Very Poor
The only highlight of this place is the property manager, Akila, a local Sri Lankan gentleman. He was kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming, delivering the warmth and positive experience we encountered everywhere else in Sri Lanka.
I have to say this has been the worst experience of our entire trip in Sri Lanka. The location of this property is extremely misleading. It was my mistake not to double-check the actual distance, but I did not expect it to be so far away from all the major attractions.
We booked two rooms for two nights and were traveling with children. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing for kids to do here. This resulted in a very unpleasant experience for them, and they were extremely bored the entire time. The property is far from everything and highly inconvenient to reach or go anywhere from.
The total price for this stay was over $1,000. For this amount, the value is simply not there. In Sri Lanka, this price range corresponds to truly top-tier luxury hotels, yet the amenities were shockingly low quality. For example, the shampoo and shower gel provided were very cheap, with a white liquid floating on top of green liquid, which felt unhygienic and completely unacceptable at this price point.
After realizing the situation, I asked the host if it would be possible to cancel one night. The response was polite but felt very political and defensive. She reminded me that I had not specified kids in the booking, even though it was obvious from our arrival and the fact that we paid for 4 people. While technically courteous, her response emphasized rules and policies over empathy or practical solutions. She explained that one night could not be refunded due to Booking.com’s terms and conditions. While I understand the policy, it did not address the real issue or our discomfort.
For a host with such high ratings, the lack of flexibility and genuine understanding was especially disappointing—particularly given how warm and kind the people of Sri Lanka generally are. Later, I learned that the host is not local, which may explain the difference in approach.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful hotel, and I cannot thank them enough for their incredible hospitality. From the moment I arrived, I felt respected and valued, allowing me to fully enjoy my time there.
As someone on the autistic spectrum, I sometimes find it challenging to navigate certain environments, especially during celebrations. There was a small temple nearby that was ringing its bells, and I was concerned about the noise. However, the owner personally took the time to speak with them, ensuring a compassionate approach that made all the difference.
I would like to extend a special thanks to akila , the butler, who was a true gentlemen throughout my stay. His attentiveness was remarkable; His dedication to ensuring my comfort made my experience all the more enjoyable.
This hotel is an ideal retreat for anyone seeking disconnection from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The peaceful atmosphere and stunning nature trails provided a perfect backdrop for relaxation and mental health . The 16 km trek to the nearby waterfall in Ella was nothing short of breathtaking!
I highly recommend this place to solo travelers and couples alike. It’s a romantic oasis with a lovely atmosphere and impeccable cleanliness, which is impressive given its natural surroundings. My room was spotless, and every detail was thoughtfully attended to.

We really enjoyed our stay at Floating Mountain Villa, Akila was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The views are incredible and we only wish we could have stayed longer. The food is also very good, and we were able to have breakfast and dinner on the balcony which was such a lovely experience with the views in the background.

Probably one of the best places we have ever stayed at, and we travel quite a lot. The villa is beautiful and has a great atmosphere. The view is incredible, we had a foggy afternoon/evening and a sunny morning, enjoyed the view both times. Our room was also perfect, nice interior and spotlessly clean like the whole villa. Also had dinner which was nice and we could choose where we want to have it, on our balcony, by the pool, on the patio, in the villas comfortable living room, ..
There is also a nice pool and we loved having our coffee and tea there in the morning.
The absolute best though is Akila who is taking care of the villa. He was not only providing such an attentive service which every world class 5 star hotel would be jealous of, but was above all such a positive and friendly person!! We also had the honor to meet the owner Gowri, who was also very friendly and so nice to talk to. Well, to sum it up, a perfect stay we will not forget and we will for sure be back.

This was one of the most beautiful and welcoming hotels we have ever stayed at. Starting from the check-in and till the last minute of our stay, everything was perfect. Akila is the best hotel manager ever, he made our stay feel as home, we felt like we were visiting family house rather than staying at the hotel. The view is incredible, and you can watch birds and squirrels from the garden. The food was cooked by Akila himself, and this was the best food we had in Sri Lanka. Many activities to do around the hotel as well, Akila was very kind to take us on a guided hike tour with visiting a Hindu Temple. You can also visit Glenloch tea factory, which is a walking distance from the hotel, where you can experience tea plucking.
If we ever come back to Sri Lanka, it will be just for visiting this amazing place again.

Floating mountain has 5 well appointed rooms. It is about 20 kms away from Nuwara Eliya so it’s away from the hustle and bustle of a big city. It is was earlier a part of the Glenloch tea estate. Akila the manager is extremely helpful and is always present to make your stay comfortable. Gowri the owner was present when we were there and took us for a guided walk up the mountain. Neat clean cosy rooms. We were looking for a beautiful resort away from the hustle and bustle of the town and nestled in the mountains. The last one km will require a 4 wheel drive vehicle that is provided by the resort. All in all a lovely experience and we will come again.

This property is stunning. Unfortunately, we had only booked to stay the one night at this property which was a big shame as we could have easily spent a lot longer here. A personal highlight of our stay was the morning breakfast which we had in the pool. The food was delicious and the views were breathtaking! The manager Akila couldn’t have been more welcoming and went out of his way to ensure we had a memorable stay. He even helped us for the remainder of our stay in Sri Lanka by providing recommendations on places to visit and supporting us with taxi bookings around the island! We would most certainly recommend this property to anyone visiting Sri Lanka and will be sure to return here again in the future (just for longer next time)!

Just note the accomodation is quite far away from Nuwara Eliya town, and is more of a remote getaway.

The breakfast was great we were able to enjoy both an English breakfast and a Sri Lankan breakfast. Able to set up our meals in front of our room facing the spectacular view of the Kothmale reservoir and the valley. The manager is very friendly and keeps the utmost hospitality at all times and helped us to plan our trip around the location. I was able to make travel arrangements through the manager. The lounge is beautiful and good for a group of friends to spend time with as well. The ala carte menu for dinner is fine and they provide more flexible options as well.
There is room to improve with the food. However, generally, food is fine.

Everything about the villa was amazing. From the luxurious interior to the breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains, dam and tea plantations, our experience here was wonderful and a much needed getaway in an extremely calm and serene place. This place is in a beautiful location. It is approx midway between Nuwara Eliya and Kandy, but that is part of it's charm. The host, Akila is the very best host you could ever ask for. He really is exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble, very very accommodating, knowledgeable, polite, kind, calm and gentle. He really made this stay. In hindsight, we wish we stayed with Akila for longer! The food was incredible, you could (if you wanted to) have had breakfast in the pool on a floating tray!
The only thing that I can score this place down is I don't think it had A/C, but somehow it never felt stuffy, Akila kept it at a very pleasant temperature.

The photos on booking.com do not do this house justice. I have been back for a month and I am still dreaming about the peace and tranquility we felt whilst we stayed there. Akila is truly a gem, and we really appreciated being checked up on by the owner throughout our stay. We wished we could have stayed longer and we will definitely be back to stay longer next time.

Floating Mountain Villa is a very nice B&B experience near the tea plantations. The villa is very nice, very clean and homey. Akila, the manager, is so attentive and made the experience very special. The chef is also very nice and can make good dinners / breakfasts. The view over the mountains that we can see throughout the hotel is very beautiful and serene.
Maybe it's our fault because we didn't read the fineprint closely enough, but we thought the villa was located in Nuwara Eliya when it's actually a one-hour drive away. There are activities you can do around the villa but we didn't have time to try. We were also surprised to learn that this was the only accomodation in our itinerary that didn't provide driver accomodation, so that had to be organized and paid separately.
