The location is very peculiar and the hosts are amazing. In particular, the wife is so sweet and a talent in cooking: amazing food, even the white rice was different than others! The story behind this business is incredibly touching.
For family with kids the hot water is a must, unfortunately water is not heated. however this is disclosed in advance before booking.

Such a sweet family!
The cabanas are very adventurous, offering a fantastic view of the lake: if you're lucky you can spot a few crocodiles swimming around!
There's no danger and it's very peaceful.☺️
The rooms are simple and tasteful. The hammock is bliss!
There isn't any hot water but that's not a problem at all.
We only had lunch and the kottu was very, very tasty.
They can recommend a safari tour-Janaka- and it was professional and fun.

We stayed last week and it was awesome! The accommodation and owners are both amazing. The host is very hospitable and helpful. It’s very rural however that is what we wanted, right on the lake too!
Highly recommend the dinner the host cooks, it was our favourite meal of the trip - the kotthu particularly. Also recommend the early morning safari, where we were lucky enough to see a leopard.
Only thing we would change would be to have a kettle in the room / small fridge to have tea/coffee in the morning, however the host would fix us up with tea and fruit whenever asked, so other than that we loved it! Thank you so much.

I cannot recommend Lake Face Cabana enough. We stayed here only for one night and we were heartbroken to leave. The cabanas are a dream, gorgeous interior with a big balcony to take in the stunning surroundings. Even if it rains, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind with a cup of tea and a book. Our host Dee made the stay even more special, she is so warm and kind - and her daughters are both so cute and polite. We ate dinner and breakfast in the communal outdoor eating area and they were both delicious, dinner was one of the best we’ve had on our trip around the country. When we come back to Sri Lanka, we’ll be back Lake Face Cabana and certainly for more than one night! Thank you so much, Dee.

A place run by a local family, everyone is super friendly and helpful. The room is a complete immersion in nature, with no windows (just curtains all around), but with a mosquito net. We had an incredible view over the lake, and a delightful silence at night (we only heard the sound of palm trees and animals outside).
We had dinner and lunch at the accommodation and everything was delicious and the portions were huge!
The accommodation is beautiful and very well maintained. highly recommend this place and wish the best of luck and success to this lovely family.
P.s.: They also arranged a safari for us in Yala (the owner's brother is the one who runs these safaris), which was very well organized and we saw a lot of animals and learned a lot about the different species.
We didn't have air conditioning (we already knew), we just didn't know how hot it would be. But we still slept very well!

We had the most amazing stay with Dilushika, Gayan and their two (cheeky!) girls Kihansa and Ayana. Our two girls played almost non stop with their children and I hope have learned a lot about real Sri Lankan life.
The cabana was perfect - great views over the lake and really clean and comfortable. We missed the resident crocodile which is perhaps a good thing in hindsight!
As for the food and hospitality, they could not have been more helpful. Every meal was prepared fresh and without fail the tastiest we've had on our tour so far. Thank you D!
In summary, we can't recommend staying here enough - you will come away with a very warm feeling and respect for such a kind family.

Lake Face Cabana is the perfect accomodation for nature lovers. We enjoyed watching the birds and the crocodile in the morning before we had a really rich and tasty breakfast. The 3 guest houses are built on stilts and 2 of them have a nice view to the lake. The owner family allowed us to choose the room/house that we wanted because we were the only ones that had booked.
We loved our stay, but you should know that the rooms are rather basic (cold water only and fan only, no air condition), but we loved the cold shower with a good stream of water and we loved sleeping with fresh air in the night from the outside. It was at the perfect temperature for sleeping and with the moskito nets, we had no problems with moskitos.
The only thing to slightly complain about is the WLAN. It only worked relatively well at the breakfast place.

Our best stay in Sri Lanka! Little paradise surrounded by lake with birds singing, wild animals and beautiful flowers. Owner was really kind, helpfull, helped with organising Yala safari, good contact with him. Breakfast was very delicious and beds were comfortable. Bathroom was clean. Amazing view and wonderful location. Place is very calm, chill and relaxing atmosphere. Easy to arrange tuk tuk to reach the town. I totally recommend this place to stay while you are here :)

The family that owns the accommodation are the most wonderful people. So kind and helpful in every way and always up for a chat.
The rooms are lovely and spacious with mosquito nets to keep out unwanted visitors.
The area the cabanas are in is absolutely stunning with an array of various wildlife including a very friendly resident crocodile that relaxes nearby.
The owners brothers is a safari guide and through the accommodation we arranged a tour at a really good price and saw lots of cool animals.
Absolute 10/10 experience that was absolutely made by the lovely hosts and their adorable children.
Given the location getting a few mosquito bites is unavoidable but the hosts do everything to prevent the impact of the pests with very clean rooms and mosquito nets.
There is no air conditioning but two powerful fans were provided so we slept great anyway.
There's no hot water in the showers but it wasn't an problem really as the area is fairly humid so the cool water is more refreshing.

We stayed here to do a full day safari and it provided a great base! Lovely rustic cabanas facing the lake with lots of birds and flowers! The staff are super welcoming and accommodating, preparing good food and arranging taxis.

We had the most wonderful stay at Lake Face Cabanas. The three tree houses that the owners Gayan and Dilushika built are brilliant and have everything you need.
The views of the gardens and the lake are stunning. The food is all home made, plentiful and delicious!
Gayan kindly took us on his motorbike to see the Bats waking up at dusk - which was quite the spectacle.
They also helped organise our 1/2 day safari tour of Yala park with Gayan’s brother’s company. It was professionally run, and a brilliant experience with an experienced driver (we had Su) who was knowledgeable and made sure we were comfortable throughout.
All in all it is a fantastic place to stay a couple of nights.

This place was recommended to us by a friend and we’re SO glad we stayed here. It is run by the loveliest family who built the treehouses from scratch with an amazing view over the lake where you can spot birds and crocs.
The dinners were delicious and they helped us book our safari in Yala NP through Gayan’s brother, Janaka’s safaris which was fab. This stop made our trip to Sri Lanka extra special, definitely stay here!!!! Miss you guys already.

We have liked everything, as it has been an experience with a full immersion in the nature more than a simple stay. Our house was built on a tree and was simple inside yet perfectly organised and clean. The nature around is stunning, the lake in front of the house is populated with crocodiles and different species of birds, the garden around the house is blooming. And, mostly important for us.. the kindness of the hosts: we have enjoyed talking with Dilushika, his husband and their daughters. Dilushika prepared us a delicious dinner and lunch. We have also joined the Safari with the cousin of Dilushika, and we have really enjoyed it( very professional company).
If you are looking for an authentic experience in the nature, with a simple style of life, if you enjoy the chorus of birds in the morning, a reinvigorating shower on a tree, and talking with a beautiful family, this is the place for you and you will not be disappointed.
Us, for sure , we will come back in the future.

This property was amazing, located amongst the Sri Lankan wildlife. There are three treehouses that over look the lake where you can sit out on the balcony and spy all types of wildlife, including a crocodile! The treehouses are fantastic, situated in a beautiful garden filled with flowers. The hosts were the loveliest family who were so welcoming and friendly and suggested a tour to the nearby lake where you can watch the bats wake up as the sun sets. The breakfast and dinner were our favourites on our trip so far, home cooked by the hosts. The property is also in a good location to be at if you are wanting to book a safari to Yala national park. The hosts organised our tour, which was a great safari. Really recommend this place!

It was our best accommodation and stay in Sri Lanka! You sleep in a kind of tree house in the middle of the nature which makes is to an extraordinary experience.
The owners are the most lovely people we have ever met! They welcomed us in the best way we could imagine.
Their hospitality 11/10, their dinner and breakfast they cooked was more than tasty.
There is nothing you could complain about.
Concerning negative comments we suggest to read the description carefully.
We just fell in love with the family and were sad to leave them…
