Very beautiful bungalow, spacious room, comfortable bed, great service, wonderful garden! Very relaxing atmosphere!
We also liked the culinary class and tea plantation tour!
It was a bit chilly in the evenings. I recommend to take some warm clothes.

Strafford Bungalow is stunning! The property is luxurious and peaceful, the rooms are beautiful, the gardens are gorgeous, the pool and jacuzzi are wonderful, the staff is courteous and professional, and the food is exquisite. We loved our stay and wished we could have stayed longer! Our family wholeheartedly recommends booking Strafford Bungalow!

Staying at this hotel felt like stepping into an old movie full of authenticity and elegance. The atmosphere was both luxurious and comfortable, with quick and friendly service all around. We were a group of different ages, even with teenagers, and everyone loved it—some of us didn’t even want to leave the hotel!
I stayed at the Owner’s Cottage, and the room, the view, and all the details were simply amazing. The manager, Mr. Krishantha, was extremely kind and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. Our stay included breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner, so we barely had to spend anything extra.
All of the staff were more than wonderful. This will definitely not be our last visit!
We visited the hotel in September, and the weather was mild and pleasant. However, the rooms only had fans and no air conditioning. For a place this beautiful and elegant, we strongly recommend adding air conditioning to the rooms. Even though the climate was not too hot during our stay, AC is essential to make the experience more comfortable and to ensure guests can fully enjoy the hotel in every season.

The place is amazing the atmosphere is wonderful the stuff very helpful. It’s like a piece of heaven. The weather is 5° more than Nawarella and less rain which give us the chance to enjoy the weather more and sitting in the open area

set in a beautiful part of Sri Lanka this gorgeous villa is the perfect getaway. The rooms are clean and luxurious, the common areas are peaceful and light. the pool is wonderful and set in a well kept garden overlooking the tea plantations. Next to the pool area is a cozy seating arrangements with a fireplace that you can use at night. The food is high end and obviously prepared by a chef who knows what he is doing. There even is a telescope to watch the stars at night. It was hard to leave. We also loved the plantation walk that the team organized.
this came close to perfect but if i have to name one thing it is trash. Sri Lanka in general has a waste management problem but even around this pristine villa, the tea plantations are scattered with trash. plastic bottles, chips wrappers, broken flip-flops, carton packaging and other items are just thrown to the side. Especially if you run a high-end place like this, i don't understand why someone does not go for a round on the plantation to pick up some trash. Keeping the surrounding area clean would mean a lot to visitors as well as setting an example for other people living there.

Hidden away from the bustling town centre. A beautiful and tranquil space both outside and inside. Food was amazing - we had half board which included breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner. We were also offered complimentary walks - tea plantation and bird watching

The hotel is a converted tea planters bungalow that's been restored and extended with modern features. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating throughout our stay, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and a special effort was made by the staff to personalise our whole experience including private a dinner in the garden with a real fire. The pool and jacuzzi area was very relaxing and had great views over the tea fields. Guided walks are available which my husband enjoyed. The bathroom was a good size with a good walk-in shower
Our room was large but would benefit from a new, less creaky bed and some updating.

The place was so calm and beautiful. The staff went above and beyond. We spent two nights and decided not to do anything else on the middle day. Went on a tour of the tea plantation in the morning and had all meals there. Helped us feel revived!! The butler, chef and other staff were excellent! Definitely worth the drive out.

First off, we came to Sri Lanka for a quick R&R break. We wanted a beautiful property to relax, read a book, spend time together, eat good food, and recharge.
The property itself is indeed beautiful—newly refurbished and tastefully done. Surrounded by stunning tea gardens and tall Eucalyptus trees, the ambiance is tranquil, with birds chirping throughout the day. With only us as guests for 2 out of our 3 nights, it was a very peaceful experience.
The food was generally good in terms of taste.
So, why were we not happy with our stay and wished we had chosen a different property?
The issue was with the service and our experience with the staff.
We usually find SEA hospitality to be amazing, but the service here was neither polished nor warm and welcoming. On the night we arrived, around 11:30 PM, the staff were available to welcome us and serve hot meals, which was appreciated. But from there, things went downhill.
Despite the property advertising that breakfast, lunch, dinner, and high tea were included in the package, we encountered several issues. For breakfast, we were told we could only select one option. If we wanted both scrambled eggs and waffles, we had to pay extra - no problem, but usually when you say meals are covered, you don't put such limitations.
For lunch, we ordered Sri Lankan curry but were told it wasn't available without ample notice—notice that wasn't mentioned the night before or at breakfast. High tea, advertised on their website and social media, was just a slice of sponge cake & tea. When questioned, they said the full high tea was paid, but they hadn’t asked if we wanted it. The chef later offered complimentary high-tea for the next day but repeatedly asked us to have a light lunch to avoid too much food. My impression is that they thought they'd get away with a low-effort high-tea. When they saw that we complained, they lied saying it was paid. And later to cover it off, the chef said we will offer it as a complimentary service to us. Cheese platters advertised online were another issue. When requested, the butler seemed confused, eventually serving basic cheese more suitable for a sandwich.
During checkout, we were repeatedly asked to return an adapter we had left in the room. Despite informing them where it was, they couldn't find it until we personally pointed it out. It made us feel like they thought we were stealing it and taking it with us. Overall, we felt hesitant to order food, worried if it was available or if we'd be made to feel like we were eating a lot. Whether due to laziness since we were the only guests or a possible racist undertone—favoring Western guests over us over us Asians—the service left much to be desired.
It's a shame that such a beautiful property left us with a sour taste.
