I booked this room for a friend, so I'm forwarding her review:
The first impression was mixed, the room is small, but there's a huge bed with snow-white bed linen and a canopy. Then there was breakfast: fried eggs, toast with butter and jam, coffee with milk and a large plate of fresh fruit for dessert. And then we started to fall in love with this place))
The beach is a 5-minute walk away. You can always sit at a table on the common terrace. It was especially atmospheric in the evenings in the company of the hotel owner, Neil. It was very interesting to talk with such an open, cheerful and hospitable person, and completely unobtrusive. Neil helped with all the issues (renting a bike, a car, transfer). I have extremely positive impressions of staying in this place.

Neil was a great host and cooked us two delicious breakfasts. He was very laid back and helped when we had questions. Everything you needed in the room except tea and coffee but had water, hairdryer, soap, safe, hangers. Room was dark as you had to keep curtains closed as it was facing into the courtyard, but we didn't spend much time in there anyway so it was fine and it was cool. Breakfast is in an open air dining/kitchen area. Location is close to the main street and main beach. Jungle beach is an interesting 30 minute walk. We went to Galle from here which was about 15 minutes in a tuk tuk. It's a great little place at a reasonable price.

We loved to stay in Neel house. You have everything you need, even an umbrella, towels for the beach, very tasty breakfast. Neel is doing everything he can do to help you, he even arranged for us the pick up for the airport and he woke up like 5 in the morning to prepare us a coffee.

Quite place in hectic unawatuna. Great breakfast every morning. Neil is an excellent owner and give you great tips.
The room was extraordinary comfortable with a good hot shower in the bathroom..
Just go and enjoy lovely unawatuna in Butterfly Jewel.
The bed is amazing big and comfortable.
Nothing just a great place to stay with dito owner.

The host was exceptionally friendly, made breakfast every morning, which was delicious and had great variety. We were the only guests at the time and the host was very worried about our needs, and arranged us a ride to the beach. Good location too!

Very comfortable stay near the beach! The room and bathroom are spacious and very clean, everything is provided for. But the best part about this accommodation is the host, it was like staying with family! Also the breakfast is just superb. Highly recommend staying at the Butterfly Jewel!
The bed was a bit hard, but this is a personal preference

Very clean. Good room aesthetics, helpful and warm host.
White light used inside room!

Nil is a great host. Friendly, generous and always there when you need help. He also makes great breakfast!
The butterfly jewel is located on a quiet street, but still just a few minute walk to the beach and buzz of Unawatuna.
We truly enjoyed the house porch and outdoor kitchen where we could relax with a cup of tea in the shade.

Location, nice beach nearby. Testy breakfast, simple clean room, powerful A/C, speed of WiFi connection. Hospitable and helpful host. I can recommend this apartment to spend vacation in Unawatuna and discover surroundings.

Neel is a great and funny host. He will help you with everything you need and has great information about food and stuff to do around Unawatuna.
We we're here with 3 Kids and Neel was wunderful to the them.
The rooms are clean, breakfast is delicious, we had Welcome drink and a laundry is also directly at the accomodation.

We liked everything. There was nothing that spoiled our stay.
Location is perfect: surrounded by jungle, in 5 minutes walk from the beach, in 10 minutes walk from busy street with cafes and shops. Quite and calm cornor, where you can hear only birds singing.
The area and the room are clean. Air condition works properly. Wi-fi is fast (my husband could work without any inconvinience).
Bed is big and comfortable - we slept as babies :) And there were many pillows - for me it's a great advantage.
Bathroom is convinient and functional. We took hot shower even during power outage.
Breakfasts exceeded our expectations. Besides familiar eggs and toasts we had a big plate of fresh fruits. Several times Neel (the host) cooked us traditional dishes of Sri Lanka cuisine - everything was delicious.
What makes this place outstanding from others is that Neel is a super host. It felt like we were visiting a friend, not a hotel. Neel was very helpful, gave us lots of good advise about places to visit and it was just interesting to chat with him.
We would definitly come here again :)

Neel is very friendly and makes a delicious breakfast. The location is great as well as it is close to the beach and further away from the main street. The wifi was the best we had so far, very good for working and watching movies.
