Some of the staff was very friendly, the pool was very clean, even though it was just a pretty big one
Not enough chairs in the pool for everyone, the beach area is not cleaned, most of the restaurants are located at the entrance of the hotel, and there aren’t enough carts to take you around so you have to walk .5 miles each way to get there. Food was mid

There’s no beach for regular guest you have to join club member to use the beach . It smelled like sewage. They tried to say it was the seaweed it wasn’t the beach water is brown nothing blue about it. AC was not working in my room. The staff was horrible. Food was nasty and couldn’t get reservations at any of the restaurants. You can’t call for a service on the room phone the resort removed all the phones directories so I was just dialing zero until someone answered. It took two days to receive wash clothes. The resort is in dire need of a full make over its old and ran down. I came back to my room coming from the magic show on the second night it was six raccoons outside my room door staring at me. The next I packed my family and left the hotel. I was there less then 48 hours. I had 4 more days to I rebook another resort and left. DONT BOOK THIS RESORT DONT WAISTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. And they don’t want to try to compensate you and any way. Stay away it’s better resort out there stay away from Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda

Wonderful
Clean, great views and lots of locations.
Roads are fairly narrow to walk, some of the sealing was worn out and it didn’t have proper mapping.

Seems like the maintenence of a very old building is lacking. Too many broken machines in the gym.

Most of the staff are absolutely fantastic!
Room is mostly adequate, clean and mini bar is always stocked nicely.
We do not need high end or fancy and can happily stay almost anywhere as long as it’s clean and safe, secure. Here’s our opinion of what we experienced for 7 days:
Definitely not enough sun beds around the pool or on the beach. Lots for the Circle One area not being used. Very frustrating. Then to top it off, people are up reserving sun beds at 6am that sit empty most of the day. Nothing done about it.
No hot water in room or shower. 7 days of very cool lukewarm water at best.
Food, definitely not very good at all. If you are going here to enjoy a nice dinner with good quality food, it’s not going to happen. Very mediocre at best and at some places very poor, nothing changes, no variety, no spices for good taste.
The CircleOne and timeshare stuff is in full swing here. And there are definitely two very different levels of service. Frustrating.
Overall, the resort is showing its age, worn out, poor quality finishes and not being kept up and maintained. The floors in the hallways are extremely rough and carts or luggage sound like a truck ramming through the halls.
This resort would be a 2.5 to 3 star resort at very best. We will absolutely never go back.

The pools and beach decorations. Especially all the entire gardening across the entire property! It’s so beautiful and with nature creatures roaming freely! I loved it. Food was also great! Can’t complain.
How extremely far the stay buildings (Example #5 building) were to the dinner locations. And to top it off, the golf carts would not pass as often and when they finally did, they were full. I also didn’t like that there was a roach in my room. The mattresses need upgrade asap because after that week stay, my back wasn’t too happy. The buildings are a bit outdated and do need a tad bit of upgrade inside and out but I guess that’s not in their to-do list.

Very helpful and friendly staff, fun activities at pool, drink selections were awesome, beautiful resort grounds! Snorkel expedition was worth every penny. Cute lagoon about 15 minutes walk left up the beach.
Pushy timeshare staff. Requested new room right at arrival our first one had NO AC and smelled like sewage.
New room was better smelling but AC was very poor. Took cold showers at night it was so hot. Shower really needed a scrub! Dirty pool.

The hotel is mainly well-maintained. The rooms are basic but clean, and the pool is immaculate. We saw lots of cleaners cleaning it on a daily basis. We also liked the selection of amenities: a coffee house on site, a sports bar with pizza, a nice tiki bar with swings, two breakfast buffets, and five choices for a-la crate dinners.
Needs maintenance. Not enough shaded loungers for guests by the pool. The buffet’s choice for fruit is appalling: no mango or guava or anything: cantaloupe, papaya and pineapple. Apples. Very disappointing.
The golf cart system needs to be streamlined, and maybe colour/coded, so people know how many minutes wait they have before the can from the pool to the lobby, or the sports bar (Black and White), to their room complex.
Servers could be rude.
****most important****
Beware any concierge that offers you a welcome breakfast for new guests. We accepted, and it was a 3 hour sakes pitch for their membership (called Circle One). We had a pushy saleswoman (who claimed she was a manager) called Laura who joined us for breakfast on our first day in the hotel and tried to sell us the Circle One product. This was coordinated step by the concierge Elliot, whom we expressed disappointment to, and who didn’t do anything but shrug when we told him we’d include this in the review unless he could make up our lost time. We will not be using BlueBay ever again simply because of this. Horrible.
Plastic cups could be hard plastic to give a bit of a better quality. The bendy plastic is quite cheap.
Internet is intermittent and generally awful.

The property and rooms are very run down and do not look like what is promoted on their website pictures. The property is very understaffed causing poor customer service and very little attention to detail. The staff was not welcoming or accommodating, they were very off putting and rude at times. I have traveled to Cancun & Riviera Maya dozens on times and this is by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Very, extremely disappointing.

Very Poor
The natural surroundings and the potential of the facilities. The resort has a large area and could be a great place with proper maintenance and service.
Unfortunately, the overall experience was very poor. Smoking is allowed everywhere, even around children, despite the no-smoking signs. Water pressure in the shower was almost nonexistent. Internal transport is disorganized and unresponsive, even for families with kids. The hairdryer never worked despite daily reports. The bathroom mirror was damaged, the terrace table broken, and the room’s A/C didn’t work during our entire stay. Some restaurants had no air conditioning, making meals very uncomfortable. The pool surface is rough and caused scrapes to our children. No breakfast is offered for guests leaving early for tours. There were cats and raccoons entering the restaurants and climbing on tables, which was extremely unhygienic. Lastly, the hotel made no effort to clear the sargassum from the beach, making it unusable.

Good
The gym was great as well as the coffee house and Mexican restaurant
Loved Afro nite and drummer
Generally the buffets were mediocre, steak should be one inch thick and not sinuous. Lack of seafood as well.
I don’t like the texture me share push as soon as you walk in, the option of “no” should be respected
