Exceptional
Very good hostel, but their tours are where they truly shine. Took a 12 day tour through central Mongolia and the Gobi. A great guide (Miga) and an excellent driver/mechanic made for a seamless, well paced trip staying with locals and experiencing this amazing wide open country. Will visit again, stay at the hostel, and take another Sunpath tour.

Its perfect value for money, so close to the city centre, perfect facilities for a shoestring traveller
Difficult to reach the hostel as the main door won't open without talking to the staff

Very Good
Impeccably clean, and safe. The women who attend to the hostel keep it in perfect condition. I was most impressed with the constant cleaning of the bathrooms, because there are only 2 toilets and showers for a the whole facility, but they cleaned it after every use.
This hostel is in the tourist district, very safe, and relatively quiet. All museums in a 10 minute walking distance. Mature guests, family friendly, business travelers stayed as well. A nice environment. The hostel operators offer excursions as well.
The location is hard to find, because somehow in countries like Mongolia, they do not want to publicize their business. The taxi driver was nice enough to go around asking, because even though we were at the exact GPS location, the hostel is around the back, next to a playground, and you have to walk/drive through a gate to get to the front entrance. At the moment I came, the attendants did not hear the bell and it was a little nervewracking, having made a reservation to know if they actually existed or not. Mongolia is not a technologically advanced country and they have little experience with tourism, or internet booking. They told multiple guests that they "did not have a reservation." They should operate their business from a computer, and not a phone. Therefore the payment system, and booking system, as well as the checking out were rough, and the employees get rude. They have yet to learn what "customer service" is overall in Ulaanbatar. "Pay and come and leave exactly how, and at the minute we tell you," kind of treatment. Otherwise, the hostel would have gotten a 5 star rating, because my experience was great. Mature guests, overall families and older people. It is not a party hostel. It was for adults.

The double room is really big and has a very comfortable bed. The breakfast is simple, but good compared to other hostels in UB (bread, butter, jam, cooked egg). Even though the housekeeper does not speak english, she tries to help how she can. The manager does speak good english and offers tours. Overall we felt very welcomed and returned.
There is only one man/women bathroom, which could lead to some wait time when the hostel is full.

Fair
We had booked a tour with Sunpath so made sense to stay at the hostel beforehand. It was also extremely cheap! However that was the giveaway. It was an uninviting entrance - looked pretty dodgy - the taxi driver even came in with us to double check things were ok!!!!!! The lady welcomed us and was very sweet. We had a double bedroom and having flown overnight we were desperate for a shower and a quick sleep. We were then told no hot water until mid August (this was July) Not ideal. Cold showers it was. The bathroom/showers were very basic. Also, it appeared as if we were the only ones staying which was a bit odd. It was fine but I wouldn’t stay again. However the Sunpath tour we did was incredible!!!
The cold showers, the basic facilities, the entrance and the fact no one else was staying there….

The room is nice and the area is ok. The managers can’t speak English but are very very nice.
The managers can’t speak any English therefore they can’t help you with renting a bike or with getting around. They also can’t offer any tours because they can’t speak English. Although I don’t mind because I like cold water, they do not have hot water.

They had very fast internet. Breakfast was good. It was empty (I was the only guest).
There was no hot water in the shower and won't be through August due to construction work. I wish I'd known that before booking. Also, you have to check in before 10pm

Wonderful
I really enjoyed my stay at Sunpath. I stayed in the queen room and the room size was big and the bed very comfortable. The shared bathroom was clean and adequate. The bfast in the morning was bread w/butter and jam and tea or coffee. For me, this was adequate.
The neighborhood was nice as it was a short walk down to Sukbaatar Square and also lots of restaurants and cafe's around it. Very central.
Airport pickup/drop off (extra cost) was right on time and very convenient. Doljmaa is a great host willing to help make your trip a success.
Honestly, for me, there was nothing to not like.
