One of the best places from our trip. Beautiful villa with very helpful and attentive staff. A big thank you to every single staff member, in whatever position they were in — everyone went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy.
Special thanks to Roshan for his patience and care, especially with the kids. The chef cooked excellent, tasty food, and the room décor was beautiful.
The villa is situated near the Kalpitiya Lagoon, with free canoeing available, and boat rides to Kalpitiya Beach can be arranged within a few minutes.
Highly recommended for a relaxing and memorable stay.

We recently stayed at Villa Sethawadi and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The place itself is incredibly beautiful, set right on the serene lagoon, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere throughout our entire stay.
The service was exceptional—every single staff member went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. They were attentive, friendly, and consistently made us feel genuinely welcomed.
One of the highlights of our stay was the food prepared by their amazing chef. After dining at several restaurants in the area, I can confidently say that none matched the quality, taste, or presentation of the meals we enjoyed at Villa Sethawadi. Each dish was expertly crafted, delicious, and beautifully presented.
The pool area was inviting and well-maintained, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventures. For kite and windsurfing enthusiasts, Villa Sethawadi is ideally located, allowing easy access directly from the property to the lagoon. A word of caution though—be mindful of the sharp thorns around the area, or better yet, use the hotel's own kite school service, which conveniently takes you by boat to the prime surfing spots on the other side of the lagoon.
Overall, our stay at Villa Sethawadi was exceptional. Highly recommended!
On a less positive note—but unrelated to the villa itself (which was amazing!) —the nearby town of Kalpitiya was not particularly welcoming and lacked attractions or places worth visiting. To travel around freely, renting a motorcycle or a tuk-tuk is essential. While we enjoyed the fun experience of renting a tuk-tuk, we faced several technical issues and received subpar service afterward. Keep in mind, Kalpitiya is a surfer's paradise, but for non-surfers, it lacks alternative activities and places of interest.

From start to finish the service was impeccable. Roshan was the perfect host and all the staff went out of their way to assist. The food was excellent and we only wished we could have stayed more than one night!

Food was succulent 10/10 the cookers here know how do really good Sri Lankan plates from the breakfast to the diner
Pool with the view on the lagoon (you can rent Kayak)
People who are working here are very friendly and they help you if you need anything
The place is very calm if you want a break in your trip
Little bit far from the city center (10min) but as long as you want to be in quiet place it's not a problem at all

One of our favourite places in a 4 week trip, a quick kayak ( they have plenty to borrow) to the nicest beach we’ve seen in Sri Lanka, empty apart from a few kite surfers
The lagoon is beautiful and the food at the hotel the best in our trip, every meal was absolutely stunning top restaurant quality
There’s a roof top bar to enjoy a cocktail and watch the sun set, the staff were incredible and welcoming
We don’t kite surf but still really enjoyed our stay , there are not a lot of rooms so felt very relaxed
The room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated

Both the hotel and the kitesurf centre are amazing. The hotel itself is beautiful and the hotel grounds, common areas, facilities and rooms are all well maintained and very clean. We stayed in a one bedroom chalet and loved having a private terrace with views over the lagoon. The pool is lovely and very clean and the dock was the perfect place to watch sunset. The food at the hotel was amazing - the chefs are excellent and created new menus each day with lots of variety, including vegetarian options. We ended up eating almost all our meals at the hotel because the food was so good.
The staff at the hotel, including the four front of house staff Telan, Manoj, Sudesh and Roshan, the cleaners, the chefs and kitchen staff and the groundsmen were all so friendly, helpful and kind and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. We felt so well looked after by everyone, which really added to how much we already loved the hotel. The manager, Hirantha, also went above and beyond and really helped us out during our stay.
We took kite surfing lessons at the hotel's kite surf centre. Matt and his team at the kite centre were brilliant. The centre is well organised with good equipment and the lessons were excellent. We really can't recommend both the hotel and the kite surf centre enough. And to top it all off, the hotel's dog is the loveliest dog I've ever met!
Nothing - it was perfect!

We loved the beautiful design, the tranquility, the pool and the food. They had kayaks we could use to cross the lagoon to the beach and the views from the resort were amazing. The food in the evening was excellent. Great service. All very good.
The resort is very isolated making it difficult and very expensive to get in and out from.

Poor
The location was good, beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Breakfast was very ordinary, couple of slices of fruit, then a choice of a watery undercooked omelette or granola. Granola was basically baby food with a few wisps of granola sprinkled over the top.
I wish there had been a bar where you could order cocktails and beer. There was no pool table, dart boards, TV or any kind of entertainment. The room was exceptionally dark, you could not read a book in there. Also, only one of the staff spoke English and this was very frustrating. Beware of this: the suite is promised with a private pool - there is no such thing, only one pool for everybody

The stuff is welcoming you and willing to assist in any issue, hotel is surrounding lagoons and gives a relaxing feeling , swimming pool is great and you can do kayak around for free . You need just a 5 minutes with the hotel boat to reach a good kitesurfing spot which gives you lagoon or ocean option (both are almost flat water ). Room is very nice and has a balcony with a beach view
Shower and toilet are designed with common roof with the room, it is looked very nice but as related to toilet might be inconvenient (noisy)

Location was tranquil and beautiful. The food was also AMAZING. Delicious and generous portions. Staff were super helpful and friendly. The building itself is also lovely and our room felt very luxurious.
The hotel is off a long dirt track so be prepared with a 4WD or a tuktuk driver who knows how to navigate the pot holes (esp after rain)

Very friendly and attentive staff at the hotel and the kite station, the food in the restaurant is very good, the pool is very beautiful and nice to hangout at. Comfortable rooms, everything is new and clean.Well done!
This is a very nice place in general. It's still new so there are still little things that can be improved. E.g. more comfortable areas to chill apart from the pool beds with beanbags, comfy couches or hammocks. The couch at the bungalow is not very comfortable for that. Maybe a small gym would be nice, since there is not much to do on low wind days.

Great location away from all busy tourist areas. Beautiful room, really modern furnished and clean, great bathroom. Best food on our trip, the cook offered many different vegan / vegetarian options and it tasted like a 5 star restaurant! We still dream about the dinners and breakfasts ?
Really remote and a bit hard to get there, just keep in mind

This hotel is a paradise! The hotel consists of small houses in the middle of a palm forest. We liked the simple but stylish houses with a view over the lagoon where we watched the sunset. The pool is beautiful, as a size and view. Availability of canoes for a tour around the lagoon. They have a great kitesurfing school attached. The gear is good and new and the teachers are great. The owner Matt has a good system with free technical sessions. If you really want to learn to be independent kiter this is the best school ( and we have tried a few before). The lagoon allows you to learn on flat water but if you are experienced and like waves the sea is just on the other side of the beach. The top food bar above the kite center is amazing! The best thing of the hotel and the kite school however are the people! They are friendly, professional and went above and beyond to make our stay special. And the highlight of our stay was the chef and his team! The best food we had in Sri Lanka! The biggest king prawns and sea bass we ever had and other seafood all from the afternoon catch of the fishermen every day for dinner. Excellently cooked with creativity, combining local and western herbs and styles. Thank you so much, we will be back!

This place is a little paradise. The remote location, in between salt mines and the lagoon, surrounded by hundreds of palm trees is absolutely amazing. The chalet rooms and their outdoor bathrooms are gorgeous and very clean. As we were visiting in the off-season, the hotel was far from full. But this turned out to be the best thing ever: we had the azure pool for ourselves and the highly attentive, professional and polite staff fulfilled all our wishes and even more than that. All food leaving the chef’s kitchen is of a very high quality and simply delicious - try the curry crusted seabass. Last but not least, they have a stunning little rooftop bar at their kitesurfing center with views on the salt mines, the lagoon and the sea at the same time where they serve good cocktails. I recommend this amazing place more than every other hotel we visited on our 3-week tour. Simply amazing.
