Fantastic hosts - communication was great and they really went above and beyond for us. The team are great and take care of everything. We travelled with 2 young children and they excelled at entertaining and catering for them - felt like a home away from home. Pool area is stunning with unbelievable views. Breakfasts and dinners were varied and delicious. We liked that the estate had history, charm and felt lived in. A wonderful stay with wonderful people. If you are a family looking for a base in Kandy look no further

The people. Owner and staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.
Owner made sure that our driver’s accomodation and meals were looked after.
Wifi was poor.

We stayed in the villa for two days on Poya-day during the Perahera. The house is magnificent, in a beautiful park/garden, with a lot of authentic details, with al modern comfort. The owners are a wonderfully welcoming couple and the staff are very friendly and helpfull. A short (15min) ride to Kandy, but very calm, surrounded bij nature, it Made for a relaxing stay, after the excitement of the festival. We had the best breakfast, the lady of the house made waffles and even, for tea, donuts for our children. Upon discovering our daughters’ love for avocado, they went picking fresh ones in the garden, as well as passion fruit, for a snack on the road!
Everything was perfectly organised. Since the house is up a hill, the owners provided rooms and brought food for our driver/guide to avoid him getting up and down.

GW in Kandy: Historical charm and a warm hospitality and courtesy, which made our stay very special. We were welcomed bij the host and his charming wife. Our host is very helpful and can logically be proud of his home where we stayed alone. There is a lot of attention from the staff - 3 smiling ladies- for detail and sincere care (unexpect cup of tea with treats bij the pool) and at the delicious Indian & SL dinner at a tastefully set table. We think back to you with a warm feeling. Thank you very much. Tip: *Cooking workshop possible on location, * in the evening with tuc tuc to the center (approx. 15 min.) for a bite to eat, * Play carrom board!!

You don't have the house to yourself, there's always staff very close by. Albeit quite expensive per night, breakfast is not included.

From the moment I arrived at Galkanda Walawwa, I was enchanted by its timeless beauty and charm. This ancestral home is a true gem, seamlessly blending historic elegance with modern comforts. The architecture and decor reflect a rich heritage, transporting guests back in time while providing all the amenities one could desire.
One of the highlights of my stay was the warm and welcoming staff. The lovely lady who greeted me upon arrival made me feel instantly at home. Her gracious hospitality set the tone for a delightful experience. The staff’s attention to detail and genuine care for guests’ comfort were evident throughout my stay. They went above and beyond to ensure that every need was met with a smile.
Galkanda Walawwa is not just a place to stay but an experience to cherish. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a unique and memorable getaway. Thank you to everyone at Galkanda Walawwa for making my visit truly special.

The house is simply stunning, super authentic, location is excellent for whoever is looking for a breathtaking view stay, you are in the middle of nature and a jungle experience, sunrise and sunset are to die for, the hosts and the the staff are just super sweet, welcoming and attentive, food was very good, I loved every moment of our stat, i'ts excellent for families, so relaxing
nothing major not to like, a bit far from the center of Kandy, but it depends on what expereince one is looking for, for me, it wasn't a problem as I was more interested in spending time in the house than be in the center.

Such a beautiful house, the pool was stunning as was the view from it. We were greeted with such warmth and kindness.

Very nice house full of history. The family and the staff were extremely kind. Beautiful pool with view, even though in February it was very fresh still.
In the garden, it would be nice to replace the picnic table as it doesn’t match the comfort and style of the house.
There was 3 staff + 2 owners always present, and we did not feel at home, compared to their villas we rented where we got some staff but only present for breakfast and if needed for dinner.

It is a really beautiful 1920s bungalow. The owner and Staff were brilliant, very kind and attentive. They made us feel very welcome. I would really recommend having dinner there. The sri lankan food was excellent (as was breakfast!).
I would suggest sticking to Sri Lankan food, rather than western as this was better.

Nice view in the
morning time if you’re not surrounded by bugs which is rare.
The property is infested with spiders, cockroaches, geckos, ants and other bugs which makes it very uncomfortable. I found a frog in the shower. The place has no privacy as the staff members are constantly in the property with you also Suresh the owner comes and goes which makes it feel very uncomfortable. Location is very bad as it’s very far from the city and with no asphalt road leading to the house (only dirt road).
Please beware as there’s a security camera inside the property that we weren’t informed of and found it out on our own.

The house is very unique and charming, views from the garden and swimming pool are beautiful. Everything looks just like the photos. The staff and host family are very friendly and helpful.
Location is a bit away from the town, but we had a car so this wasn't an issue for us.
