Our 1-night stay at Roshan Guest House was absolutely perfect. The location is peaceful yet just 10 mins from Gregory Lake and town. The room was immaculate with comfy beds, hot water 24/7, and a heater – a lifesaver in Nuwara Eliya weather!
What made it special was the hospitality. Roshan and family went above and beyond, they helped arrange a tuk , and even gave us extra blankets without asking. The garden is beautiful for evening tea. Location is perfect – quiet street but close enough to walk to main attractions.
If you want clean, safe, budget-friendly accommodation with real Sri Lankan warmth, this is it. Thank you for making our trip memorable!
Value for money: 10/10. Will book again next time we’re in Nuwara Eliya!

Roshan and Amali are beautiful ,warm , hospitable people.the house is so clean, the room was gorgeous, clean and comfortable. Beautiful kitchen to use. There is a lovely sitting area outside with a nice view.. I would 100% stay there again. I highly recommend this awesome homestay

- Location: 10 min. walking to the city center
- Clean facilities with outdoor sitting area overlooking the city at a good price - lots of blankets provided and hot water for shower
- Good breakfast (eggs, tea, bread, fruit, juice, butter, jam)
- Tour: Roshan (the host) was able to take me to popular tourist sites and local spots without many tourists, so I got the local experience
- Amazing hosts: Roshan and Amali - they’re like my brother and sister of Sri Lanka after my visit. I stayed much longer than expected. The hosts offered impeccable hospitality and makes you feel comfortable in their home. Both are fluent in English (very responsive) and made sure I had everything I needed. They went above and beyond. Roshan picked me up from the bus station and Amali helped me with laundry services.
Overall: I’d highly recommend staying here. I wasn’t planning to stay here, but the train from Kandy to Ella was damaged from the storm and that was a blessing in disguise for me because otherwise I wouldn’t have stayed here.

Such a beautiful place run by beautiful people.
The misty mountain view from our room was so beautiful and reminiscent of our home town in the Nilgiris hills. The monkeys that came into the backyard were a delight to watch.The place is spotless.. Roshan and Amilini were very caring hosts and accomodated all our needs.
You have to get your meals from outside shops

We highly recommend staying at Roshan Guest House. The owner is incredibly friendly and makes you feel right at home. The rooms are clean and comfortable. She also shared great tips and gave us helpful recommendations during our stay.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The hosts were so accommodating and kind. They hung out our wet clothes to dry, the helped us to organise a Tuktuk driver to take us on a tour (who was also such a lovely man!) and they helped with the same Tuktuk taking us to the train station the next morning. It was about a 15 minute walk into the centre so the location was great. The room was perfect and they gave us extra blankets as it was quite cold. It definitely felt like a typical old fashioned English room which made us feel very homely when we were missing home. We would definitely recommend staying here, we hope to come back one day!

Could not recommend this accomodation enough! It is very conventionally located away from the busier centre in a peaceful area but with a shortcut path only a short 7 minutes right into town.
Both Roshan and his wife were such great hosts, very accomodating, always checking in and gave great recommendations for paces to eat, activities to do and transport options on a budget eg giving me info on busses!
Facilities are great with a private bathroom and shared kitchen as well as a clothes washing machine! Room was spatulas new and clean. Could not fault it!

We loved our stay with Roshan and Amali. The location was great - up the hill with nice views and quiet from the busy town (easily walkable, but Roshan also dropped us a few times). Roshan and Amali know good local food spots and helpful with their knowledge, we even had a nice dinner together out with their friends which made our stay. I’d recommend staying here, it’s great value for money in the area, and the hosts are very kind.

When you arrive you have a good impression but then..
I REALLY don't know how they have a score above 9 because does not reflect the reality at all!
The owner have agreaments to receive comision from 2 local restaurants for vegetarians and non-vegetarians and they will insist to convince you those are the best! So you will believe : how nice they are! They help you giving you nice tips about nice places! But they have only their own interests.
Also they will offer you to take you to a Waterfall for "only" 5000 rupies for 1 person! Or 4000 if you bring a second couple.
The Waterfall is 2-3 km away and you can have a tuk-tuk for 3-400 rupies.
They gave us a different room from the one we booked! Smaller and looking bad. With a very small window very high positioned, impossible to open to have fresh air because the walls have also mold and you need fresh air!
The bed sheets were smelling bad and were not fresh washed.
The bathroom door was broken, the room door also.

Roshan and his wife are so warm, welcoming and helpful. The guest house is very well located above the city with great views of the mountains, but only a 15-20 walk to the restaurants. Spotlessly clean. Lovely breakfast, go for the omelette with coriander!
Roshan took me on a half day excursion to a waterfall, tea factory and Hindu shine in his hybrid car, which was a nice change from a tuktuk. The waterfall trip was outstanding as he led me across the waterfall to a small pool at the bottom for a swim. No other visitors dared to do this. I was able to talk to Roshan and gain a greater insight into the culture, religions and recent history of the country.
All great. A bedside table and light would be good but not a big thing.
