Absolute 5-star experience at Amara Villas! Manager Duminda is a standout host - so welcoming and took care of everything we needed with a smile. The whole staff was fantastic, always going the extra mile to make our stay special. The food was incredible - we ended up eating at the hotel more than we planned because everything was so delicious! Our kids practically lived in the pool, and the beach is just a quick walk away. Such a perfect spot for families. Spacious, clean rooms and the most helpful team you could ask for. Big thanks to Duminda and crew for making our stay unforgettable!

What should I start with. When we entered the villa we were so amazed at the quality of the place.
Every little detail is thought of, the room was big and the cleanest we saw on the island.
We truly felt we can relax our bodies and minds (highly recommend booking a massage in the garden, truly a zen experience).
The owners really care for the villa and the garden, making sure everything works like a charm. I can’t not mention hotel manager Duminda’s professionalism. He took care of every little ask we had. He even helped organise our airport transfer after our check out date. The rest of the staff was also amazing at their jobs.
Hoping to come back!

Wonderful
The staff and food were exceptional. The entire visit they ensured I was well taken care of.
A lot of mosquitoes in the evenings made it a little difficult to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view.

This is a beautiful property- so many flowers and well cared for plants in the lovely peaceful garden. The house is well appointed with spacious rooms. A quiet retreat in a small village away from tourists and crowds. Duminda and his team made us so comfortable and happy. Delicious Sri Lankan breakfast as well! A short walk from a small beach, and plenty of nice restaurants within walking/tuktuk distance. It’s a bit of a distance from Galle so ideal if you had a car or you can easily take the local bus.
So many mosquitoes- clouds of them in the evening and morning. Lots of standing water around with numerous mosquito larva, this could be monitored. Perhaps the veranda or the rooms could have screens.

This place is a true gem. We can not recommend it highly enough. We can honestly say that we had the best time staying at Amara Villa.
From the communication with staff before we arrived, to the whole experience of being in this stunning place, we genuinely have nothing negative to say.
We were so well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble. Whilst we were there, we were fortunate enough to meet the owners of the property, and it made our holiday even more wonderful. They are a gorgeous couple, who made us feel so relaxed and cared for.
We will absolutely go back...
The room was spotless and decorated to a very high standard. The villa was of a fantastic design and we couldn't quite believe the standard of craftsmanship.
The bed was super comfy, and the water was always warm.
This is a place to relax, unwind, enjoy the coast, explore...please visit, but treat it well...gems like this are rare.
There was nothing we didn't like. It way exceeded our expectations.

Very Poor
The Amara villa is located in the middle of a poor Sri Lankan village, you could go for a stroll with some stray dogs, there are wild monkeys on trees. There are some beaches in walking distance.
I was travelling with my adult son, we booked the property after seeing amazing photos online, however we never got to stay at Amara villa. We were put into a small property called Amara house which was situated outside the main premises. Amara villa has a high brick wall all around it and huge wooden gates which are locked. Within the house, the manager asked us to choose 1 bedroom and promptly locked the other one. It didn't make sense, as we had booked a property with 2 large double bedrooms. The next morning, there was no WI FI connection, no TV or radio, not even basic tea/ coffee powder. After a stroll in the village I went to see the manager at Amara villa as I was confused by the set up and what we were paying 4 times the amount we paid at other properties for. He was not helpful. On a second occasion, an hour later, I met the owner Sam and told him how unhappy I was. They offered me breakfast and told me that I should pay Rs 44,055 Sri Lankan rupees and leave the premises or else they would call the police !! I had booked stay for 2 days and didn't have any other bookings. Within 10 minutes, the manager turned up with three police men at my front door. The police officer understood when I showed him my booking at Amara villa as opposed to where I was staying. I agreed to pay half the amount and leave. Sam the owner, his wife the manager warned me not to write a bad review since they had reduced the price ( it was still double what I paid elsewhere). I was happy to get out of this place, took the first taxi to leave. Sam, if you treat your guests like this, they will stop coming. I suggest you take some tips on hospitality from your own countrymen as they welcomed us with open arms wherever we went. I think the world deserves to know how you twist peoples arms and intimidate them if you don't get what you want.

The staff. Duminda is a gem.
The stay, the pool, the breakfast. Loved it all.
It’s old school and not automated. So enjoy that Charm. Also it’s in the middle of nature, a little cut out, but it’s beautiful.

A stunning villa with stunning gardens and only a 5 minute drive from the centre of Ahangama and all the restaurants there.
The bedrooms are beautifully furnished and the staff are wonderfully discreet and yet available when needed. Duminda in particular is very professional and experienced in how to give good customer service. Amara villa is like a home away from home and we will be back again many times in the future I hope.
Not really a major problem but bath towels are a little small!
