This is without doubt the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The bed was so comfy and the manager upgraded us free of charge to a superb suite which was immaculate. Everything was high quality even the complimentary shampoo and conditioner was wonderful!
The staff were so attentive but discreet and little touches like homemade popsicles were on offer at the beachfront when we finished our 2 hour walk along the beach.
All the food was utterly delicious and the settling after dark was almost more beautiful than by day that we had to pinch ourselves that it was real!!
It was my birthday during our stay and they made a delicious birthday cake free of charge which was such a lovely touch.
We loved the settling and although you have to cross over the railway line and walk through immaculate mangroves to get to the beach it was rather pleasant to do so and hearing the train go past occasionally was not unpleasant nor was the call to prayer from the temple nearby. Neither woke us up during our sleep.
Even when we were leaving and I had left a charger in the room they were right there ensuring I had it before driving off.
We will definitely return to this little bit of heaven and thank Anjana the manager so much for giving me a birthday I will never forget.

I recall reading a review from someone else which said that the place was better than the pictures - totally agree!
This is a truly boutique hotel, small, exclusive, set without beautiful surroundings. Pristine, not single leaf out of place. We stayed in the villa with a private pool and the accommodation itself was fab. There is some really high quality decor throughout and its truly impressive. We were blown away with both the size and beauty of our private pool - definitely worth the extra money.
Add to the above extremely attentive and friendly service. Great drinks, GREAT food and I can only thoroughly recommend and say 10/10. Wed love to come back!

Diwan, one of the managers seeks the contact to every guest at all times and the property is in a quiet spot of Bentota beach. It's a very lovely location and the staff are very friendly
Room had a moldy smell. Staff put an incense burner in a corner, but that won't solve the problem. Probably the ceiling fan should be on at all times to move the air a bit.
During the day you must go ask to turn on the AC if you need to cool down.
Rooms are dark although completely white inside. They are clustered together behind a large suite which faces the lovely garden. Rooms have a couple of comfy chairs outside to sit on, but that outside is a hallway between the suite and the rooms, so you don't really feel like sitting there.
No doubt the place looks pretty, but the planning is not always practical.
A sore point is the pool service. The pool is situated right next to the restaurant, where 3 ( friendly) staff hang around most of the time doing nothing. None of that staff feel responsible for the pool, it seems. We swam shortly after 8am. There were no towels anywhere. Staff watched us from behind the bar but never once thought of bringing us towels. We had to go up to the bar and ask for them! During the day, when someone leaves their wet towel after swimming, no one ever collects or replaces it. I guess someone comes at night and collects the old towels all at once. There were only 3 rooms with guests. It was hardly too much work....to ask for.
Here too, as in another property we stayed in, your breakfast does not include cafe latte or cappuccino or any coffee from the machine, only plunger coffee. You get charged for every cup.... We only had a plate of fruit (could have had American or Sri Lankan b'fast as well) and still the cappucino or latte would have been charged extra....In today's luxury properties around the world it is standard to be offered cappuccino or latte.... Rock Villa is not a hostel

Booking should remove the Taru Villas-rock villa from the list. 1. Hygiene problem. The room is full of mosquitos, flies and spiders. 10 parts of my body got bit at the first-night stay. If you dont want to bring diseases back home, you should stay somewhere else. 2. Horrible management. Janitors left the stinky cloth in the bathroom bench after clearing. Room cleaners did not place robes in the room, but the manager questioned us took robes( what???). So be aware of your own properties and their properties. You may get charged by their mistakes. 3. Noise. It is less than 10m from the railway. You can barely sleep at night. Because trains passed by from time to time, then came with the super noisy AC. 4. Horrible experience. We spent $666 to relax and enjoy our vacation. But the experience ruined our vacation. You can get much better service next door. Probably only 1/5 of the price. We met wonderful and super friendly people in Sri Lanka, but not at Taru Villas- Rock Villa.

Wonderful
Rock Villa is a huddle of traditional Sri Lankan buildings set in beautifully manicured grounds. The staff are top notch - professional but warm, attentive yet not overbearing. Its stylishly done out and strikes that rare balance of feeling a bit exclusive while also effortlessly unstuffy. A minutes walk down the palm-studded lawn, over the railway line and through pristinely kept mangroves brings you to the beach, where private loungers are waiting together with towels and cool drinking water. (Theyll even serve you a fire-lit dinner here if you want.) Perhaps the best thing is the food. Whether you want the comforting simplicity of homemade pasta, an epic Sri Lankan feast, elegant three-course menus, or a la carte treats like steak or lobster, theyve got it covered and execute it all brilliantly. The seafood is particularly good, and the waiting staff are superb. Decent, fairly-priced wine (the NZ Pinot Gris doesnt disappoint) and deftly mixed cocktails complete the picture. It transcends the otherwise relatively uninspiring surrounds.

Wonderful
This is the most amazing boutique hotel. The property is stunning set in lush green gardens only 2 minutes from the beach. Wonderful a la carte menu for both breakfast, lunch and dinner and the staff are great as well.
Some rooms can be a little dark.
