Very Good
Sunset Fort is in an excellent location. The rooms are clean and well appointed .
Breakfast is good and the staff are lovely and caring especially Gigee the cat ! Air con works well and the building is historically interesting.

The rooms felt much older than we expected, though the bathroom has been nicely renovated. We chose the sea-view room, but the view is really only available from the upper floor. For the same price, there are better-value options inside the fort.

Location was great and staff friendly.
The internet was slow and bad. The room was full of mould, and there was nasty musty odor in the bathroom with NO WINDOW.

The location of this property was very convenient. Our room had a nice sea view, and the staff were kind. However, the building is somewhat run down. Unfortunately, the bed sheets were not very clean, and I was bitten by ants throughout the night. Although the price is relatively reasonable, the hotel should make more effort to provide clean sheets and new towels, as the ones provided were torn.

The pipes pounded and banged really loud like someone hammering on metal whenever water was used. Also, there was a smell in the bathroom.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location inside the fort is absolutely perfect—right in the heart of everything, yet peaceful. The staff were excellent: incredibly courteous and proactive, going out of their way to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.

The room I received was completely different from the photos shown on Booking.com. The pictures advertised very modern, fancy, newly designed rooms, but the room I was given was old, dark, and very disappointing.
This kind of mismatch should not happen, as guests choose hotels based on the images provided. It feels misleading, and I believe Booking.com should address this issue with the property. I was not satisfied with my room at all.
Additionally, the room had no tea maker, unlike what was shown for other rooms. It had a very tiny table, so small that it was practically unusable. The room was also not soundproof; there was a large hole near the top of the wall, through which all outside noise came in — even conversations from far away were clearly heard inside the room. This made my stay very uncomfortable.
It was honestly a super depressing experience staying there. I would never stay at this property again.
The staff were also very unfriendly, which made the experience even worse.

Convenient area since it’s right smack in the middle of Galle Fort.
The photos are incredibly misleading: The toilet is dirty, old and it smelt really bad. There were no toiletries either. The room too was very musky and it was right beside the hotel’s main corridor which meant that it was constantly noisy with foot traffic.

The location is good if you are looking for a place within the Fort.Close to thw Railway station too
I have booked deluxe double room, the photos are missleading. The room itself is much smaller, old furniturre, there were ants coming from the holes between the walls and the floor. Window frames would need some repairs to make them seal properly. The place itself is a bit odd, felt a bit like a house of ghosts as there was barely anybody around

Excellent location inside the fort and that’s what we wanted most. Walked everywhere, great choice of restaurants just minutes away. A little expensive for some pretty average accomodation but great location. No soap, shampoo etc in rooms but provided when you requested it. Could use a few homey touches in lobby and rooms.

Excellent location. Huge colonial style structure. But understaffed. Only 3 people serving there. From preparing and serving breakfast to toilet cleaning all are done by them. Room amenities are very poor. Gave us half used shower gel and shampoo. Towels are hard as leather. Toilet cistern leaking, complaint went into vein. The staff are working relentlessly, but can’t cover. When asked for room cleaning, he politely replied that it is done once in three days. The breakfast is very basic, not adequate. Owner/management should look into these problems. Otherwise it is a promising property.
