Exceptional
We have been to the Allegro several times in the past 25 years. It is not fancy, the food is fine but not over the top, the location and the beach could not be more perfect. The rooms are comfortable and hit all the important things but if you are they type of person the wants luxury and pampering, this is not for you. The people work hard to give their best but if you want to be waited on like you are extra special, don't come. There are plenty of other resorts that will charge more and may or may not satisfy your needs. Allegro hits all the marks for our travel needs and would rather save our money for a return trip rather than a bougie resort. We have been at many resorts in Playacar, most with higher ratings than Allegro. Every single time, we have wished we would have just returned to the Allegro. My husband should be their spokesperson because all he does at the other resorts is talk about how wonderful the Allegro is.
I am certain there are things I could say I didn't like if I was being critical and looking for faults but honestly, that would be in conflict with all the tings we value about the Allegro.
The sargasso was troublesome for sure but they were out there constantly working to clear it. They, as they other resorts have little control over Mother Nature.

Very Good
Location was good and views were exceptional! Small intimate property with well-kept grounds. Pools were kept very clean and maintained constantly. Beach was also kept clean from the seaweed. Best beach in the area! Staff around the resort were also very friendly.
The food was very limited and mediocre. One buffet at the pool for lunch and you had to stand in line every morning for 30-45 minutes for reservations for a choice of only two restaurants for dinner. No accommodations for reservations after that and restaurants were never full! We experienced several “NO’s”! NO for a bottle of wine for our room!
NO for changing out a $20 bill!
NO for making late reservations for dinner!
NO for accommodating us with a late check out!
Definite language barrier with the front desk staff (that is, whenever you could get someone to assist you)

Very Good
The staff was generally very good. The facilities are pretty nice although they did have to close the pool bar for renovations while we were there
Trying to book the a la carte restaurants was disorganized and just a pain

Fair
The property grounds are well maintained and the staff were very friendly.
First, Booking.com shows pictures of bright open rooms, unfortunately we got a dark old gloomy room with furniture from 30 years ago. Very misleading and that’s a discussion we’ll be having soon.
The worst customer experience occurs daily. The only way to make dinner reservations is in person after 10am. You go to a desk in the lobby that’s manned by one person. You should see the line at 9:15. Who would want to do this daily? What resort would ask their guest to do this daily? Might be time to get with the times!

Pleasant
beach was gorgeous.
i changed my reservation to one person two weeks before my stay and they wouldn’t honor it. they wouldn’t let me checkin without paying for 2 people despite it only being me and i had confirmation. they still owe me the price difference.
accommodations run down
staff super friendly other than at reception where they would not honor my modification
air conditioning didn’t work and it took them 4 days to change my room.

The villas has 4 rooms in each one
The food at the hotel because was of bad quality, overcooked, some items were old and the smell was not good. My son had a stomach upset. The shower in the morning was cold even though kept in hot for a couple of minutes. Th rooms were small. Thank you!

Right size, not too big so you could enjoy everything.
The food. Acid in stomach every day and food poisoning one evening.

Disappointing
Staff, location and beach.
TV remote did not work for 2 days. After TV was fixed, it would not connect to hotel wifi. Staff said "having problems with wifi". The food. it seemed it was almost the same every day with a little variety. At night the hot dogs were bad quality. In the morning we would see them is some kind of egg dish. Hamburgers were also bad quality. A burger with cheese and all the extras should taste amazing, but it was deceptive, no flavor.

Very Poor
It was close to the beach
We had to pay an extra $1500 for my son that is 15. He’s not an adult but charged him as one. the food was horrible, the staff wasn’t friendly and wouldn’t help me out with questions that I had. Didn’t have enough towels and no wash cloths. We tipped for our drinks but got treated like felons. There was no bar in the room and the 2 beers that were in there was warm and so was the 2 cans of pop. There were ants all over.

Wonderful
We really enjoyed our stay at Allegro Playacar. The hotel is located at a wonderful beach. It also has a very nice pool with pool bar. The staff is very nice and the rooms are very comfortable. We liked that it is not one big hotel building, but a lot of smaller houses where the rooms are located in. For the meals, there was a good variety to choose from.

Exceptional
I loved the palm-lined beach and the peaceful atmosphere. The rooms were very cozy, the entire property was spotless, and there was plenty of greenery between the guest buildings, which made it feel private and relaxing. Seeing animals living on the property was a lovely bonus.
Everything was perfect!

Very Good
Location, landscape, pool area, drinks, guests, maintenance. The property is gorgeous and in a nice area of town. Shows and entertainment were fun. Tennis court and basketball court were nice
Food was NOT good. Buffet and specialty restaurants were all bad. The restaurant was also pretty dark and did no match the rest of the hotel atmosphere. Gym
Was not good.

Exceptional
I like the food, it was amazing the taste especially the night restaurant with the reservation Mexican restaurant was a five star Michelin. The chef was on point with the taste and texture. The people was welcoming and in every corner where one to greet you and if you need it anything they where there to help. I felt like if I was in Disney line. This is a must go back. Ps. Don't miss the karaoke night ? is a must go that night and the mariachi night as well.
What I didn't like was the night club. The DJ was unprofessional and didn't accommodate the request from meny guess. He was putting what ever he wanted and was only putting what he like. Most off the time the club was dead because of that. I had many reviews done to Google and this is the first time I am writing a bad review. This was the only bad part of the resort.
