Very Good
Front desk staff was not friendly and way too aggressive but the rest of the staff housekeeping just walking around the property with phenomenal front desk. Staff needs better training about Customer Service Service.
The property was lovely

Poor
The day we arrived, Diego led us to check-in and had us sit down with him so he could show us a map of the property. He said because we booked through Booking.com, if we sat down with someone the next day for an hour and let them show us how to book through the hotel website, we’d get 2500 free points to use toward a cabana/massage, etc. He promised we wouldn’t be sold anything. So the next morning, (after staff called our room 2x to remind us about our appt), we showed up on time but we were passed around for AN HOUR between locations and staff and it was very confusing. After an hour, we were set up for a walking tour and a sales pitch?! And told it would take another hour. We left the tour early and got nothing for our wasted time. Dining was absolutely abysmal. You have to have a reservation to have dinner anywhere other than the buffet (and trust me, you don't want to be at the buffet - most of the food is cold or stale). We were only there for three days, but upon arrival, we were told we needed to have reservations for dinner through the hotel's app. Lo and behold, reservations were all booked up until the day we were leaving. The one night we were able to get a reservation, it was at La Adelita. The guacamole was good, so that was a win! However, my husband ordered the Lamb Mixiote... and it came out wrapped in a paper wrapping that looked like it could've been from In-N-Out; it was thrown on a plate next to a mound of white rice and that was it. The weirdest dinner presentation I've ever seen... and it tasted bad, we couldn't even eat it... For lunch, options were the same across all places we were allowed to go to (I was turned away from the one place that had any sort of variety because I wasn't part of "Family Selection"): chicken nuggets, pizza, chips with gross nacho cheese or hot dogs. We survived off chicken nuggets for days.

the location to the surf break and easy access to other areas for surfing from there
Had problems with the app and it never was resolved so it was really hard to book into the la carte restaurants...the ones we went to were not that great anyway so we stuck with the buffet. Had to leave early and was trying to gift someone the rest of our stay and they wouldn't allow it.

Exceptional
Gorgeous property with so many things to do.
The food was delicious, but could have benefited from more vegetarian protein options for kids. Like a veggie burger or veggie dog. Lots of yummy beans and vegetable dishes available.

You could swim in the ocean at the beach. There is a surf break on the point.
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! It does not matter how cheap a deal you get. It’s not worth a dime. We have stayed at many hotels in Mexico of varying levels. Cheaper hotels with fewer stars and they were far superior to this one. This is not a 5 star hotel. It’s not even a 2 star. The food is terrible. The buffet is barely edible and the A La Cartes are disgusting. We tried the Japanese, The Italian, The Mexican. Nothing was edible. The rooms are filthy and falling apart. The AC doesn’t work well. The pool is filthy. The kids club is gross was boring for our toddlers. The grounds are poorly maintained. It wasn’t even that busy because of the recent cartel activities in PV. The worst part is the noise from the pool at all hours. It starts at 9am. They have many weddings by the pool with amplified music and the sound would shake the walls in our room on the other side of the resort. We never complain when on vacation but we had to this time. The managers refused to turn the music down even after 11pm. The night manager Carlos said it would stop at 11pm. At 1130 we complained again because the local laws state that they can’t amplify music like that at all hours. A different night manager claimed they had until 12am to stop the music. They didn’t care that we had young kids of elder parents with us. When we checked in we specifically asked for quiet rooms even paying an extra $300 more to upgrade to a quieter area facing the adult pool. It didn’t make a difference. Part of our group that faced the pool ended up leaving early because it was so unbearable. This resort is not suitable for families, couples, elderly, anyone really. Do not be tricked by the reviews or false advertising like we were. We also walked the ground at the Family Select next door. It’s just a terrible. We ate at their restaurant. It’s awful. We are just happy we didn’t pay the extra money to stay there. You can’t swim at their beach, everyone staying there came to ours.

Exceptional
We stayed at Grand Principal Vallarta for 7 days and 7 nights, and overall we had a truly wonderful experience. First of all, I want to highlight the high level of service. The staff was always attentive, friendly, and professional. The entire property is very clean, beautifully maintained, and everything feels organized and well cared for. We were especially impressed by the kids’ entertainment program — it is truly at the highest level. There are so many activities, and you can see that the team genuinely cares about creating a fun and safe environment for children. The food at the main buffet restaurant was very diverse and delicious. There were plenty of options every day, and we never felt bored with the variety. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had a beautiful ocean view. Every single day we could see whales jumping and swimming in the ocean right from the hotel, since it was whale season — that alone made the trip unforgettable. The pools and beach area are excellent. Everything is well designed and maintained, and we always managed to find available lounge chairs without stress. I also want to mention the jungle area within the hotel — it’s stunning. You can tell they take care of it. There are many peaceful spots where you can relax surrounded by greenery. It’s very beautiful and very clean. We used the gym regularly, and it is in great condition with plenty of equipment. Yoga mats and everything needed are provided. We also visited the spa and really enjoyed it. The massage was excellent, and all the hydro-massage areas, steam rooms, and sauna were in very good condition. We are truly grateful to the hotel for such wonderful service and hospitality.
The only point I would like to mention is that the à la carte restaurants could be improved, especially the Mexican restaurant. The food quality there was disappointing. In Mexico, in Mexican Restaurant the food should not be of that level. If management is reading this review, I kindly suggest reconsidering the kitchen team in the Mexican restaurant. It really does not reflect the overall high standard of the hotel. However, I am not lowering my rating from 5 stars because overall the experience was excellent. The buffet offers more than enough variety, and there are always two snack restaurants open, so food is available at all times. Thank you for a beautiful vacation. We truly enjoyed our stay and created wonderful memories here.

Pleasant
The best part of this resort was the staff, they were kind, helpful and attentive. We were immediately greeted upon arrival, with no delays at check in or receiving our luggage. The resort always felt adequately staffed, in all areas including groundskeeping, housekeeping, food services and pool areas. The landscaping and grounds of the resort are well established with lush foliage. The resort did a great job with special events, such as weddings and sports.
This resort is older, and while there are many beautiful areas including the hacienda design, the property and rooms are in desperate need of a remodel. Our room was advertised as a Panoramic Ocean View, the room primarily looked over a courtyard and pool, with a small sliver of ocean view. The balcony was very small, barely fitting the two chairs provided. While the room was clean, the signs of wear and tear are obvious. The leather couch was worn and old, and had visible signs of paint splatter. Not sure how that happens. The cabinet doors had loose hinges and were hanging at different levels. Dresser top had burn marks from iron use, wood work everywhere had scratches. A/C was very noisy and never seemed to get cooler even when set lower. Other items to note, the resort layout is extremely choppy and lack of signage makes it confusing. Ones with mobility issues should do their research, this resort offers no elevators and requires many stairs in common areas. Impossible to get a dinner reservation, or a lounge chair after 9am. This resort offers a price point that is appealing to many travelers, and you get what you pay for. While we were here to attend a wedding, this resort is not a 5-star property, not even close to it. Even though it is marketed online as such, which is my biggest issue.

Location is great, food is very good .
Stayed for 7 nights, the music for 2 weddings went until midnight. We would’ve stayed in a quieter part of the resort had we been informed as we had our 5 year old with us

Disappointing
It was a large property had some nice walk ways that made seemed like you were in nature . The beach was beautiful and they had a pool at the beach . Great gym .
Service was not great team seemed stressed . Room was outdated and tired . No elevators I felt for the workers had to take luggage up flights of stairs . Check in was unorganized and only one restaurant for breakfast and lunch which cause plates to run out and food .

The food was good and varied. New Years Eve buffet was beyond incredible. Most of the wait staff were pleasant and helpful. Drinks were top shelf. Rooms were comfortable, cleaning staff were efficient and reliable.
Definitely not good value for the money, and I question the validity of their '5 stars'. Besides lounging and drinking by the pool, there were very little activities available. The beach although private, was difficult to enjoy due to large and rough rocks along the shore. There were several inconveniences during the trip, minor but definitely put a damper on what's supposed to be a 5 star experience. From what I gathered there seems to be a problem with management as employees although they tried their best, lack proper top-down leadership. Would not return.

The hotel has a lot of activities for kids and family
Organization, the menu to eat has written one thing and when you get it has another thing. Be careful when you book a family selection has benefits this is not written somewhere, but if you book in a deluxe or normal bedroom it’s a different aérea. Because we were family of 6, 3 adults 3 kids, we book in a family selection but the other room was faraway from us, so we have to paid extra to be in the same area.

Beautiful surroundings- Love Street- walkways with intimate tropical gardens to wander and relax. The spa was perfectly done with sauna, steam, hot tub, cold plunge, pool and showers. Good placement of bathrooms so that there was always one nearby.
The rooms were extremely musty smelling. Some buildings’ exteriors were rough and needed to be camouflage or covered to be more presentable for the guest experience.

The resort was nice, but there are many nice resorts out there, what made our stay truly exceptional was Eliutt Dominguez at concierge services. He went above and beyond to make this an awesome vacation. All the restaurants are good but The nest was incredible, we had two allergies in our group and Verenice, Adrian, Fany, Antonio all went out of their way to accomodate us, it was incredible.
