My stay at Villa Arunalu in Kandy was nothing short of an incredible hospitality experience.
From the moment I arrived, I could feel the positive energy radiating from the hosts, Aruna and Suranji. They are genuinely focused on creating a unique, high-quality, and deeply personal experience for their guests. Their warmth feels natural and heartfelt, not transactional — something that immediately sets this boutique hotel apart.
On my second day, after returning late from a full day of sightseeing, I asked for a recommendation for somewhere nearby to eat. Instead, Suranji kindly whipped up a quick dinner herself — exactly the comfort food I needed at the end of a long day. That thoughtful gesture perfectly captures the spirit of Villa Arunalu: attentive, intuitive, and sincerely caring.
The location is equally impressive. Perched on top of a hill, the villa offers stunning panoramic views that make mornings and evenings especially memorable. There’s a sense of calm and elevation — both physically and emotionally — that enhances the entire stay.
I also deeply appreciated how they treated our driver. Not only did they provide comfortable accommodation for him, but they also served him the same breakfast as the guests. That level of inclusivity and respect speaks volumes about their character and values.
Having traveled across more than twenty five countries throughout Europe, Asia, and Central America — and having stayed in many five-star hotels — I can confidently say this boutique property sets an exceptionally high bar for hospitality. Luxury is not only about facilities; it is about how you are made to feel. At Villa Arunalu, you feel welcomed, cared for, and genuinely valued.
A truly special place that I would return to without hesitation.

Is it a 5* hotel? No. Do you get treated like being in one? Very much so, or even better! The rooms are simple yet super clean, like even behind-the-bed clean. The view is spectacular. And service is sky-level. Don’t get me started on food, I felt like a princess in a fairytale ? The location is a little far from the city, yet for this you get a quiet, friendly and peaceful stay. Thank you!

Stunning view from the junior suite. Very welcoming staff, great breakfast, peaceful location.
Hotel owner Arunalu and his wife are both interactive and understand english well.
The only thing is that the location is far from downtown and you cannot manage to explore food/ shopping options by walking

Outside of Kandy but still close enough to take tuk tuk 10 min.great Mountain View . You could not meet nicer people in the world as the hosts arun and his gourmet chef wife - both always smiling accommodating and happy. Breakfast was one of the best in the world. Dinner they asked what I wanted and she did it amazingly- I would recommend to anyone to visit

The lovely couple running the villa made my stay so confortable and lovely. I felt like I was at home. The food prepared was absolutely delicious and the view is unbelievable. I loved that they gave me water all the time and made sure I was always okay. 100% recommend if you come to Kandy.

Our stay in Villa Arunalu was one of pure joy. Its not just an accomodation (fantastic), view from the balcony (stunning), breakfast and dinner (one of the best in the country) - its a whole package including amazing family which runs the place, their obvious passion for what they do, genuine interest in people and sincere desire to help you all the time. We had the most interesting conversations and learned a lot about local medicinal plants. Thank you for the soursop fruit, guys! It was delicios. Keep up with your amazing work! We recommend this place wholeheartedly!
We arrived to the Villa with our own car and took an official Google map route - which brings you via very steep (think 40 degrees) drive up the hill. Our car eventually stalled and needed to be pushed. The host sent an alternative (much easier) route via WA but we've seen it too late. :)

I get a smile on my face when thinking about this place. The hosts were so so nice and friendly! The room was so spacious and spotless clean! The breakfast was delicious! There is also an option to have dinner, it´s a pity that we did not know in advance :) I hope we can come back one day! The views are absolutely breathtaking!

Stunning property up on a hill. A little cumbersome to get to (15 minutes in car or tuktuk for about $3 USD) but worth it. Incredible hosts. Comfortable bed, good shower, plenty of space for luggage, awesome balcony with view and nice chairs, and nice breakfast (half Sri Lankan half western, with a large lot of tea).

Villa Arunalla offers a delightful stay with a scrumptious continental breakfast buffet and breathtaking views from the upper-floor balcony. Located just 25 minutes from Kandy town, it is easily accessible by local auto/Tuk-tuk. The property is peaceful and impeccably clean, with a warm and gracious host who enhances the positive vibe of the place. The bed was super comfortable, ensuring a restful stay.
A few pointers: the room was not as spacious as it appeared in the pictures, and the furniture arrangement could be optimized for better space and functionality.
