There was a small but surprisingly unnecessary issue with the in-room fridge. Normally it’s stocked with assorted canned drinks (cola, 7Up, mineral water, beer). Our fridge had no mineral water, so we requested restocking. Service arrived and brought one can of mineral water, insisting it had to replace another can from the fridge.
The next day, the customer service manager explained this was due to a new policy: each room now gets only one can of drink, even for two adults at an all-inclusive resort. We were also told that many other guests had been raising the same issue at the front desk. If both guests prefer the same drink, the proposed solution was to remove a different drink entirely (e.g., no 7Up) so both could share the same one—essentially putting guests in the awkward position of needing a “preferred soft drink list” in case they’re asked.
What started as a minor request turned into an unnecessary and puzzling waste of vacation time. For an all-inclusive resort, this policy feels oddly restrictive—following the same logic, one might wonder if the next policy will be one towel per room.

The pool ,beach and grounds are fabulous! Plenty of shade to be found around the pool and on the beach
Buffet food good not spectacular. There were no offerings that were amazing. RIU always has a couple WOW options at the buffet.
But it was satisfying

Located 1 hour away from Cancun airport, a short taxi ride from Playa del Carmen (15€ taxi ride). 5min walk from hotel a small souvenirs area, pharmacy etc, all inclusive family friendly a gated community so quite safe.
Tucan and Quetzal both share the common area and are located on the outside of the central jungle area with the restaurants, pools, etc. lovely to see so many animals running free around the property.
All inclusive family friendly with plenty of activities for kids, large pools, and free rental of balls, ping pong , billiard. Staff was always friendly.
6 restaurants on site, the Italian and the Japanese one needed reservations. They didn’t all have open for breakfast, lunch or dinner, so sometimes long waiting to be seated. Favorite was Cozumel restaurant. Snack bar and ice cream bar, plenty of drink bars.
We arrived around 1pm and waited for our rooms until, which were not ready until after 3:30pm. Then the room keys were not properly activated, so we had to walk back to the reception to get them reactivated.
We had two rooms and one of the rooms had a very loud AC, which made sleeping very uncomfortable. Plus: it was so loud it covered the noise from the neighboring hotel club with their loud party music till 2am. The rooms are quite old and it’s visible that changes haven’t been made since it was built, but the rooms were clean.
The seats at the pool were blocked before 7am, and the pool management didn’t do anything about empty blocked seats until midday. Made it difficult to find a seating area. The sea shore was covered in brown algae when we were there so everyone was hogging the pool.

The hotel was very clean. The staff was very attentive. Great variety of food. Our favourite part was the gardens with the animals around.

Sea was exceptional! Clear, warm and calm.
During the stay, the restaurant burned resin incense, creating dense smoke with a strong, musky odor that irritated the respiratory system and made it difficult to breathe. The source of the smoke remains unclear, and despite notifying staff, the issue was not addressed.
Additionally, staff on the beachfront were seen removing personal belongings and confiscating towels from loungers after 90 minutes of guest absence. This led to families returning to find their loungers taken, belongings displaced, and some items missing.

I liked everything. Only issue was dinner. Some nights some restaurants were closed which made finding one that could accommodate you difficult. Some seemed short staffed.
See above.

This was our second stay and we loved every bit of it again! Great staff, great food, beautiful surroundings..
Only thing that could be improved is the interior of the rooms we think and we did not like the tiles as head board of the bed.

Staff are great and facilities are beautiful . Everyone is friendly and helpful
Takes awhile to get your drinks at the bars and selection could be improved. Coffee is also not very good

Great amount of pools and restaurants, staff very friendly and accommodating
There was only a swim up bar in the adult pool, if you were in one of the other pools you had to get out of the pool and walk up to the other bar.

Alfredo, Jorge and Manuel at the front desk were exceptional. Check in was smooth. Our room was clean and comfortable. The grounds were well kept and maintained. The property was neat, lots of wildlife! The pool, beach and bars were great. We took advantage of the spa where we had wonderful massages. I think they had the best food options of any all inclusive we’ve been to. Overall we had a great experience.
There are a few things that would have made this a 10/10 for us though. We would have loved a hot tub. It looks like there is one in the middle of the pool but it’s just a jetted pool. When the sun starts going down at night, it would’ve been lovely to sit in a warm, hot tub for a while. Also, there was a lot of entertainment during the day, but we didn’t feel like there was enough at night. They have a show near the lobby, but I wish they would’ve had something else, maybe poolside? The only other thing, you can’t make dinner reservations until you get there. When we got there, there were no reservations available. So we were limited to three restaurants. Who did not have the option to try the Italian the Mediterranean. So that was a bummer.

We loved the place and how it integrates the hotel within the garden. The buffet was very good and the personnel were also super nice and polite. The beach front was beautiful, and the swimming pool was also spacious. We also took a massage and the ladies were excellent!
We really liked everything, I would just recommend going outside the peak season. The hotel feeling was very nice, but I'm not sure how conformable would be at full capacity.

The staff was great
I have been coming to Iberostar quetzal since 2003. This was my fifth time there. When I came in 2003 and 2005, the food was absolutely phenomenal. When I came in 2019 it was just okay. Last year in 2022 I was greatly disappointed. And this year was the worst of all. I brought my daughter for the first time and all she ate was bread and butter and broccoli, and buttered noodles for dinner every night. There were some good items the problem is 75% of the stuff is really not that good. The Italian station is really bad that pizza is horrible. Also I don't eat at the hot dog and hamburger station cuz I can get that any day in Denver Colorado. The stations in each corner of the buffet basically serve the same thing every night. There were some good things in those stations but I ended up eating basically the same thing every night. Breakfast is the same way. 20 years ago the selection was a wide variety of stuff and everything seemed to taste really good. There was lots of seafood and ceviche and that was lacking this time. I really love everything else about the place but I don't know if I can come back

We had 1622 US $ overpayment, Iberostar tells that this money must get back from Booking.com, they do not gave us any evidence or receipt about the payment.

Pool is amazing, drinks excellent, room very clean and comfortable.
The food although good is very repetitive. Entertainment staff quite annoying at times, very loud at poolside to the point of painfully loud at times. Evening Entertainment when they had professional dancers good but other than that it is like being at a poor 80s butlins camp, karoke ranging from 4yr old to the vontrapp family and painful dances such as the macarena every night, they really need to up their ideas on an evening. Still enjoyable but needs a bit more imagination.

Loved the jungle aspect, it made things feel like there was a distance when the reality everything was close by. The staff were great and friendly and wanted to help even when things went wrong. The resort was incredibly clean.
The sports bar, very uninviting. It was too hot and lacking atmosphere.

The beach
I was told about a free massage think it was for my birthday which we told the check in team about. By the time I realized it was for a timeshare member club meeting to get the massage.
