Everything was as good or better than expected. The host family was exceptionally nice. Food was plentiful and excellent. The room was recently built and everything inside is new (couch, ceramics, furniture,... We've had plenty of good hotel experiences in Sri Lanka (and one bad one) and Baby Elephant Green House has been the best! We would go back anytime!
The ceiling fan was slightly noisy, so we used the very quiet AC instead.

The hosts were warm and welcoming, even showing us their coconut oil production next door and arranging transportation for us to get around. The air conditioning and mosquito nets and their quiet garden view made for a pleasant sleep in Udawalawe heat. We stayed for dinner and it was incredibly delicious! Our favorite vegetarian curry meal in Sri Lanka!
The bedroom was very clean and had everything you needed. The bathroom could be improved, it wasn’t as clean as the rest of the room and the shower setup was interesting, with many show heads but little control of temp or pressure.

If you want to visit Udawalawe Safari and the Elephant orphanage this is the place to stay 100%. The family are so caring and attentive to all your needs. The food was the best we had in Sri Lanka for a very cheap price. Breakfast was included which was lovely also.
They arranged the Safari which was 14,000 rupees for renting a 6 seater jeep and we're in a couple. You have to pay the standard entry fee once you arrive. The family even made us a delicious packed lunch.
The room was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed for a short stay.
The host also gave us the best route to Ella via bus and it worked perfectly.

Lovely people, very welcoming. Organised safari and taxi to Galle.
The breakfast was delicious as well as the evening meals we requested.
The owners also make coconut oil in a small building next door which was fascinating to look round. They also grow black pepper which we bought to take home.
This is more than just a place to sleep, it’s great to meet Sri Lankan families, be welcomed into their home and understand their lifestyle.

I had the opportunity to stay at a small, family-run hotel that I definitely recommend. From the moment you arrive, you can feel that this is a place where hospitality and authenticity come first—you are welcomed as a guest, not just a tourist for one night.
The rooms are exceptionally clean, air-conditioned, and spacious, ensuring a high level of comfort during your stay. The food served on-site is truly delicious, and the overall organization is carried out in a very friendly atmosphere.
At our request, the owners purchased spices at a local market, and some even came from their own garden. We also received a recipe for a curry mix, which was a delightful touch that allowed us to experience the local flavor and vibe. Additionally, the owner gave us a tour of his coconut oil factory—a fantastic experience where we had the opportunity to taste fresh coconut.
The entire stay was very enjoyable. Although, as is common with any quickly organized trip, there were minor issues and ambiguities, our difficulties were resolved swiftly, allowing us to remain calm and satisfied with our stay.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking genuine hospitality, comfort, and authentic experiences.

We felt we had struck gold by staying at Baby Elephant Green House. The room was clean with AC, location was fantastic, but what was most exceptional was the service - the loveliest of couples who organised our Safari, made us delicious breakfast and dinner, and had fantastic recommendations. We can’t praise this accomodation more highly! Thank you

The host met us with cold fresh fruit juice & could not do more to make our stay enjoyable, great location only metres from the main st & bus/tuktuk exchange, also a short distance from the elephant transit house, arranged a reasonably priced safari with an excellent driver (Chinthaka Athula) who found us so many elephants we lost count (as well as other wild life), also arranged a driver to take us on to Ella, highly recommended
One of the few times I can say... there was nothing we did not like about our stay here

Everything was extremely nice.
- they helped us with booking a very cool 6 hours safari at a reasonable price
- rooms are huge and super clean
- breakfast is to die for. AMAZING!
- dinner is amazing. Home cooked food by them. Best Kottu we had in Sri Lanka. Best everything we had in Sri Lanka actually.
- very quiet and chill after the chaos in Kandy, Ella and Colombo.
- very comfy bed.
Definitely worth staying more than 1 or 2 nights just for the safari, if your schedule allows you.
Too much food (servings are huge) and too good. I think I gain 1 kg in 4 days of staying there.

During our trip to Sri Lanka, we stayed at Baby Elephant Green House, which provided an unforgettable experience. The host's wife personally cooked for us, treating us to incredibly delicious, homemade meals that perfectly showcased the authentic flavors of the local cuisine. The host was exceptionally attentive and friendly, always prioritizing the comfort and satisfaction of the guests. We participated in an elephant safari at the Udawalawe Safari Park, organized by the host, which was an incredible experience we will always cherish. It is a cozy and welcoming place that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking a special experience in Sri Lanka.

It`s a small family owned guest house with several apartments. The hosting family is super friendly an helped us a lot with information about the area, safary jeep and transportation to and from the house! Everything went smoothly, on time and exactly to the minutes.
Our room was very spacious, very clean, had a beautiful balcony overlooking the tropical landscape, a comfortable bed and a hot shower in a quiet location just in the center.
We asked for dinner and they prepared us fantastic local homemade Sri Lankan food. It was really delicious! (and at a reasonable price)
Their support made our trip to Udawalawa easy and memorable.
