroundings with excellent service and attention to detail.
If you want to go off resort it is about a 20 minute cab ride to town. However, there is minimal reason to need to leave the property.

Wonderful
Love this resort!! Will definitely return. Super private getaway with a mature crowd. Quiet, tranquil, peaceful. Good food and amazing staff. Beds were decently comfortable but not our pillow preference (too flat), though housekeeping did bring us another option. The true magic of this place are the private cabins that have been tucked and nestled into the natural jungle and very private attached outdoors showers. It’s incredible. We barely left our room we loved it so much. There were mosquitos around during our visit (early August) but the hotel provides a natural citronella spray to keep them away - and the scent was nice. It also seemed to heal the bites we did get very quickly. Overall, if you just keep applying the spray periodically it’s no bother. The natural beauty of the place was worth the mosquitos that came along with it. It was truly magical. Highly recommend!!!
Loved it all

This property is damn near perfect. Truly… I’ve been all over many coasts across the world, and this was absolutely amazing. Every detail is perfect. The staff, service, everything.

The whole place is beautiful. The staff are exceptional,
The lighting system and lighting in the bedroom is not good. The bathroom lighting is abysmal.
Whoever buys fruit and vegetables needs to learn the difference between poor quality and the best available.

Wonderful
This is one of the loveliest hotels you will find. The staff are absolutely fantastic and the food was exceptional. We have been lucky enough to stay in 5 star hotels around the world and this one is definitely up there. A couple of small points - the electrics and plumbing in the rooms are a bit dated and they should invest in a decent coffee machine. These are small things in an otherwise wonderful experience. The staff and the food and incredible.

While planning a winter escape, I focused more on the type of resort rather than location or beach. I wanted to feel pampered, zen and with nature. I had stayed at Viceroy hotels in the US before and always had a good experience, so I was happy to find this one with only 40 or so rooms and the type of setting I was seeking. The care the staff took was unparalleled to any other experience we’ve had. They looked after us, brought us treats, knew our preferences and were always so accommodating. The massage was the best we ever experienced. The vibe of the common areas is low key; no loud music or obnoxious behavior, the food was excellent. The suites are so different from your average resort, the bed was huge and comfortable, each room has an outdoor shower and plunge pool. The rain head showers were a delight with excellent pressure.
I can’t say enough about this wonderful place (obviously). If you’re seeking an out-of-the-ordinary adult experience to relax and be pampered, this is the place.
It’s the jungle, so be warned of the possibility of little critters

The tropical feel
The beach , I hated the sand whales at the front and the beach has too many rocks

The staff is amazing. They are receptive and thoughtful. The rooms were incredibly comfortable and clean. The plunge pool was a highlight. Eating by the water was balm for the soul.

Poor
The location directly on the beach. The jungle setting.
This resort is in dire need of a serious renovation of all its villas. The thatched roofs are leaking and the resort has tried to fix it by covering it with plastic sheets. Unfortunately, that keeps the water trapped in the roof and makes the room damp and covered with mold. Unacceptable for a resort that claims to be 5 star luxury and charges these type of prices. Best to avoid if your want to enjoy a holiday that is worth this type of money.

The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent and location great.
The rocks in the sea opposite but apparently they are going to break these up and the noise of the generator in room 32 but we asked to be moved which they did.

Location is stunning, the jungle atmosphere really unique and relaxing. Quiet and feels very private, as there aren't a huge amount of people and you have plenty of space Rooms are luxurious, huge and comfortable. The private pool and outdoor showers are so luxuriant and incredible to have in the room. Staff amazingly attentive and provide fantastic small touches (a specific course was made, off menu, for me one dinner as there was a particular ingredient I wanted to try). Gym is excellent and free cold filtered water provided in there. Spa is available to book on request with a free steam room and heated pool (treatments are extras). There's a great on site pool. There's 2 choices of restaurant with reasonably varied menu options (more casual and a high end dining options) and regular "theme nights" e.g pizza and pasta, mexican night, steak night (these are geared to American tastes to a degree). Breakfast is good and the location of the breakfast dining tables is beautiful. Walking around the site is simple. The hotel is able to arrange taxis if you need to get anywhere (i.e we got a taxi arranged to Puerto Aventuras for around $75 return) and you can make it to Playa Del Carmen for c. $20-25 each way
More casual dining options would be nice but there is a beach club a short walk down the beach which provides an alternative for lunch or early dinner. On top amenities, i.e mini bar are on expensive side

Very Poor
Nothing
The photos look beautiful—until you arrive at the hotel. Everything is outdated. Broken sunbeds by the pool and beach, umbrellas falling apart, and the beach itself is neglected and poorly maintained. The pool water smells bad and looks discolored. The rooms have a damp smell, and insects fall from the ceiling onto your bed. The spa is so dark that it seems to deliberately hide how old and run-down it is. There’s no paper menu, only a QR code that is almost impossible to scan. The food is overpriced, and most of it is low-quality, pre-made products. In short, the photos presented during booking are completely misleading. Shame on you!

Wonderful
We loved the jungle walking path and feeling like we were in a jungle. We loved the outdoor shower and the plunge pool. We loved the welcome we received with little extras! The service details were spectacular! Staff did everything to make sure we were comfortable and relaxed. We visited the spa facilities as well and enjoyed that! It never felt crowded and the animals we saw were a highlight as well!
The price of our room per night was A LOT! I think if I were to pay that much again I would expect a bigger room or a loft to separate beds from next to each other.

Wonderful
The breakfasts were good and, as long as it was not raining, the site was perfect. However, the indoors venue was claustrophobic, cold and dimly lit
As it was frequently cold, there should be some sort of heating in the bedroom and bathroom which would also help to deal with the feeling of damp and cold damp towels. The lighting in the bedroom was poor and, in the bathroom, abysmal. The water pressure in the shower was totally inadequate. Its controls were unfathomable to start with and something needs to be done to stop the cold water running rather hot for some time.

the room have a lot of wonderful details, from the outside shower, to the full mini bar.
