Quirky accommodation literally in the Back of Beyond - in the middle of nowhere! There was initially some confusion as we were dropped at another accommodation with the same name but was quickly sorted. Just make sure youre aware which Back of Beyond you have booked - they look very similar! We loved our stay - the beds were comfy and we were given extra fans because of the hot humid nights. Our 3 boys loved the freedom of running around and fishing in the stream. The meals were absolutely delicious and the staff lovely too. We were really sad to leave! Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

It is beautiful located in the woods. No distraction. The family treehouse is as shown on the pictures. Really nice. If you like it quiet then it is perfect. Would come again.
Back of Beyond offers a lot of interesting tours or walks. Compared to other tours we experienced the offers are over-priced.

The location is amazing - it is quiet and great for seeing wildlife in its natural habitat. We saw an array of birds, monkeys, lizards, termites, insects, bats and frogs. You are surrounded by nature and the team at Wild Haven were really helpful and friendly. There is a beautiful river and a lily pond lake - all great places to relax and listen to the sounds of nature.
The food was very good and always freshly cooked. The team worked around my sons egg and nut allergy.
There is no wifi so the credit card machine was not working and we had to pay in cash (which required a trip to Dambulla).
The remoteness of the location is a bonus, but there needs to be more information about how to arrive (they have a jeep on site or you can try a tuk-tuk).
Our cottage was nicely hidden but quiet dark for most of the day. It would have been nice to have seating at the front of our house - we spent a lot of time in the communal area instead.
The cottage we stayed in needs a bit of attention overall. We had holes in our mosquito net and some of the sheets etc. could do with being replaced.

We had an amazing stay at Wild haven. My friend actually liked it so much that he actually extended his time by 3 nights as well. The staff is super friendly and very helpful and attentive. My friend who is from Switzerland actually loved the kitchen the most. He enjoyed watching authentic food being made and sometimes was a part of the process as well. If you are looking for the truly Lankan authentic experience this is the place to be. We loved the tree house that we stayed as well. Everything was so neat and the nature walks and excursions were a nice touch to the experience. The nature walk actually opened our eyes a lot as well to the flora and fauna we see and hear everyday. All in all it was a wonderful experience

A beautiful gem hidden in the bush. Surrounded by nature, lot of beautiful birds around, and a perfect place to disconnect and enjoy the moment. The staff were very friendly, and didnt complain when asked to bring morning teas to our huts.

The entire stay was great! The manager started communicating with us on Whatsapp since before our arrival, fetched us in town & made various arrangements to help us get some cold beers and other things from town. The food was probably the best we had all trip - made on site and with so much pride. It's not fancy or glamorous but the service was epic, we had good sleeping arrangements with mosquito nets and everyone went out of their way to make the stay enjoyable!
The road to the property isn't the best, but there was nothing negative we could point to!

A true Haven for deep connection with Nature and all the Elements. A space for meditation and immersion into the astonishing beauty of the sacred land.
The caretakers of the space are warm hearted and amazing Chefs. Every meal was a nourishment for the body and joy for all the senses, thank you Chef Kumara and Chef Niha.

Truly wild in the midst of nature. It is a very offbeat location to stay at and the tree houses are to die for, they are spacious with all the modern amenities. They have a small stream right next to the restaurant which is a highlight of the place. My wife and I enjoyed the morning lazing around in the water and the coffee was served to us there. Very warm host and the chef made incredible srilankan food. The location is secluded and leading through mud roads, so be careful while driving there. There is absolutely no network there and the wifi didn't work either, so if you're seeking to disconnect completely, this is the place for you.

The tree house is fantastic and you are fully immersed in the nature.
Quite far from everywhere and relatively challenging to reach which makes it a bit more difficult to visit the surroundings.

Lovely tree hut in the midst of the jungle, far from other tourists, with animal sounds (played hide & seek with an elephant on evening as well) and the closest you can come nature aside from putting up a tent in the midst of the jungle. The staff was amazing and made our stay much better than we had expected. Great food! We would love to come back some other time.

It was truly a unique and memorable experience! The three house was large and very comfortable and the location out in the jungle fantastic! There was so many animals and a little river to swim in. On New Years Eve they arranged a barbecue under the stars for us and another couple staying. A fantastic experience that I think our children will remember through out their lives. The road out here is long a bumpy but it is definitely worth it! Good food and very friendly staff as well!

Through luck of fate I got to stay at both of the Back of Beyond locations in Sigiriya.
The first, Dehigaha ela, is further out of town located in a lush clearing - a real jungle experience. Super remote and wild. Great for hikes along the edge of the nature reserve nearby, and a small waterfall to soak your feet in at the end of the day- including a school of fish that give you a little pedicure! Amazing food. Close to nature - chipmunk-like cuties, a tiny snake in my tree hut - totally harmless - and monkeys in the trees around the site!
The second site- Pidurangala- I stayed at on my second night because I wanted to be a bit closer to the village. The tree huts and cottages in this location are nestled right in and under the jungle canopy, so its shady and cool. I booked an evening bird watching tour with Ashan - the in-house naturalist- and it was wonderful. Over 20 species of birds spotted including eagles, kites, storks and hornbills! I also saw lots of beautiful small birds, monkeys, bats, land monitor lizards and bugs in the lodge grounds. Theres even a small chance that elephants with sneak through this lodge site in the evening as they move to feed - I saw camera trap footage!
Food was amazing, service impeccable. Highlight of my trip so far.

We stayed 2 nights in one of the family tree house during rain season. Its a perfect experience for everyone who loves an authentic, unfiltered and remote jungle experience. You will fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the forest and since its a totally open space, be prepared to enjoy lots of the local wildlife.
The service was amazing: overall very friendly and helpful. The chef cooked delicious food for us, the leak in our roof was repaired (however our luggage and beds got wet in the first place), free shuttle service provided to Sigiriya due to the road condition (20-25 min one way).
A bit pricey for the quality (eg all Moskitonets had holes, drawers with no handles) and I would not return during rain season. Watch out: The stairs to the treehouse were slippery when wet.

Back of Beyond - Dehigaha Ela is a lovely hidden place in the middle of the jungle. The surrounding area is beautiful, the hotel well-groomed. You can perfectly relax in a laid-back atmosphere. The people working there were all very pleasant and caring. You feel very welcome in this place. They also offer a series of excursions which helps you to diversify your stay and learn about Sri Lankan nature, culture and everyday life. The food was great. Both, breakfast and dinner was extensive and very well tasting. Unfortunately we needed to leave one day earlier as planned after my wife had an accident climbing down from a rock. The manager was very generous and gave us 50% reduction for the last night that we had to cancel at short notice.
Nothing. We liked everything! We did not valuate the maximum in terms of comfort, as the interior is quite basic. Nevertheless I think you cannot expect a 4 or 5 start hotel, if you want to sleep in a tree house in the middle of the jungle.
