This is a small family-run guesthouse, and I can honestly say it’s one of the most warm, welcoming, and kind places I’ve ever stayed.
Amazing service, incredible food, and safaris, taxis etc. organised directly with them - you will absolutely not regret choosing to stay here.

Very helpful host! He contacted us proactively, arranged transportation for good price, kindly welcomed us. The room was very clean. We also did the half day morning safari with the host which was amazing experience followed by great traditional lunch. 100% recommend this place!

The property was so clean neat and calm, they have a beautiful garden and a nice view. so close to the center. The owner is super friendly and generous you can get a fresh fruits from the garden and he arranged my safari trip and my second trip to Ella. And the food was homemade by them and it was so good. I highly recommend this property ❤️

Amazing family owners that made us feel so welcomed and appreciated. They set us up with the owner’s brother named Tilak and he provided a truly exceptional full day safari at Yala. We managed to see elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo, so many stunning birds, and even saw a leopard and sloth bear. Tilak knows the park as well as any guide and was super motivated to find animals. The food at Moonlight Guesthouse for both dinner and breakfast was also outstanding. Loved our two nights there!

This was by far the best stay we had in Sri Lanka. The property was located in the midst of lush green fields with a calm and serene feel. The owner Sanjeeva went above and beyond in the service he provided - arranging a wonderful Yala safari for us and topping everything up with a fabulous home cooked, delicious Sri Lankan lunch with farm fresh veggies. We are grateful to him and his family for their hospitality and kindness.

Our favourite home stay/guesthouse in Sri Lanka.
Loved our stay at Moonlight guest house.
The host arranged a taxi to collect us from Ella, welcomed us with a glass of sugar mango juice from the mango tree outside our room, and organised a full day safari for us during which we saw elephants, water bufalo, mongoose, jackals, aligators, deer, and were lucky enough to see a leopard, and a sloth bear, even though it was raining.
The dinner prepared for our return was one of the best we've had in Sri Lanka, and the breakfast was superb!
I cannot recommend this place highly enough

I loved to stay with Randy and his family. His place is next to a beautiful lake full of wildlife, and they have a lovely garden with many birds. The room was big and comfortable and they made an effort to make me feel right at home. Randy showed me around on his tuktuk, and took me to see some local crafting processes. He knows a lot about the culture and history of Tissamaharama and showed me many beautiful places. I really recommend staying here and getting to know the area around.

Owner does his best to make sure needs are met. I was allowed to switch rooms after an insect fiasco. There was certainly effort on his part and you don't always get that. They are a pleasant family and the intention is there. Food is high quality and volume. They salvaged the stay by allowing me to switch rooms and with their kindness at the end, otherwise I would rate it below average. It is passable for the price.
Owner's English is a challenge when negotiating safari tours. There is clearly a set elevator pitch but questions were not adequately answered, they were almost avoided. I felt pressured in all of our dealings. Air conditioning is extremely weak. Woke up absolutely covered in bug bites. They need mosquito nets badly. First bed I had was like sleeping on a flat board. Owner messaged me multiple times over the next several days after I left to arrange to take me to the airport - again the pressure was constantly on.

We had a great time in tissa/yala thanks to this guest house. Super friendly hosts that arranges everything for you. The brother of the host is a great guide for the National Park and you will be oversupplied with great food during your stay. A great garden to relax in and everything you need available.

This is the best place for your Yala National Park Safari. Sanjeewa is the best host! He can organize everything for an extremely fair price and the Safari package he is offering is amazing. You get picked up at the hotel, the breakfast will be organized for you and you can eat it while waiting to enter the park. The safari itself is great too and after you will receive delicious home made curries with red rice and tea/coffee. I would always book with Moon Light Guest House again. Thanks so much! I hope I can come back soon!

Loved this property! The family hosting us were absolutely delightful and made our short stay in Tissa really memorable. Every time we spoke with them was a joy. The room was exceptionally spacious and really beautifully decorated including the bathroom. Breakfast was incredible - our host even packed our leftovers away for us with a bottle of water so that we could take some on with us to our next destination. Plenty of parking space for our rental tuktuk and a gorgeous garden with hammocks as a nice touch. Definitely recommend this place to stay - and even though we didn’t book our safari with Moon Light Guest House, I regret not booking with them and would definitely safari with them in Yala if I ever return. Thank you very much!

Best place where to stay in Tissamaharama. The host made us a wonderful breakfast and lunch after the safari, they have a beautiful garden where you can rest and some hammocks. A lovely guesthouse, very clean with everything you need to feel at home. Would definitely recommend!

This place was exceptional. The owners were so friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make sure you were happy. We had a fantastic dinner cooked for us at a good price. They packaged breakfast for us to take on our half day safari and even let us keep our bags there and have a shower after the safari. I would definitely visit again.

How helpful the owner and his staff were. Gave me good Intel about how to get other arrangements ie travel and things to do in the area without giving the impression it was beneficial to him in anyway. Had lunch there and it was very tasty.A beautiful location. If I ever visit the area again I will head straight there.If urconsidering safari don't waste ur time shopping around his rates are very reasonable. And he makes it a pleasurable experience. Treat yourself to a very enjoyable stay

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The local breakfast was simply fantastic – there was a wide variety and everything was fresh and delicious. We were especially impressed by the dinner, where the fish was prepared on-site – absolutely delightful!
Another highlight was the safari we booked through the hotel. We got to see elephants, birds, and even leopards in the wild. Our driver was incredibly enthusiastic, funny, knowledgable and showed us everything with great passion.
The hotel itself was very clean, and the staff was always friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel!

The best stay in Sri Lanka. The host was very attentive and kind. The room was very clean and big, and had a safari vibe?. The food was absolutely delicious - fish with pineapples was my favourite.
The host organised our safari, wake us in early morning, gave us breakfast to go, and we had lunch after trip. We met an elephant on way back to hotel, and fed him with bananas. So I recommend not to eat bananas and save it for elephants)
I’d recommend to stay there for 2 or 3 days, cause after safari you want to rest and lay in hammock.
I”ll return to stay here, I’m sure)

Beautiful peaceful setting looking over a rice field on the outskirts of town, and very nice family guesthouse with just three rooms, it felt like a home away from home. The breakfast and coffee was excellent and the organisation of the safari tour which is run by the same family was very good. It’s not a luxurious place but is very comfortable, clean and relaxing.
All was good but would recommend a few more hooks in the room and eliminating plastic straws at breakfast.

We could not be happier with our stay here!! We decided to stay here because we wanted to do a Yala Safari. We decided to use them for the tour and had the most amazing safari with Thilka! There was so much rain before our stay that block 1 actually had to close, we were so bummed that we wouldn't be able to see a lot of the animals we wanted because of the rain, but we saw them all even a leopard! The room was super comfortable! We also had two amazing dinners here and the best breakfast! Highly recommend to anyone visiting sri lanka! The hospitality is unmatched and you will experience a once in a lifetime safari!
